Customer Reviews

Darn good tool!Who knew this simple tool would be so valuable?! We live in the country and have a septic system on the side of the house. When we moved in with our dogs we immediately decided we needed a fence for our fur babies. It sa VERY delicate thing drilling into the ground near a septic system, so we needed something to help us locate the field fingers so that we wouldn t crush/destroy them when putting the fence in. These worked great! We just sprayed water on the probe as we were pushing it down into the ground to locate the fingers and it worked! We were able to find the fingers and map out our yard so as to avoid ruining the system (could ve been an extremely costly mistake). The fence guy didn t crush anything or hit and fingers with the help of this tool! 5Built like a tank but need a spearGreat construction and material quality but found the rough probe corrosion coating is very durable and creates a lot of drag when trying to shove into the ground. After several tries everyone that has used these ( I bought 3-4) abandons them and goes to the bare steel rods with bent handles that are not as comfortable and definitely not as safe but much easier to probe to depth. I was hoping with use these would polish up and get easier but the coating has exhibited almost zero wear and so has lots of drag /friction even when putting full body weight over the T Handle. It is strong, comfortable, and corrosion resistant. 4Why put tape on the freaking handle?!I don't write many negative reviews. I'm kind of the opposite of most. I like to praise things. This arrived and will be a good Tool for my needs of gopher tunnel hunting to try to rid them from my yard, but somebody put tape on the handle of this for no reason. The said tape proceeded to leave its glue behind in the heat of the shipping vehicles. Now the tape has been removed, but the tape goop is left on the rubber coated handle. I'm using this to dig in dirt, so the goop gets on my hands because it's tape adhesive and then the dirt I am working in is a mess on my hands. I shouldn't have to wash my hands EVERY TIME I TOUCH this thing. It's sad. There was no reason to have it there. It served no purpose but to make this a mess to use. Otherwise it is great! And if an Amazon employee put the tape on the handle, then you have caused this company an unfair review.Update: 8/4/2017The vendor commented they don't put tape on their handles, which makes sense because it served no purpose. I upgraded to 5 because it is nicely made. People complaining of them flexing or bending may need to try the shorter 3' model. 5Probes the Soil with the Best of 'emI purchased this to stake and lay out my existing leach field in the backyard. I watched some of the plumbers use these in my yard, so, naturally I had to have one of my own. This made quick and easy work of laying out my lines without major digging. At first, I was a little hesitant given the diameter of the rod. Also, some reviewers noted the weld ring on the point being a problem with probing. However, I had no issues with this at all. It penetrated the soil as designed and offered little resistance.I live in Georgia with Tough as Nails red clay. This pierced the soil with ease. If you're having trouble, try waiting on a rain to begin your probing. Two days after a rain this thing worked like a champ.I have no doubt that this will last a lifetime. The build quality is excellent and the rubber grips are easy on the hands. If you're in the market for one of these, ignore the reviews saying it doesn't work well. Get this and you'll be happy. 5Easiest way to see how far down your watering of trees has goneLearned about one of these through Master Gardeners and Citrus Tree Seminar. The only real way to tell for sure how much of the water you have on your trees is actually getting down into the soil. After watering you just poke it down and when you can no longer go, that's the end of your water. This is a must to know when growing Citrus and really for all trees and plants. Should water longer and less often so roots develop below and no just on the surface. 5The tool works great, howeverThe tool works great, however, I believe I received a knock off tool. The picture of product shows the tool handle has bully tools screen printed on it. Also with it proudly stating "made in America," on every other bully tool I have used or bought. The tool I received did not have anything printed on it. While I am sure the tool can and will do the job, just a little disappointed that my order for a made in America tool, might not be well uh made in America. 2Solid...until you bend itI purchased this for the sole purpose of trying to find my septic tank. As others have noted, the one I received that the weld line near the head making the probe difficult to remove from the ground. I ended up hitting some wet soil which made it stick, so I wiggled it back and forth a bit to make it easier to remove from the ground. After I got it all the way out, the probe had a slight bend to it. Now it wont stop bending and is pretty well useless. 3Solid construction but why leave the welding bead? The probe is solidly made and didn't buckle at all when I ran into a rock. But, there's a welding bead around the body of the probe just above the point. The bead effectively makes the probe larger while trying to push into the ground, and catches on the edges of the hole when you're pulling back. It's sloppy construction and doesn't match up to the advertising photos.Yes. I'd recommend this to you if you need one, but I'd advise you to have the welding bead removed before you get started. It'll make a difference if you don't. 4Went through semi easily in some spots and was a bear in others ...Worked perfectly to find my septic tank and lids. Watched a few videos on youtube to help get a starting point in the yard. Used this tool about 4 days after it had rained and I have all clay. Went through semi easily in some spots and was a bear in others but may just been I had gotten tired of stabbing my yard 50x! Tip is not welded on, its machined/cut as part of the shaft. 5SIMPLE, STURDY AND EASY TO USEI bought the product to help locate a septic field on property recently acquired. Took some effort to probe for tank and all gravel filled trenches but it did the job. At first I thought the padded handles were mostly for show but they really proved their worth during extended use. If it is practical, I recommend using it after a rain as it penetrates much easier when the ground is moist.Only heartburn I had was with the packaging. This thing is relatively heavy and with a very sharp point. The item was shipped loose in the box and there were three places where the probe penetrated all the way through the box end. Very hazardous to delivery people and property. 5
