  • CONTROL ODORS NATURALLY: The airtight lid and replaceable activated-charcoal filter work together to trap and control odors naturally, so your kitchen compost bin can sit conveniently on your countertop or wherever you need it. The chic modern design also complements any decor.
  • SIMPLE CLEANING PROCESS: The stylish stainless steel bin is molded in one piece and resists rust and leaks, unlike other bins that are welded and prone to rust and leakage at the weld points over time. Eco-friendly convenience is always at your fingertips, while nasty bacteria is not. v
  • PUT IT ANYWHERE: The 1.3 gallon size is big enough to hold several days' worth of compostable organic kitchen waste like vegetable peels, fruits, and coffee grounds yet still small enough to fit on countertops. Measures 7.16" in diameter x 11" high.
  • DURABLE STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION TO LAST A LIFETIME: Molded in a single piece for strength and durability that won't scratch, crack or chip. Made of premium, rust-resistant stainless steel -- will never leach toxic chemicals into your compost.
  • COMES WITH REPLACEABLE CHARCOAL FILTER: The specially designed activated-charcoal filter is the key to an odorless indoor compost bin. The filter can be cleaned with soap and water, like the bin. Will last more than 6 months with careful handling.

Great pail for compostingWe've had this compost pail for a little over a week and it's worked out great! We use compost bags inside the pail to keep it from getting nasty. We've also been pretty consistent about emptying out the pail nearly every day; we have a 90 gallon compost bin that gets picked up every week so it works best to keep as much of the compost outside in the 90 gallon bin as possible. It also works best to give the pail a quick cleaning before putting a new bag in the pail and begin using it again. The compost pail sits on our counter top and it looks good, the top is super easy to remove so you can throw your food scraps in with one hand while removing the top with the other. Highly recommended! 5DISAPPOINTED - DEFECTIVE PRODUCTI was looking forward to receiving this steel compost bin product as the reviews were great and I needed a container to place my compost items in. The container was stainless steel, although it appears to be a thin layer. I started putting disposable foods in the container and about a week or so later emptied the contents into my compost. When I went to wash the container I noticed a defect, a pit on the inside, that appeared to be rusted. Being as I had just purchased the container and had never emptied and examined it previously, I was quite surprised that it was rusting. Amazon will refund my purchase price for the product once it is returned, however I would have rather had a product that was not defective and served the purpose for which it was intended. A real disappointment. My advice is to carefully check the inside and outside of this product when you receive it to be sure it is in new and perfect condition. I am hoping this was a fluke as I would like to order another one, if I can get one that is not defective as I believe it would have done the job it was intended to do. It was nice looking, held a considerable amount of disposable foods, and the charcoal filter seems to really take care of odors well. 1Super functionalI love this bin. It wipes clean so easily that I have never had the need to put it in the dishwasher, scrub it, or even use soap. Just hot water and a towel to dry, and there is never a smell left behind. There are a lot of questions about how airtight the container is, and here is my two cents:The lid already fits very well; however, I took the advice of the people who suggest a paper towel barrier between the liner (if you use one, and I do) and the pail. I take a segment of two [connected] paper towels and cut it lengthwise. I arrange those pieces in the pail so that either end of each piece of towel comes up the side of the pail and ends at the top - it s a perfect fit and covers the inside of the pail completely. Then I add the liner, and with the layer of paper towel and the liner hanging over the lip, the lid now has an extra-snug fit.It s a little more effort but it s worth noting that I had a bad case of fruit flies last year. It took me about a month to get rid of them, and during that time I never had a single fruit fly in the compost pail. The lid was tight and I presume the charcoal filter is an effective deterrent.- I ve been using mine five months and have not had to change the filter yet.- the site of the handle attachment appears to be watertight if anyone cares.- the size is perfect (someone else in a hilarious review has already waxed poetic about that; find said review for details).- the design is great - the lid pulls off easily despite its snugness and the handle is useful.- my god I just love how easy it is to clean and keep clean. Simple is best. I would totally give this pail an NSF certification. 