Just OK.After a period of time, the suction cups release and the unit falls to the floor. Fortunately, the amount of time it holds is more than enough to complete a shower. To continue using the unit, we remove between showers. That seems to work. 3Shower SafeAfter my most recent fall on 8/3/18 this 78 y/o decided I had to make my shower area safer for me.. I had wanted to install these shower/tub grips on the shower wall in my previous apartment's shower area but the tub walls were one piece fiberglass & these grips wouldn't hold on them but now my shower walls are tile which makes the difference.. I selected these particular shower grips because they were large & had textured grips on the handle which I felt was a plus so I bought 4 of them & put them in strategic places on the shower wall for my preference & need.. LOVE them absolutely LOVE them and they definitely do the job..In addition to purchasing these wall grips I purchased the Drive Medical Adjustable Height Bathtub Grab Bar Safety Rail to place on the top of the tub rim to I could hold onto that when I entered the shower area LOVE this too & it was necessary for me..Since my most recent fall where I fell backwards over the rim of the tub which I hit my back on & then fell backwards onto the very hard cement/tiled floor (first floor apartments always have cement floors) and I hit my back & head again I needed to do something to try & prevent this from happening a third time.. I had also developed a fear of getting into the shower which I am just starting to get over since I now have some security around me..I also bought 2 of the Changing Lifestyles Safe-er-Grip Portable Shower Arm to assist me with my handheld shower device but really only needed one but I am keeping the second one 'just in case'.. This turned out to be a plus for me too since I am only 5'2'' & now don't have to reach up so much to get & return my handheld shower device which was causing me to become unsteady when I reached up to get & return it..When you live alone the thought of the day is to "be safe" and now I feel I have accomplished that.. 5SorryWorked fine in the beginning, then after a few weeks it fell off the wall. Don't want a replacement in case it falls off when my husband is holding it & he would fall too! Just fell off the wall and heard a loud thud, went running to see what happened & there it was in the tub. Now it won't suction again. Shucks we really liked it too! Probably just got a lemon boo! 1How I managed to keep the Safe-er-Grip more-or-less permanently attached to my shower tiles.A shower handle which bolts into the wall is a much better, stronger and safer alternative. However, sometimes that is not possible, especially in a rented apartment which I have. So, I eventually purchased two Safe-er-Grip and (after many failures) have learned how to keep the darned things on the shower wall. I hope my experience may help others. I first, naively, simple pushed the handle on the shower tiles and locked the little levers down. The Safe-er-Grip was on the bottom of the tub the next morning.Since then I've tried numerous options and finally have been able to keep both handles tight on the wall for over two months now. It takes a little effort.First, the tiles much be cleaned, really cleaned. I use the stuff made for glass-top stoves which has some power but won't scratch. Scrub the tiles hard with a good, stiff brush, then rinse all the residue away with lots of water. Next the handles. After many failures, I found that Vaseline worked. You need to put a fairly heavy coat on each of the round disks (a thin coat won't work). I would say the coat of Vaseline is about 1/32 to 1/16" thick. Then push the handle tight against the tiles and lock down the levers. So far, they will usually stay in place for a week or two. The big secret is to take more Vaseline on your finger and run a bead of the stuff all around the perimeter of the disk. You have now increased the "stay life" for I don't know how long. The sad news is that the Vaseline bead has to be renewed about once a week. Perhaps water washes it away, it dries up, I don't know. But I do know that a weekly application seems to keep it tight, going on two months now for me.Obviously the disks cannot span a grout line and I never rely on this handle for anything heavy. But it does help this 89 year old guy keep his balance and feel much more secure during a shower.Hope this helps. Guy 4Unsafe product!!!It almost caused my mom to have a bad fall in the shower! I had clamped it on securely to my mom's bathtub shower tiles and it seemed very secure. but after just one week one side just unclamped/uncupped itself from the wall as she came to hold it! My mom was very fortunate not to have had a horrible fall as she has bad knees and degenerative disc disease. This thing is not making it safer for people instead gives you a false sense of security and definitely is NOT secure. She took it off and threw it away. 1Could not get these to remain sealed to my tilesI bought these to install in my shower for my elderly father-in-law during a recent visit. I install a similar product in his shower, and it has worked flawlessly on his tile shower wall. I was disappointed that these would not stick to my tiled shower walls for more than a minute or so without sliding or detaching from the tile when pressed against or pulled on. This is unacceptable for my application needs. I tried properly cleaning the surfaces, but nothing worked. The construction of these handles seemed a bit cheap as well. I sent them back to Amazon and was quickly refunded. 