Far superior to the microfiber cloth gel rests...I've used the cloth gel rests in the past, but the last 2 sets I ordered both started leaking where the cloth was supposed to be sealed to the base. The last cloth set started leaking even before the first year was over. Not knowing how this "leatherette" cover was going to feel after the smooth microfiber cloth, I was reluctant to try it, but could not justify spending any more money on the failing cloth. I am very glad I did, as I find these have a very cool-to-the-touch feeling that is soothing to my skin. No signs of leakage or deformity after 3 months, and I am very happy with the purchase, so much so that I won't go back to the cloth type even if these do eventually fail. (By the way, the cloth cover types ***must*** also have an anti-bacterial treatment from the factory, as otherwise they would give me a case of contact dermatitis on my wrists and forearms, but the "leatherette" cover has no such issue.) 5Soft but not as sturdy as I had thoughtI have never had a wrist pad that felt so svelte and soft yet sturdy enough to take around with me back and forth from home to the office. I also play quite a lot of computer games, I know most people go for popular gaming oriented pads but my mouse pad and wrist rest are both 3M and I will always wholeheartedly back their office products for people who suffer from carpel tunnel. I also recommend the MW85B mouse pad, have had it over 2 years and it's still mostly exactly how I got it, hardly any deformation or damage after 8+ hours of near daily use.*UPDATE*A couple months and already there is some issues with the gel weakening in often used places. I have one small spot that has gone completely uncovered, right under my left wrist. Buy something more sturdy if you want it to last. Still highly recommend the MW85B. 2NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS...I purchased this back in May 2013 and it lasted over 5 years. Just this past week the leatherette top developed a tiny rip where the white goopy gel started to leak. I was happy I had to have it last for 5 years. So, I had no reservation about buying another expecting I could look forward to another 5 or so years of good use. WRONG! This new one is atrocious! My wrists from resting on it leave an indentation that does NOT bounce back. Material just lays there all matted down whereas my prior one did not. This one felt flimsier right out of the box, and I could feel by it's texture that the gel it contained was of a different consistency that the previous one. I can see already that this is not going to hold up. Shame on you 3M for sacrificing quality in what now is an inferior product of what was once a superior product. You lost a customer. One other thought comes to mind, that the original was too good, so you decided it was more profitable to make crap in the hopes that people would more frequently have to repurchase. 1Not like it used to be.I actually bought one of these (exact models) over 4 years ago, and it was great. Solid, great support, and durable. As a matter of fact I still have it today. I ordered another one recently and it was completely different. The gel material they use inside the wrist rest is completely different. The new one is much softer, and warps easily. I had my elbow on it for a few minutes and it indented, and never straightened back out (so now there's a giant dent in the middle of my wrist rest). The edges are no longer have a smooth/rounded bevel, but a sharp, pronounced one that arrives littered with indentations. I am sorely disappointed. 1Lasted a whole monthLasted one month before exploding on my desk just one week after the return date cutoff. It was already not that comfortable because it isn't very deep or thick but I expected it to last longer, obviously. 1It split open within days. Sticky goo everywhere. This thing split open on one end within days of purchase. Over time, the other end has split as well. This is just from the weight of my arms and putting an elbow on the desk, nothing unreasonable. The big problem is when it splits open, it just keeps expelling the goo inside, which is very sticky and messy and a general pain. I'm going shopping for something more durable, I really expected better from one of the best adhesive companies in the country. This was a big let down. I only gave it two stars because it's comfortable and the right size to cover my reach using a mouse, keyboard and a drawing tablet. Take a look through the review pictures and you'll see I'm far from the only one to have this experience. 2Amazing Product... with One Little FlawI've had this wrist rest for 3 1/2 years. and it still looks virtually new. That's pretty stellar in this day and age.It is very comfortable and definitely prevents fatigue in my wrist. I'm at the computer for most of each day. The bottom material is a sturdy but pliable compound of rubber that resists sliding on my smooth desk surface - wherever the bottom surface touches the desk. So far so good...There is a source of irritation with this product though...unfortunately both ends want to curl upward at least 1/8 of an inch, as if the rubber bottom has a memory. So instead of remaining solidly planted along the entire bottom surface, the ends don't have as much friction, and they slide back and forth with wrist movement. Because the center remains planted, it's forever teetering/pivoting about the center. Since on my desk this rest is placed close to the edge, I'm fiddling with it often. If I don't, it ends up "walking" itself right off of the edge. I can gently bend it back the opposite way, and it will remain flat and supremely solid for a little while. During that short period of time I can't imagine a more well-designed product. But then reality hits again. If the manufacturer would/could fix this. I would grant it 5 1/2 stars....[UPDATE]I asked the question if this curling behavior is normal, and the manufacturer asked me to contact them about it. When I called, the representative assured me that it is NOT normal, and is mailing me a replacement. So now I can add excellent customer service to my review! When I get the replacement, I'll adjust the number of stars & the Tagline... 