Warped and unsanded. What a waste of money.They re grilling planks. How hard is it to sand one side and use properly dried cedar?All 12 are rough sawn on both sides and are already warping one day out of the package.Pure and utter junk. Look elsewhere for a decent quality product, because it definitely isn t this. 1Might not be pretty but they work well!These planks are rather rough compared to the ones I have used in the past, but that in no way negatively effects their cooking ability. They're also definitely smaller, but that is a bonus for us as we're usually only cooking for 2 or 3 and this size plank is more than adequate, fits very nicely on our grill and even leaves room for some vegetables on the grill. We've been quite happy with these. Only negative is in presentation - they don't look as good as the lovely, sanded smooth ones, so I take the food off the plank and put it on a platter which is certainly not a problem. Will definitely purchase again. 5So Very Pleased with the ResultsThis was the first time I grilled salmon on my big green egg. I used a combination of recipes for hot smoked salmon and grilled it at a low temperature of 220 . I use the planks for the very first time and carefully selected these from the reviews. I am so glad I did a careful search. The resulting hot smoked salmon was exceptional. My son a good cook himself, what is skeptical as he watched it cook. But he too was amazed at the delicious results. I wash these planks off and will save them for the next smoking. I m a woman who lives alone and loves to cook and I am beginning to plan my next party to serve hot smoked salmon on the cedar planks. 5Work greatI am really happy with these planks. I bought another brand previously and they were almost in cinders at the end of grilling! These are not like that at all. Its understandable that some blackness will occur, but it's either none or very little and doesn't affect the meat/fish etc. I do soak mine for a good hour or more though just to be sure. One thing I do is quite heavy duty; salmon steaks covered in brown sugar, salt etc, so these boards have been through the test since the brown sugar caramelizes towards the end but it's never been a problem with these boards and the fish comes right off (i do them skin side down). I also add some liquid smoke to the soak which adds even more smoky flavour, but have also done without and they still give the food a nice smoky flavour. I liked their tip about putting them in the freezer after soaking, and have one in there but haven't tried it yet.Great value as well. 5Could very easily have a splint in my foodMaybe am so unlucky or maybe the seller just stopped paying attention to the quality of product having so many positive reviews... Out if 12 planks in my pack only 6 were sanded on one side. The other 6 were rough on both sides! Could very easily have a splint in my food.Update as of May 24: after my original review, the seller contacted me and sent a replacement. To my surprise, the new set of boards was even worse than the first one: only 2 planks were sanded on one side, the others were rough on both sides!!! 1If you love cedar grilled fish, buy these planks!Excellent cedar planks, that is, if you like cedar plank fish such as salmon. Ridiculously easy - soak in water for a few hours. Place plank on heated grill for a couple minutes per side to char, place fish on plank, and grill over indirect heat until done. Amazing flavor. Each plank is large enough for a couple good-sized fillets, and given that juices soak into the wood, don't even think about saving for reuse. They are inexpensive - just throw away after one time. 5These planks aren't magic, but you might think so when you taste your grilled fish!I used these for my first attempt cedar plank grilling at home. I generally do not like grilled/baked fish, and like most Southerners, prefer my fish fried. I decided to cook some frozen tilapia fillets that we had on hand, and wanted a tasty, healthy way to prepare them. I had seen cedar grilling at restaurants and though that I could give this a try.These planks are super easy to use. First, you soak the planks you plan to use in water. These planks can fit a couple of good sized fillets, or in my case, 3 or 4 dinky fillets. While waiting on those two things, season your fish with some olive oil, your favorite fish seasoning, and salt and pepper. After 30 minutes soaking, your planks are ready. Next, you fire up your grill and get it good an hot. Place the planks on the grill, and let one side get charred black. Flip the planks, put your fillets on the black side of the plank, and let them cook until done. No flipping needed. Lastly, enjoy your healthy dinner! The cedar planks give your fish a tasty smokey flavor! The talapia fillets that I cooked were nothing special, but this method of cooking with these planks made for some tasty grilled fish. I can't wait to try this on some fresh-caught bass or maybe some crappie! Also, this is a great way to meal prep for your week at work if you are on a diet or you are bodybuilding. I highly recommend it! 5Planks for the memoriesDifferent planks from different manufacturers do impart a different flavor to the food. I have used these several times and have received compliments on the smell of the smoke during cooking, and rave reviews on the flavor of the fish (salmon in dill sauce is my go-to preparation). Even left over food the next day (on toast) had a significant smoke aroma and flavor that comes from the planks.Key cooking practice is to keep the temperature of the grill in the 250-300 degree F range... higher than that and you have potential for a acrid smoke and flames, which IMO creates a less appealing piece of fish.In my experience a "low and slow" approach to cooking is always the best. 5Great Price, Great ValueAmazing is what comes to mind. I previously cooked a salmon fillet on a cedar plank without the texture (it was a smooth plank), after using these planks I can taste the difference big time. They are great, I fully recommend them, my local big box store sells them for $10 for 2 planks! I guess Cedar is a rare species in California, then again, what isn't considered rare and special around here :) Buy these, they will make you happy and the price is very reasonable. 5Excellent!Cedar plank cooking has intrigued me for a while and I'm glad I tried it with these planks. I'm thoroughly impressed. I like the rough sides, it gives more surface area to absorb the liquid they are soaking in. I haven't soaked them in plain water, but I've soaked them in apple juice along with a few herbs and spices and my favorite so far, Jack Daniels and a few herbs and spices. Letting them dry out for about 30 minutes after a 15 hour soak, made for some fabulous flavors and aromas when the salmon was cooked. The smokiness of the Jack Daniels combined with the smoke of the wood and the flavor of the cedar all soaked into the salmon. Divine eating. I am very pleased with these planks. 5