5Perfect addition to our kitchen, thinking of getting a second.I have been looking for some time. I have been using those used ice cream pails, (not the most attractive look) but hey it worked. The price was great.Delivery was quick. The size 1 gallon is perfect for our needs. We are a family of 3. Husband dumps coffee grounds his egg every morning & I use at least once a day. It arrived On the 19th of Dec. & I didn't need to dump until the 26th.The color was as described. The matte finish was great, it blended in with my other stainless. There were a few scuff marks on the top of lid but it didn't bother us & I figure that there will be a few more by the time were done with it.The lid with the filter has to be working (no smells) & better yet NO Fruit Flies! We have been experiencing warmer weather for this time of year & before this baby arrived guess what, yep, fruit flies.Last but not least & actually my favorite thing! The handle! I have a special needs grandson & this is his job to take the compost out. He had no problems like in the past. The buckets would tear or cave in dropping their contents. Which would only frustrate our young man. Problem solved Thanks so much,Mawithhope in OhioUpdate 2/15/16. Still holding up great! No rusting & handle still attached and still able to clean original filters I can't say enough about this product & how helpful & so much better than using an old ice cream container. 5Risk for cutsWhile this product is sturdy, big enough, and hopefully will last a long time, I cut my fingertips on razor sharp edges on the inside of the lid while washing it out. It would be helpful if this product came with a warning, basic user info, and some advice on the carbon filters. These cuts are very thin & very deep, I don t want anyone else to have this hapoen to them. 1Charcoal filter masks well the stench of decomposing produce and rotten dreamsI bought this counter-top compost bin for my girlfriend as her old one had started leaking. Delivery was prompt, and I took it over to her place one beautiful Sunday afternoon in the spring. We sat on the veranda and sipped chardonnay in what I then incorrectly interpreted as a comfortable silence. After a while I mentioned that I had a small surprise for her, and pulled the compost bin out of the box.It was elegant in its simplicity. The stainless steel finish shone in the sun, and the lid was cocked rakishly to one side as if to say hello. She slapped the bin from my hands and shouted that she didn't WANT this new compost bin...she wanted the compost bin that she'd had for years prior, the one that was spontaneous and made her feel alive, the one that she actually loved.I was heartbroken as my hopes and dreams of our life together shattered and fell around me. Gone were the thoughts of using the bin as an impromptu ice bucket for the champagne we would share on the night of our engagement; as too were the thoughts of our future children placing orange rinds and banana peels in this bin...only to be a mere fantasy never to see the light of day. I clumsily used my foot to sweep the remains of my heart and soul into a pile, and then I picked them up with numb fingers and placed them in the compost bin. Wow, for being unobtrusive and small, its 1.3 gallon capacity sure can hold a lot. The lid fit snugly on top, and has remained there to this day.Months later, the bin sits on the counter-top of my one-room studio apartment. One cannot tell what the contents that rot inside. There is no trace or scent of the putrid remains of my life, my hope, my heart that lay inside. Four out of five stars because the handle could be just a bit sturdier. Would definitely buy again. 4This is a five star product--except for some aspects of the lid's design. The lid of this product appears to be comprised of two parts, which are permanently joined by spot welds or by some other means. The product would be five stars if two changes were made to the lid.We should be able to separate the top/exterior part of the lid, from the bottom/interior part of the lid. If we were able to easily separate the lid into its two parts, we would be able to replace/inspect the filters more easily and the filters could be made a little larger so that they would fit more snugly. As the lid is now designed, the main filter cannot be inspected/replaced without damaging/deforming it--and causing a situation where even more fruit flies are able to enter the main bin. Of course, the potential for customers having problem with fruit flies while using this bin would be greatly reduced if the inside of the lid incorporated a fine-mesh metal screen, covering the large holes at the top of the lid. A fine-mesh screen would prevent fruit flies from entering through the large holes at the top of the lid and making their way down into the bin. So, I m suggesting that the manufacturer: 1. Install a fine mesh screen on the inside of the lid, covering the large holes at the top of the lid. 2. Redesign the lid slightly so that the lid may be separated into its two component parts, so that the filters may be removed/replaced/inspected more easily. I am updating this review after using the Epica Compost Bin for a few months. Fruit flies are a serious problem with this product. They are able to enter the large ventilation holes at the top of the lid and easily navigate around the filters, and into the composting materials below. This product desperately needs a fine-mesh screen, on the inside