Cast Iron Oil.....real good stuff!I clean my skillet before I sit down to eat. That way food residue doesn't weld itself to the cast iron. If there are stuck remains I use a chain mail scrubber to get the big particles loose. Then hot water bath with a nylon scrubber (no detergent). By now it looks really clean, but, I then sprinkle a little table salt in and using a paper towel get all the material that I couldn't see!Now that I have a spankin' clean pan, I squirt a little Caron & Doucet oil in the skillet and spread it all around with a paper towel. Yes, inside and outside. The whole pan! LOLAlthough they say it's ready to cook with again I always cover the bottom before frying with my veggie oil.....cause I always have and refuse tochange!This oil makes my Made in the USA Lodge utensils look so good that I'm now going to take sander to a couple old Made In China pans and see what happens. 5This works FABULOUSLY!!After purchasing my cast iron pots and pans I wanted to make sure I had what I needed to take care of it to the best of my ability. I didn't want to use just any oil to season my cast iron as some of them can go rancid, some of them get sticky and some of them are just too expensive to use on pots and pans. When I found "Cast Iron Oil" I thought I'd give this a try and I've been very pleasantly surprised at how well it works.I absolutely recommend this product to anyone wanting to find the right oil to season their cast iron pots and pans either for the first time or to maintain a good seasoning. This absolutely works and it's easy to use. 5Works GreatThe magic stuff is expensive, but leaves my cast iron wonderfully clean and conditioned. Even if I don't use my pan for several weeks, when I remove it from the cupboard, the pan is in ready to go condition. No gloopy mess like using veg oil use to leave. I just place the cast iron oil in a very small glass spray bottle, and use it sparingly on the pans after wiping out with paper towels, or scrubbing with SS chain-link scrubber. No soap ever touch's my cast iron or carbon steel pans. 5I tried this on my Griswold pan after running out ...I tried this on my Griswold pan after running out of the Camp Chef conditioner. After putting a very thin layer of this oil on the pan, I noticed a lot more smoke/burn of the oil at a lower heat. The Camp Chef conditioner could take a lot more heat and this oil burned at a lower temperature. I.e. I couldn't pre heat the pan without getting a lot of smoke. I'll give it a few more tries and really make sure I'm not putting a lot of oil on the pan (thought I did that already). 2Good quality oil that has helped maintain the seasoning on my cast iron and carbon steel pans.Works as expected. The smell is very citrus-y and my family likes it. It has a very thin consistency which is nice. It does not take a lot to coat a pan. Very happy with the product. My only gripe is of the bottle. No matter what you do, it will drip when you pour it out, getting the bottle oily I, like others, have transferred it into another bottle to prevent the spilling. 5VERY SMALL BOTTLEBe aware this is a tiny bottle. I don't think this amount is worth the price. I emailed the seller and they said they're looking to get bigger bottles. I think it should be MAYBE $4.99 at this size. 120ml is 12% of a liter. think of it that way 3Good product with a few issuesI like this product and the fact that it is made from all plant-based ingredients. There are a few issues that made me give it a four-star rating.1. The flip-top lid leaks (in fact it was leaking in the Amazon box when I got it), and when you squirt the oil into the pan, it always drips down the side of the bottle no matter what you do.2. It's not as emollient as other cast-iron pan conditioners I have used. It feels like you need to use more than you should.3. I'm not sure how I feel about it having a scent. It's pretty subtle, but it doesn't seem necessary. 4Made me love my retired cast iron pan again.I hated my cast iron pan because food stuck to it and it took hulk strength to scrub off; seasoning with olive oil made a greasy mess; when I cooked anything with a strong odor, it stayed in the pan no matter how much I scrubbed and only stopped smelling if I used soap - the number one enemy of cast iron. I retired it to a closet, never to be used again. Then my friend raved and raved about her pan and showed me some pointers...so out came my pan.This seasoning made me love my pan again. When I took it out of the closet, it had a little rust on it. I scrubbed the rust off with a scouring sponge, washed really clean with soap, and coated the entire pan (top and bottom) lightly with this oil. I put this into my oven and baked it for 30 minutes. I pulled it out - good as new. I fried wontons in it - not one thing stuck. Next I tried an omlette and as surprised it came out better than on my nonstick - wow! Whereas the egg sometimes stuck to the side of my nonstick, this slid right off.The best part about this is the cleaning. I put my pan into the sink and scrub with a dish washing brush. I also bought a pan scrubber, a small hard plastic piece that removed any crusted food that didn't come off with a light scrubbing. The scrubber removed crusted on food without any elbow grease. Then I put my pan on the stove, turn up the heat to low and wipe off all water with a paper towel before it got too hot. Once I knew it was completely dry from the towel and heat, I added just about 1/2 tsp. of this oil and coated the pan. I let the oil get hot until I could see a slight smoke rise it and then turn it off right away. Cleaning and oiling takes less than 5 minutes and best of all, no more food smells. Something about this oil removed all of that.If you or people you are cooking for are allegic to coconut, this has coconut. 