Customer Reviews

Not like the farberware of old I have been a farberware fan for decades. I have my grandmothers that I have been using since I inherited a set from her in 1980. I bought this to expand my collection and sadly the steel is noticeably thinner. It still works but I am wondering if it will last like my vintage farberware has. It is sad that some higher up thought that they could make more money and skimp on the level of quality, not pass that higher profit margin on to their employees but probably pay the CEO more money so he can get a bigger boat. I could go on about this being a recurring theme in most products made nowadays but I digress. 4I am very happy with this pan I replaced a double boiler I got from my mom, and it was a wedding present to her and daddy, My parents would be 99 years old now? I have used it since 1967~! It is well used.~! So I replaced it with this double boiler~! I am very happy with this pan, and its the exact same size as the "old" one~! Jill Murdock 5NOT 2 Quarts Farberware Classic Stainless Series 2-Quart Covered Double BoilerThis is a very nice double boiler if you're cooking a 1 quart quantity or less. The upper cooking portion of this holds 40 liquid ounces to the brim before over-flowing, making it a maximum of a 32 ounce cooking capacity. This is NOT a 2 quart double boilerNot sure why it's labeled in a misleading way, it's even misleading on the Farberware website. If you need a 2 quart capacity, try the T-fal B1399663 3Farberware - Quality down the drain. Have an old Farberware double boiler that was my grams, still kicking strong and I was in great need of a second. So when I saw this double boiler ... I was sold! The price was good, and I was hoping the same quality of the two double boilers (1950s version vs this (present)). For the price I expected the top notch quality that Farberware normally gives.Totally disappointed ... I've used the boiler maybe 6 times, the bottom pan inside is already starting to turn from the water. Both handles are extremely lose and cheap; and "IF" you aren't CAREFULL the angle of the handles can very easily slip from your grip. This is the second Farberware product that I have purchased in the last month that my trust in the company has gone down the shyte-hole. I purchased a Farberware knife that snapped on me while cutting room-temp chocolate bark. 3Good Double Boiler I was unsure when I purchased it how much the upper portion could hold. I wasn't sure if the 2 qt was the section for the water down below and indeed that is the case. There is more space above than it appears because it sits down in the lower pot. I can fit 5 cups of liquid in the top but it can't be stirred without risk of spilling it outside. If you are purchasing it as a separate pot that functions as a double boiler than it can be great. In hindsight, it might have been a wiser purchase to get one of them that has a steamer section as well so it could function triple duty. It is sturdy and shiny and does its job well. 4Not as good a weight as older Farberware pots As advertised, a nicely made stainless steel pot -- well-rolled edges give you drip-free pouring, too, which I find missing in even some very expensive brands! So far I've used this to infuse honey with herbs, but nothing else yet.The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the thickness of the metal is not what Farberware used to be; I have a 1.5 quart Farberware pot which I keep even though the handle came off years ago, because it's a wonderful little pot to make rice, heat soups, etc. -- have had it now for at least 30 years. At that time, there were no extra clad bottoms, so the new ones are good for that. However, I'm disappointed at the lightweight quality of the rest of the pot (weight comes from the extra cladding on the bottom). Looks like it will dent easily. Also, I'm partial to metal handles, and apparently Farberware continues to use the phenolic, which are far less durable. However, at less than $30, this is an excellent double boiler and just right size for my cooking. I only doubt it will last as long as my other double boiler did.I saw somewhere a complaint that the upper pot can't be used as a separate pot. In my experience, I've never seen or had a double boiler top pot that was suitable for separate cooking on the stove. If someone knows of one, I'd like to know of it!UPDATE 7/22/14: Changed to a 3-star rating. Problem encountered while drying the lower pot, a sharp metal edge of the attached handle where it joins the pot grabbed my kitchen towel and damaged it. I called Amazon, and they immediately sent an exchange -- which I found also (!) had the same problem, although in a slightly different spot. I took out a small hammer and placed a piece of cloth over the spot, lightly hammering it until the point seemed almost eliminated. I'm hoping it is. Now using it, waiting to see if the problem is really gone. What's clear, though, is the quality control on this product isn't at all what I'd expect from Farberware. 3The larger of the two pans arrived with a loose ... The larger of the two pans arrived with a loose handle that could not be tightened and my attempts to reach their customer service department failed. I do not feel the pan is safe to use. 1Disappointed!! Unfortunately had to return this! Easy return though- wasn t expecting it to be so small! Couldn t make much in this, was buying it as a gift for cooking, not crafting! 1Dont waste your money. Cookware flacked metal after one use Farberware is not what it used to be. They are sending a replacement but don't know how it will hold up. I had the last set of Farberware for 50 years with no problems. 1Hard to find item My sister wanted a double boiler for years but she wanted a Farberware one because of its excellent quality. Amazon.com came through again. The price was right and the seller excellent. If you ever melted chocolate for a sauce or made a hot cereal like cream of wheat with mixed fruit, coconut, milk, and cinnamon in it, a double boiler is a kitchen essential. No burning or scorching, especially of milk, unless you let the water evaporate completely (my mother is an anticook and has killed many pans in her lifetime). If you want a double boiler or know someone who wants one or you have a mother who is cooking challenged but insists on trying anyway, this is the perfect gift. 5
