Need a lot of strength to make it work.Boy, it sure looks like it is exactly what I was looking for, but it takes more strength to do, than I have.My DH can make it work, but I was hoping to be able to use it myself. If your strength is limited, pass on this.(If I was strong enough to use this, I'd be strong enough to pick up the boxes without the cut in handles!)
3Just OKI have to agree with many of the other reviewers of this product in that it takes some real strength to use it. If the cardboard is thin, it's fine. If it's medium thickness or thick, I am not able to cut the handle completely with this product. I have to use either a razor knife to finish it or pound on the end of the Box Buddy with a rubber mallet to get the blades to cut through the cardboard. Using the Box Buddy is better than cutting the handle hole with only a razor knife, but it takes a great amount of strength to use it by itself.
3SO AWESOME!Where has this thing been all my life?? Now I can cut handles into all those Amazon boxes and use them for storage! Brilliant invention!
5Requires lots of Strength - Highly dangerous if mis-alignedBlades are weak, mine bent on second day, won't easily cut through boxes, requires real strength, I am a 240 pound male with lots of muscle. Also, very dangerous if it's mis-aligned, it cut my fingers.
2I thank my self whenever I have to carry a box of stuff to my storage area.Love this product. It is not totally perfect but close enough! It does require some effort to get the final 1/2" of the motion that cuts and creases the cardboard, but it is hard to see how they could avoid that.It cuts a PERFECT handle in cardboard. great shape and the crease allows a perfect "fold" when I used to cut my own handles, the cutout wasn't perfect and the "fold" was uneven, leading to tearing sometimes. No problem with that anymore.I used light oil to lubricate the sliding surfaces to make it easier to use. don't use too much to avoid any mess. One caveat, the two parts fit together in only one way and cant be rotated 180 degrees. If you do the parts won't align and you'll slightly bend the blades. Don't ask me how I know. I was able to straighten them but pay attention to the small ridges on both sides which indicate the "up" side of each part.
5Saved me quite a bit of money and is going to make my move much easier!Perfect for buying cheaper boxes and making them easier to move. Instead of paying extra for precut handles, I bought this and found boxes for about a dollar each at Walmart. Compared to three dollar boxes with handles, I am saving some serious money. This would also work for free boxes- I just wanted them all to be the same size so they pack in the moving truck better. As far as using this device, I have a couple of tips. 1) the two pieces of this hole cutter only line up one way. After trying to do it wrong and cutting the plastic, I marked the tops of both pieces with a sharpie so I windows it again. 2) I don't know why I expected it to cut through the boxes like butter, but it obviously doesn't... The best way I have found is to hold one side in place and hit the center of the other side with my other palm. A rubber mallet would work as well. Unless you are the hulk, you might find this useful.
5Nice little tool, much easier than cutting handles with a utility knife. It does what it claims, some people have said it's hard to use, but if you rock it like the instructions say it's not that bad, but it's not like cutting butter or anything. The holes are a little smaller than I would like, but they work. So if it sounds like something you could use, I'd certainly recommend it.
5A Very Clever IdeaWhen I recycle boxes I generally take one large box and put the smaller cut up boxes inside the larger box. When full, the larger box can get quite heavy and is usually difficult to carry. The Box Buddy is an ingenious little device that allows me to punch clean handle openings in the sides of any size cardboard box making it much easier to carry AND it also makes it much easier for your refuse/recycle collector to pick up on trash day.My only single disappointment is that there are NO replacement blades available for this product. Consequently when the blade gets dull I will have to purchase another Box Buddy.
4It's really not so hard to use the Box Buddy cutterBought this in August 2016, and it works! Here's a hint: it can require some strength to punch through cardboard if you use only your hands and arms. However, by setting the cutter in place and then rotating the box so that one part of the cutter rests on a table or floor, you can add leverage by pushing downward and bringing your weight to bear.
5Just what I was looking for!Just what I was looking for! I ship a 20x20x24 box, when filled is 62lbs and has been a pain to carry these things as I'm getting a bit older. I run a small (micro) business and cannot afford to have a custom box made with handles, so this was the PERFECT solution for me!I am definitely going to order some more of these things, in case they disappear, I want to make sure I have my stash. Thanks,Paul AndersonAnchor Caddie