5Nice Product - But Mineral Oil Works Just As Well and Is MUCH CheaperAn OK product... I won't buy again. Here are the reasons:1) I use to own a snack food manufacturing plant. One of the snacks I made was Fried Pork Rinds and the plant was inspected each day by a USDA inspector. Why? Because its a meat product and a USDA requirement. Fried pork rinds and all other meat products leave behind fats and protean on the processing equipment. So we may pass USDA inspection, all of our processing, frying, grilling, etc., equipment MUST be clean. So how do we clean it? With White Oil.. which is a mineral oil. Similar to Baby Oil but without the perfume and is food grade.2) In the 1970's I managed hotels in Guam, Saipan, and the Big Island of Hawaii. All of these resort hotels have excellent restaurants. How did we keep the restaurant equipment clean? Mineral oil. Wipe mineral oil onto stainless steel and it will come clean and shine like new. A range or an oven for example. Spills and protean on steel tables, fried bits on top of the range or baked in the oven... all can be removed with mineral oil, a little Scotch Brite Scouring Pad and a bit of elbow grease.3) Most coconut oil comes from the Philippines. Second is Indonesia while the third largest producer is Malaysia. There are several ways to make coconut oil which in the Philippines and other places is even used for biodiesel fuel! Of course, food grade coconut oil is manufactured a little different. The methods are too long to detail here. Both in Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines (where I lived for a time) there is a simple, traditional method to make food grade coconut oil in one's kitchen. It's used in baked goods, confections, non dairy creamers, snack foods, small engine oil and even transformer oil. I've seen it used as brake fluid. All forms of coconut oil is a very useful product.4) I have the Weber Performer BBQ and the Weber Smoky Mountain smoker. This afternoon I smoked 2 racks of ribs in the Weber Performer and 3 racks in the Weber Smoky Mountain. I used this product (I purchased from Amazon a few days ago) on one half of the grill and the other half I used mineral oil. Both did an excellent job. I also used a scouring pad with both products. Each side came out gleaming. There was no difference. Oh there WAS a BIG difference... and that is in price! This product is 120ml (from Canada) and here in the USA that translates to 4.058 fluid oz. The bottle is small vs. price in other words.5) There is a lever below the spray trigger. Its an on/off lever. No matter which way I turned it, the fluid came out in a STREAM and not a SPRAY. Therefore, one must spray a scouring pad or a paper towel (whatever you're using) and do not spray onto the grill. It will simply go through the grill. I didn't like this feature at all as it creates expensive waste.6) If you are seasoning cast iron products... you can use Canola oil (spray) just as effectively and much cheaper! In fact, when you purchase a quality piece of cast iron (skillet or Dutch oven for example), the seasoning instructions will clearly tell you this.Last (but not least), I like to work on my Dodge RAM diesel truck. I use mineral oil to keep it clean. Similarly, on the diesel engine of my boat I use mineral oil also.Remember, you can clean your grills with Canola oil, Mineral oil, or this nice oil. But after you have wiped everything clean and heated it up... the heat will further clean everything and sterilize at the same time.Oh, and for you mechanics out there who have used Goop or a similar product as your hand cleaner... if you read the ingredient list you'll find that it is mostly mineral oil and lanolin. Lanolin comes from the glands of wool bearing animals (mainly sheep) and is used as a skin cleaner and skin softener. Add in a little orange oil (citrus oil) and you've got a nice smelling, excellent hand cleaner.In conclusion, this is a good product but it is way overpriced. If it were much less expensive, I'd buy it again. I wish the seller good luck but I'll stick with mineral oil. 3Very small bottle.It works ok. I'm not knocking the product, but 120ml is a very, very small bottle. And to be honest I was using either coconut oil or flax oil from the grocery story, they both worked just as well and even flax oil is cheaper when you look at the size of the bottle your getting. I will not be buying this again! 3