of the lid, to cover the holes at the top of the lid. 3GLAD I BOUGHT THIS ONE INSTEAD OF OTHERS!I am a veteran composter, and it has long been a seriously stinky and messy dilemma. I finally went online and actually researched various kitchentop composters. This one won out, and I got it. I'm so happy I did! I eat primarily raw fruits & vegetables, and for me, it holds about three days' worth of scraps. For most people, it will hold more. I've had it about a month now. It doesn't smell, and the fruit flies are not able to access the scraps--hooray! The top is quite secure. It's super easy to clean, and it looks quite nice on the kitchen counter, next to the cutting board. One thing that is extremely important to me these days is to support small USA-based businesses rather than saving a couple of dollars and buying something made in China. (Imagine what it would do for economy if we all tried to buy only USA-made products!) This is a really great product that fills a need. Thanks, Epica! 5Solid standard bin... with a questionably designed lid. While this bin is perfectly well made - solid construction, no seams, lid that fits relatively well... it has a fatal flaw. The lid is supposed to open up to allow you to replace the charcoal filters inside. I know this because the description of the product says "COMES WITH REPLACEABLE CHARCOAL FILTER" (note the use of the word "replacable").Alas, the lid is welded shut. There's no way to open it up to get the filter out. So it's a great compost bin for 2 to 4 months... and then it's useless as a compost bin. :-((Oh, I ordered a second bin just in case this was an anomaly but the second one is exactly the same.)UPDATE: so I got an email from the seller. The inform me that the lid is not supposed to open -- that somehow you're supposed to pull the 8" diameter filter out the 6" diameter hole in the bottom of the lid. I haven't tried this yet because I've only had it a few weeks so it's not time to replace the filter. Bottom line, updating my review from 1 star to 3 stars. Will try to remember to update again after I go through the replacement process. 3This bin is great, unlike some of the reviewers here.I have zero complaints about this compost bin, for which reason I am giving it five stars, because that's how Amazon reviews work. However, based a couple of reviews that I'm reading now, I'm guessing that the main reason I'm pleased with this bin (apart from the fact that it performs its intended function perfectly well) is that I actually understand what a compost bin is and what composting involves. Here are some pointers, in case you are new to this:1. A compost bin is basically just a pot with a lid on it. If you are going to order this thing and then find yourself shocked when you receive what is basically just a pot with a lid on it in the mail (despite the numerous images on this page that clearly show what is basically a pot with a lid on it), then please just go buy a pot and save yourself the trouble of posting a really stupid review on Amazon that blames the product for the fact that you didn't realize what a compost bin was.2. Composting involves taking your food scraps that would *otherwise be trash* and keeping them in a bucket (or a pot with a lid on it) in your kitchen. For this reason, it will *get dirty*, just like the rest of the items in your kitchen that come in contact with food. You will often have to *wipe it down* to remove the residue of whatever you put in it, *just like everything else in your kitchen*. Don't let the term "compost bin" fool you into thinking that this product has the magical ability to self-clean. Remember that this is basically just a pot with a lid on it.3. Here's the thing about food scraps: they break down over time. They even break down a bit over the course of a few days. Another word for this breakdown process is "rotting". THIS IS WHY WE COMPOST THEM. If you leave your compost sitting on your counter for a week at a time, *it will start to smell*. DO NOT BLAME THE BIN - get off your lazy rump and go empty the dang thing. Would you keep your trash for a week if it was full of rotting food? NO. Honestly, a bin that will hold a week's worth of scraps isn't a good thing. A compost bin is not a panacea for all compost-related unpleasantness. If you don't want your food scraps smelling on your countertop, but you also refuse to walk allllll the way to your compost bin more than once a week, then maybe composting isn't for you. Which is fine, just don't leave a three star review on Amazon once you figure that out.-Okay, done snarking. Here's what I like about this bin:*It looks good on the countertop*It has a carrying handle, unlike your average pot with a lid on it*It is well-proportioned - tall enough to hold a good amount of stuff without having a huge footprint on the countertop, but not so tall that it tips over*I've had little to no problem with fruit flies, presumably because I have been careful to only remove the lid when I am putting stuff in the bin*It cleans easily*It is durable and unbreakableBasically, it does everything a compost bin should do, assuming you do not have ridiculous, uninformed, and mutually-incompatible expectations for how it will function. 5
