Excellent value and quality, some improvements could be madeI've had this rice cooker for a few months, so I thought it was time to leave a review. I am someone who uses the rice cooker almost daily, and it is still working really well. I have used the steam tray a few times while cooking rice, but I have not used the slow cooker feature yet. All pictures were taken after 2 months of use.Things I love:- Cooking white rice takes about 30-45 minutes. There will be a countdown timer when there are 10 minutes left.- The delay timer is convenient and prevents me from forgetting to cook the rice. *Note that setting the delay timer means it will be ready at the end of that time (for example, setting a delay timer at 4pm for 2 hours means the rice will finish cooking at 6pm. No extra math needed!).- It will tell you how long you've kept the rice on the "keep warm" function (in hours).- It's easy to clean. The lid can be wiped down, and the steam cap can be removed. There is also a removable tray to catch the condensation after you open the lid.- As long as you don't use any metal instruments, the pot doesn't scratch.Things I think could be improved:- If you leave the rice on "keep warm", the bottom of the rice gets brown after 45 minutes to an hour. It's not a huge issue for me, but I know people like to keep their rice warm for long periods of time.- After cooking rice, when you open the lid, the amount of condensation floods the area around the pot and actually flows outside of the rice cooker. I also feel like the water doesn't drain fast enough into the removable tray. I sometimes have to tilt the rice cooker back for it to drain quicker.- A lot of water collects in the rubber flap on the lid, so you either have to wipe it down after use, or leave the lid open for it to dry after cooking.Things I don't like:- The steam tray is made of really flimsy plastic. It works well and is easy to use (you can steam while cooking rice), but after I steamed carrots, the tray was dyed orange. After some thorough washing, there was still a yellow tinge left on the white plastic. Conclusion:Ideally, I'd give this rice cooker 4.5 stars. I highly recommend this rice cooker. It's such a great value for the price. I don't think you need to pay an exorbitant amount of money to get a good quality rice cooker. I am someone who only cooks white rice, and from time to time, steams vegetables. Hopefully this rice cooker will last a long time. I will be back to edit if anything changes. 5Makes decent rice--just eat it right away! This rice cooker makes adequate rice if you follow the instructions. However, it does not keep rice well because of 2 reasons: 1: condensation builds up on the interior lid I the cooker and drips down into the rice--creating some disgusting spots of mushy rice paste; and 2: because the condensation is collecting on the lid, the interior does not develop the steamy environment necessary to keep the rice from going rock hard in places. If you eat all the rice in one sitting, then you should be fine. Don't plan on saving any,as the rice gets ruined in about an hour. I've never had this issue with more expensive cookers, so it proves that you get what you pay for! 3Use & Clean Up a Breeze-Excellent Rice Everytime! Multiple Uses! Was skeptical at first but truly pleased with my purchase. Stopped cooking rice after years of it sticking to the pan or coming out over done or undercooked. Healthier eating brought on less bulky pastas and wanted to try to incorporate more rice into our meals. Also, since this appliance is not only a rice cooker but also acts as a crock pot and veggie steamer as well...it's easy on the pocketbook as well as the counter space. Reviews were kinda half and half with many saying that they either couldn't figure it out (hard to follow directions) or the rice was not coming out well when they used it. After using this for two-three months now, I'd have to say that either those people are either not understanding the directions (which are very easy in my opinion to follow) or it's simply operator error. I LOVE my rice cooker. I can set it and leave it (unlike the pan on the stove) and it's come out perfect every time!Extras:1. The wide spoon that is included for the rice is wonderful and stores inside the cooker when not in use.2. The cup included has measurements on the side, stores inside cooker while not in use.3. The inside metal bowl of the cooker is easy to clean (literally a damp cloth will do ya-nothing sticks, burns etc!), removes for easy cleaning without worries of water damage to unit AND has measurements on inside of bowl so you know you're getting the right amount of water and rice evertime! Takes the guess work out.4. Manual is very easy to read. Separated into sections "Cooking Rice", "Steaming veggies while cooking rice" etc etc. Has a handy insert that is removable with "Quick cooking tips" for amounts to use and hangs on my fridge for quick referencing.5. Steamer tray is removable, stores in unit when not in use and gives ample space. I can usually fit two 10-12oz frozen veggie bags in it with a bit of room to spare. This tray does seem to take on some of the color of the more colored veggies (such as carrots with an orangish tint) but otherwise not a huge deal. Easy clean up.Only Downside that I can think of:The cord for this unit is somewhat shorter than my usual appliances. However, this also means that I can bring it up through the handle once, and have it dangle while not in use-rather than have a wad of cord flopping around the cabinet too. So, take that as you will.I added photos for better viewing-since seller does not post for much to see. This was one of my biggest issues when comparing these to other brands/models. I wanted to see inside and how it all comes together or comes apart. So, I'm hoping this helps someone out. Coffee can in photos is a large coffee can from Sams club-for size comparison. One thing to note, the lid on this unit does NOT come off completely. It is attached by a hinge on one side. Grab onto handle, push in large button with thumb to release door and it opens easily (light weight lid also). Lid does stay open without dropping down hard when ready to serve rice OR metal bowl can be removed during serving.Bottom Line: WORTH THE MONEY! Great price, excellent rice-every time! Takes the hassle out of multiple pans, can be used for full meal dishes (crock pot type use) & veggie or food steamer tray. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. 