4Perspective of a PC gamer: A solid cheap option, and great for portable use.The number of PC gamers who like to use a wrist rest (usually in combo with a non-palm grip) is small but not insignificant. There are many bad wrist rests out there; they are too squishy, too firm, too tall, or have a shape that interferes with mousepads or just plain using the thing while gaming. Even if a wrist rest doesn't have those problems, they could have a build or be made of materials that degrade over time. I'm sure many people reading this have enjoyed the common belkin gel wrist rest only to have it become disgusting at the pressure point and/or split and release gel. This pad might leak gel after a long time, it's not stitched and few wrist rests are, but otherwise it avoids all the problems I mentioned earlier. The size and shape are perfect for anyone not specifically wanting something closer to a square (get the "Glorious Gaming Mouse Wrist Pad" for that). It's not too narrow on the horizontal (x axis), so that your wrist will never fall off doing larger side to side movements, but it's also not too long (y axis), meaning it will fit on smaller tables and surfaces; both great qualities for mobile use. The front edge is straight, meaning it will align with 99% of mouse pads. The back edge is slightly curved outwards, this not only means a little extra space where it matters for extra support, but it also helps you place the pad on the edge of a table without it falling off, getting the wrest closer to your arm while saving desk space at the same time. Now for the gel: it's not too stiff, and not too supple; your wrist doesn't sink into it like memory foam (which limits movement and can make pressure points worse), but you will also feel a noticeable give, it doesn't feel like you wrist is resting on a wood block. There is no center concavity like some rests have, this is up to preference but personally I think an indent like that hampers side movement during gaming and it's more suited to desktop tasks. Materials: the "leatherette" surface is a great change coming from cloth which is what most rests use. Cloth picks up filth from your skin fast, and can degrade and get stiff/stained quickly as a result. many other pads use soft plastic/silicone as a surface material, which doesn't degrade like cloth but also sticks to your skin which is not only uncomfortable but bad for movement. The leatherette surface doesn't stick and feels cool and smooth on the skin, but not being made of fabric it also repels filth better. Hopefully it holds up over time. The height is also great. It's about the same as the glorious gaming pad: not so tall that it hurts more than helps, like some inch-tall rests, but not so small that it feels like you have no rest, you get the right elevation so your hand will align with the top of any mouse that isn't unusually high. So overall it's a great pad for home use, but let's talk about it's portable advantages to finish. As a portable, this is a great pairing for a thin, roll-able cloth pad like the SteelSeries QcK Mini. You simply roll the mouse pad around the wrist rest's solid, semi-flexible edge, and you end up with a mini burrito of mouse pad and wrist rest that can fit in a small space, either in a backpack or small carrying case. You generally cannot do this with a mouse pad + wrist rest combo unit, those you have to lay flat even in a bag, and the mouse pad itself on those models tends to be too small and the wrist rest not wide enough for gaming. If you use a gaming laptop, this will go a long way to giving you desktop comfort on the go, and is way better than just using a wireless mouse on a table with no wrist rest. All that said, if you want a wrist rest that is ONLY for home use, and if you want something about twice as wide (supporting more of you wrist and lower arm), and if you want a more foam cushioning that has the same amount of pliability, you may want to get the glorious gaming mouse pad, which is the one I use at home and ties with this for my favorite wrist rest. It is more expensive, and cloth so you have to keep it clean, but it is stitched and I think will last longer, and it has the bigger shape, which I think is more suitable for big desks and big pads that many PC gamers use these days. 5Would be great if it lasted longerThis extra long wrist rest is a great idea. I love how it works for both my keyboard (including 10 key) and mouse. It's comfortable (was) and stays in place. The only problem, and it's a deal breaker problem, is that it is not durable. Within a few months the top material began to show microtears. Those microtears grew longer and larger until I could no longer use the mouse as intended. I couldn't find another wrist rest this long so out of desperation I covered the top with wide black gorilla tape and h ave been using it like that for about 6 months now. It's not nearly as comfortable as it used to be, but it still works well enough to get by. If you don't mind figuring out how to get past the short life of the cover then go for it. Otherwise look elsewhere. 1It's a good rest.It performs its function fairly well. So over-all I have to say it's a good product. Yet, rarely do I come across a completely perfect product, and this one is not an exception. There are just two minor things which I would prefer changed. One is that I would prefer it to be slightly softer. Don't get me wrong, it's still soft and pretty comfortable. I'm sure you could find plenty of people who think it is too soft, and yet others who think it is more firm than it needs to be, and probably some who think it's just right. Hmm, writing this is starting to bring back childhood memories of a girl with golden hair and some bears. Anyway, the second thing I think would be better is if the rest material had a satin type fabric cover on it. Sometimes when lifting up my wrist, the rest will start to come along with it due to it sticking to my skin. It usually only happens when playing a FPS game and my wrist is hot. This would also be a problem with any rest that has a completely smooth plastic type cover. I've used those in the past and they stick even more. The downside to fabric though is that it can be harder to keep clean. This cleans up super easy. 4