1Both the 11.5" and 17" (16.5") worked fine on my 4" bathroom tilesI bought both the 11.5" and 17" (16.5") to assist my husband getting in the shower/tub after knee replacement surgery since I wasn't sure which would fit best. I have 4" tiles (very smooth ceramic) and ended up keeping both. I mounted the 11.5" at the entrance and the 17" at the far tub wall. The 11.5" handle did cross the grout line as seen in photo but I had no problem getting a secure grip. We tested both with full body weight and they didn't budge. We have been using them daily as recommended not expecting them to support full body weight and are pleased. We also make sure to test them before we enter the tub. After my husband recovers I plan to let my mother try these since she sometimes needs help with stability. I did notice that each bar was a different shade of white but that wasn't a problem for me. If I needed a lot of support I would install permanent shower grab bars but these worked great for my current need. 517" Grip Works on 4 1/4 inch tilesI ordered this without very high expectations due to the negative reviews however, there are so few options that are not permanent that I was willing to give it a try. I am happy to report that so far, it's working just fine. I have 4 1/4 inch ceramic tiles so I ordered the 17" grip and it fits perfectly without overlapping any grout lines. The smaller grip wouldn't work for me without overlapping the grout lines. It was very easy to install - just pull up the handles, press firmly into place and push the handles down. So far, it has held securely in place for several months through daily showers. It's installed in a very small shower stall so it gets completely wet every time and it has come loose once. It doesn't have the feature that lets you know when the suction cups are secure or loose so it is checked before each use but so far, I'm happy with it and it suits my purpose. Please remember that these types of grips are NOT intended to support weight, they are for balance only. If you need a grip to support weight, you need one that is permanent and it should be professionally installed otherwise you risk injury. 4Lifestyles Safe-er-Grip 17" Bath BarI would give this ZERO stars if that were possible. This item would not stay in place no matter what I did. My parent needed this as the new apartment they moved into does not have built in safety bars in the bathroom for seniors and for people with disabilities. The tiles are 8x8 and smooth around the tub area. I thoroughly cleaned the tiles in the tub area to make sure there was no dirt, soap residue or anything else on the tiles. I even wiped them down with 90% denatured alcohol in the area that the suction cup attached to to make sure the area was clean. I also cleaned the suction cup with dawn dish liquid and rinsed it to assure no residue. The bars stayed on the tile for less than 30 minutes and fell off. I was concerned this might happen based on other reviews. I then used distilled water and dampened the suction cups and tried again. Same issue, they fell off within 30 minutes. The good on these is that when you initially put them on the tile they are locked on very well and could be used for balance support with no problem. Not staying in place for more than 30 minutes is an issue.I am going to return these as they are of no value. My parent does not have the strength in their hands nor the balance to be able to place these on the walls to assist them getting in and out of the tub area each morning.I have had other products for use in a shower/tub area for things such as suction based shelves and they stay up/on for weeks/months at a time that I used to use in my children's bathtub area. I am not sure what the issue is with this products ability to hold long term. I can not recommend these as they do not hold. 1Tried everything. Didn't work.Had this for just over 2 years in a home with very soft water, and I'm the only one who's ever used it. At first, it would stay up on the shower wall nicely - while I was taking a shower. But an hour or so later, I'd hear a crash and find the grip lying on the shower floor. (I have a standard tiled shower, not as shiny as subway tile, but good enough for this device.) Okay fine, I said, I'll just take it down after every shower. Then it started sliding around on the wall during my showers. Okay, I tried attaching it fully dry, no moisture on it or the tile. Same result. I tried attaching it fully moistened. Same result. Then it finally came crashing down on my leg during a shower, leaving a nasty bruise. I looked at it closely and saw where the rubber had come apart on one end. I should've tossed it, but I glued the broken rubber (see photo) and tried again. The glue didn't hold, and again it came crashing down. Now it's going in the trash and I'm getting a permanent grip. 1
