It is completely clear!
I needed a clear cover for my desktop planning calendar, and these placemats are large enoughto cover the whole calendar, so it stays unharmed and clean whole month. I use a paper clip tokeep it in place over the calendar, and easy to lift up to write information on calendar.Looked for a long time to find a clear cover!I use the extra three on my dining room table, keeps table cloth cleaner.
5BADLY MADE PRODUCT
Don't waste your money on these. They arrived damaged...edges rough, spots where they were "crackling." I tried to return them. Missed the first pick-up and put the label on that they left me. I put the box out on the porch for a week. They never picked it up. So, I decided to use them under plants and so forth. I did put two on the table...the two that were the least damaged. I have used them for less than a month. They have crackled even more...and, they are warping just from the heat generated from the food on the plate! I suppose they will soon be put in the trash. Never again will I order from this company, and, neither should you!
1Perfect for "off-label" use :-)
I purchased these for a somewhat unconventional use... we have a crazy black cat who loves to splash water out of his water bowl. The water ends up all over our painted sheet rock walls, which eventually would lead to damage. So I was looking for something thin, lightweight and crystal clear to protect our walls and these are very good for that purpose. I purchased some of the clear 3M command strips to attach these to the wall and the combination is working perfectly so far. These are very unobtrusive on the walls.
5Not clear. They are opaque
Do not buyI was so Disappointed.They are not clear as advertised.They are opaque. I am unable to See my Christmas placemats under them.I purchased these years ago and they were clear.I only paid about $10 for them. Not worth the postage to retire them.
1GOOD QUALITY JUST NOT CLEAR!
When I first received these placemats I was very disappointed because they were not clear. They are opaque. I have searched the web for clear (I mean glass clear) and there are none available. So I am left with the problems of returning them and have nothing or keeping them and make the best of it. I have purchased the clear ones many times in the past and I love them. If anyone makes a true clear placemat in the future I will surely buy them. I must say the quality of the opaque ones is great. So I will keep them. I took one star off because I really, really wanted CLEAR. I spent hours on the web and believe me there are none out there. If you just want a plain placemat of good material that you can see thru although foggy these will do the job.
4Heat resistant??????
I thought these place mats would be great! Boy, was I wrong!! They were slippery and would not stay in place. They scratched very easily, even though we were careful and didn't put anything sharp or scratchy on them.(it's not like we cleaned them with sandpaper, for heaven's sake!) And heat resistant??????? After a dinner meal with an no more than an average "hot"/warm plate, they buckled to the point they were unusable. What a waste of money!
1Meant for some other purpose
After searching for some plastic placemat options, I opted for these as the description said they were clear. I also liked that they were plain and so ordered 2 sets. While they are more frosted than clear (what I expected from the photos), these all had a hole punched into the short side as if they are meant to be hanged somewhere. I've never owned placemats that had a hanging hole so it makes me think these are meant for some other purpose. Fine if that's the case as I like creativity, but why not disclose the true purpose of these plastic sheets and say they can be used for a wide variety of things? I would have kept searching for proper placemats with no holes.

They arrived on time. I did see previous reviews saying they're not clear and have holes to hang... the ones I received are exactly as described- clear placemats. They work perfectly for my use of a shield for my blue & gold Amazon bird and beautiful hardwood floors. They are easy to wash and you can't see them on the floor.
5Not really clear.
I bought these to use over my decorative cloth placemats so I would be able to wipe them off. They needed to be about a half inch larger both ways. The description said they were clear but they are not. They had a milky look to them and I couldn't really see the placemats beneath it. Returned for a refund.
