Customer Reviews

No more! This is the 3rd Bissell steam mop I have bought and every one of them has broken down or fallen apart before the warranty expires. I ordered this mop on April 1 and its now falling apart on June 23. Dealing with the Customer Service Dept, which is in the Philippines I believe, Is always tiresome. I just ordered another steam mop from a company I have never heard of mainly as I can't bear the thought of having to deal with Bissell's customer service again. 1Average CleanerI bought this steam mop in January 2016. I chose the Bissell after having went through 3 Shark mops in a 5 year period.Pros: The Bissell has experienced no degradation in function from the day I purchased it 2 years ago, I like the fact that it stands up on its own without having to lean it against something else (with the Shark it inevitably slid and crashed to the ground). It heats up quickly, cools down quickly and the water tank is easy to remove and refill. My downstairs has approximately 1,000 sq ft of hard floors (laminate). One tank can do my whole downstairs. It gets the grooves in the floors very well. The pads get stubborn dirt and grime well with a little elbow grease. The pads wash nicely. I ve since bought another set of pads but still use the original pads as spares.Cons: If cord type and length is an issue for you, be aware that it s not an auto roll and in my house I have to plug into 3 outlets to do the whole downstairs. There is not a noticeable difference in the 3 steam settings and each steam setting is not consistent. For example, in one mopping, the highest setting will sometimes puddle while at other times it s a fine mist. The lowest steam setting acts the same.Other stuff: i have not seen that the extra scrubber at the back of the base of the pad really adds anything to scrubbing that isn t taken care of by elbow grease with the normal pads. I do not have grout or large grooves in my floors though. Also, the scent disks aren t something I kept buying. I prefer essential oils or tart burners for added house aromas. There are definite pros to this steam mop, but the inconsistency in the steam settings and the puddling of water speaks to the basic functionality of a steam mop, which significantly impacted this rating. 3Don't waste your money or timeSo I bought this originally in December of 2015 within the first year the product stopped working and I contacted Bissell and they sent me a replacement. Now less than 12 months later the replacement had become defective in the exact same way as the original. I contact Bissell and they would want to go off the warranty of the original product I purchased and basically don't want to do anything now that the warranty is expired of original purchase. So don't but unless you plan on spending money about ever 12 months to replace this product. 1Warning: The cap on the bottle can become an issueI purchased this back in December of 2015. It's now July of 2016 and the cap that goes on the water bottle is completely broken and lodged in the unit. To be honest, the unit worked fine for a few months and then I noticed a small crack in the water bottle cap. Despite being as gentle as I could with it, it began leaking within the first 3 months of use. Just this past week it finally bit the dust. It barely went 6 months. I have not over tightened it (hand tight, snug only every time) and the mop has been properly stored since we bought it. I believe this is poor material, because apparently I am not the only one who has had this issue with the cap. There is another insert cap you can purchase which replaces the old one and apparently it doesn't break so easily, but it's around $20 just for the cap and bottle! It would be nice if I had known I was going to need to replace the cap within months of use. I just thought to come on here and let anyone else know about this issue before buying one of these. 3I Would Lick My FloorsI am so in love with this steam mop! My father-in-law has one and we borrowed his before purchasing ours because my husband and I were afraid of investing in yet another cleaning mop only to find it to be a bust. We have a traditional mop, the swifter & a shark duo scrubber. I was finding that the only thing that would clean my 30 year old vinyl floors was getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing with bleach and water. The swifter pads would just fill with dirt and I felt my floors were never clean. I found the shark duo scrubber to be a really expensive, glorified swifter. And I have two babies under two and operate a home daycare, I don t have time to scrub the floors on my hands and knees. This steam mop takes ONLY water and has washable pads. We had to buy one. My floors are the cleanest they have ever been with 5-10 minutes of mopping. I kid you not, I would lick these 30 year old vinyl floors. 