5Why so many dumb reviews on this awesome product?I'm not one for writing reviews but after almost being dissuaded from purchasing this product by reading a slew of dumb reviews (like who decides to bake a potato in a rice cooker or who is confused at reading the simple instructions?) I decided to write one in the hopes that you will find this and this will help you make a decision whether to purchase or to not.I'm a simple guy who is terrible at cooking rice and has to feed a family of 6 regularly (not including the occasional guest that pops in unexpectedly). This rice cooker is awesome and I question why I waited so long to buy one. Sure, you could get a better one by dropping a couple hundred bucks on a fancy model but for what this does, it does it well. It takes about 35 minutes to cook rice for that many people. Yes, you can cook it faster by doing it the old fashioned way, but I find it very convenient to put the rice on first and just forget about it while I'm cooking the rest of the food. It makes juggling the stove much easier and frees up a burner slot so I could cook something else instead of micro-managing rice. The cup provided with the rice cooker is 3/4 the size of a regular cup of rice but even still one cup per person is more than enough.Put your rice in in and then fill the conveniently marked bowel with water up to the number of cups you used. For example, place 6 cups of rice and then fill with water up to the "6" marked line on the inside of the bowel. Easy-peasy. You DO have to rinse your rice off before you start the cooker to get rid of extra starch but this process only takes a minute or less and you don't need special tools or anything. I just put in the rice, add a bit of water, swirl it around, carefully drain the water out (the water will turn milky white), and literally rinse and repeat until the water is more or less clear upon draining. The rice comes out fluffy and great with nothing burned on the bottom of the pot.I've also cooked other things in the rice cooker as well like a beef stew and chili. Each time I cut up the meat, tossed it in, chopped up veggies, added water and spices, closed the lid and hit the "slow cooker" option. It says it will take 7 hours but a pot roast (cut into 3-5 inch cubes) only took about 4 hours to cook and the meat was just falling apart. SO GOOOOD!The instructions are simple and whenever you use this rice cooker please use the cup provided for easy measuring. Other than that it was worked great, cleans super easy, easy to operate, and does what it's supposed to do. You won't be disappointed. Hope this review helps! Also, feel free to ask me some questions if you have any. I'm no scientist but I might be able to help as well. 5Melted after using on the first day and no refund! It s got a plastic base and is not heat resistant. Melted after using for one day. I cooked rice and kept it on warm for several hours on my tile counter not next to anything and the cooker began to fall apart, the console separated and the whole thing got lopsided. I have never seen this with any rice cooker in my life, and I have used rice cookers since childhood. Very poor quality and no refund was allowed! 1Never burn againI use this daily not for rice, I have a deficsted Aroma Rice Cooker. I am an older cook I began to forget food on stove, which is not unusual as we age. This allows nutritious cooking and I never have to worry when I leave did I turn off stove it goes to warm after cooking. Food always ready. Also for the young busy cook. I have sent this cooker to three young relatives they love it. 5Don't buy, spews all over - See picture before you buyVery disappointed, writing this review after using this for 3 months, tried different quantity of rice and water, all as recommended, even with reduced quantity. Always spews liquid while cooking, see attached pictures. Really makes a mess out of the place and cleaning the cooker post this is also an issue, since all parts are not easily washable.Wanted to return now I can't since its outside the return window, really disappointed, Pls look elsewhere for better product. 1Love this rice cookerLove this rice cooker. Not sure what took us so long to get one but we are very happy so far with this one. Cooks white and brown rice perfectly and when I make a 2+ cup batch I can sprinkle fresh green onions, etc. on top and they don't drop to the bottom, burn, or stick. We had a little bit of trouble experimenting with saffron sticking to bottom, however, this is no fault of the design or function. You are only supposed to put rice and water in the cooker. It was hard going over all the reviews and features of rice cookers because like vacuum cleaners there seem to be a lot of fake reviews out there. Sticking with the verified purchases we choose this mid range priced one. We have not tried the slow cooker as we have several crock-pots already. We did use the steam function with good success. All in all a wonderful product and purchase. 5My new best friend in the kitchenI've only had this a few weeks, but it's my new favorite appliance. I've used it almost every other day since I got it. We eat a lot of rice in my home. Chinese, Thai, Mexican: if rice can be involved, it will be. I usually buy bulk jasmine and use it for everything. No matter how hard I tried to be careful with it, sometimes it would end up dry, while other times I'd have excess water. With this cooker, it comes out perfectly every time. Fluffy, sticky and restaurant quality AND I don't have to babysit it the way I did when I was making it on the stove. Also, I was used to having to scrub stuck-on rice out of my pot before, but not a single grain sticks in this thing. My only regret is not buying it years ago! 5My family has used a Tatung rice cooker for the ...My family has used a Tatung rice cooker for the last 40 years. We are Chinese and cook rice every day. When my old tatung died after 20 years of daily use, I just assumed that I would get another one. My wife, on the other hand, wanted something that was 'prettier'. After doing extensive online reading, this unit seemed to be okay for the price. Well, it has been a stalwart in my household so far. Once it had a small burn of rice on the very bottom, but I think that was more because we didn't add enough water. We haven't used any of the other functions, but it cooks rice perfectly.I'm still not sure I am used to cooking rice without putting water into the base of the unit, but this Aroma rice cooker does it perfectly. 5