5Cleans grout like nothing else!Absolutely amazing. I read another review about 10 year old grout needing cleaning, and I was sold from the photos. I just redid my kitchen and used dark grout, because nothing could clean my other tile floors. Had I known about this before, I would've gone with light grout. I tried it out in my bathroom first. It restored the grout and floor to like new condition! It did take some scrubbing during steaming, but it was worth it. It has also cleaned up scuff marks, creosote stains, and continues to brighten grout every time I use it. I've told everyone I know about this product and highly recommend it! Seeing the results first hand now, I would've paid more. Worth every penny. 5Buyer BewareWhen this mop worked, it worked great. The problem was that after I had it for 6 months it stopped working. After contacting Bissell and asking for them to honor their warranty they kept me on the phone for close to an hour trouble shooting the machine and then told me they would not honor it. 3Whoa! This did the trick!I just put the Bissell steam mop through its paces and I'm moved to write a scintillating review. It arrived today and took all of five minutes to assemble. So simple a caveman can do it. I followed the directions (note to other dissatisfied reviewers) to the letter. Filled the reservoir with distilled water (not top water and DEFINITELY no chemicals) and selected the lowest steam setting once the ready light steadied after a short warm up. Before setting out on my steam adventure, I vacuumed all of the floors so everything was dirt free. Our house is a mix of laminate floors and stone. We also live in a chemical-free and fragrance-free house so I ditched the fragrance discs. We don't need the phony manmade smells. I went with the lightest setting for the laminate since I did not want to over-hydrate the flooring. I did a careful pattern, a stroke at a time, to ensure I went over the laminate wood twice. The upstroke laid down the steam and then the downstroke ensured the sturdy mop head did its job.Our floors weren't in terrible shape but there were dirt, smudges and streaking left over from the family holidays. Also having two dogs that seem to love to bring into the house anything they find outside rounded out the state of the flooring. I noticed immediately that the floors looked clean even though they were still a little damp. The mop glides nicely over the flooring and I gotta say it was kinda fun. A little music and I'm a cleaning machine.Curiosity got the better of me so I lifted up the mop and put my hand under to see how hot the steam is. Word to the wise... steam is hot. That's why it's steam. And steam hurts. After the floors and stairs, I proceeded to tackle the stone tile in the entry way, kitchen and bathrooms. Once again I felt it was cleaning it nicely. A quick examination of the formerly-white pad found that a dark grey color now adorned the pad. That showed me this was doing the trick.I increased the steam to the middle setting when doing the entryway. That's the dirtiest part of the house and I figured correctly that the extra steam wouldn't harm the stone. At the increased setting the mop turned into a dirt-busting dervish with nothing standing in it's way.Completing the steam adventure was a snap. Cleanup and proper mop storage took a just a minute. I did spend a good fifteen minutes fawning over my now clean floors. My wife was suitably impressed and commented frequently how nice everything looked. This must be how an early man hunter-gatherer felt after bagging a mastodon for the family pack. All in all, I highly recommend this steam mop. It's lightweight, easy to use and best of all you too can impress the misses. 5Bissell stinks!!!I actually love this steam mop however I m incredibly disgusted by Bissell customer service. I bought my steamer in February 2017 along with a 2 year protection plan and today the cap broke off the water tank. I called the protection plan and they stated it is still under manufacturing warranty. I called Bissell and they said they could replace the cap. The representative put me on hold for what seemed like 20 minutes and then told me they do not have the part in stock. She gave me the phone number and address of a local parts store here in Fort Wayne and informed me I d have to pay for the part. I told her I would not pay for the part because I m within the 1 year warranty plus I bought an extended warranty. She basically told me I had no choice. I do have a choice and my choice is to give a bad review and warn others that Bissell s customer service is pathetic! I will never buy Bissell again. 1This mop is good until the cap cracks and it cracks after a few monthsThis mop is good until the cap cracks. The material is very low quality, so it cracks regularly. After it cracks the water starts leaking and the mop becomes unusable. I replaced the cap on my mop 4 times already and I had to pay for it each time. Another problem related to the BISSELL's customer support. I called them 5 times. They route your call to the call center in the Philippines. The scenario is very standard, the customer representative keeps you on the line for 30-45 minutes and then he tells you "we are going to send you a replacement cap" and they never do. 1
