Best Pruners Made I gave these pruners to my aging mom who is developing terrible arthritis in the hands. I too, have arthritis. I finally got a chance to try these out for myself when I helped prune trees a day ago this spring (2014). When we were done pruning the trees themselves, I used these to further cut up the branches for firewood this summer. I got to use them for about an hour straight and I really recommend the model #7 with the rotating handle over standard fixed handles. It helps to lessen the pain a lot over time.Besides the handles, the pruners are made very well, typical of anything Felco or Swiss in general. I like that all the parts are replaceable. I also like how easily they cut, even when cutting hard fruit woods or dry wood. Even if you can't quite cut through a very large branch, you can twist the pruners in relation to the branch as you bare down with pressure and they will slice right through!I highly recommend these pruners to anyone looking. If you chose them you will thank me! 5Best Clippers for Arthritis The only clippers my grandmother, riddled with arthritis, can use. While a small change such as the rotating handle seems trivial, this alteration makes a world of difference for someone with any sort of hand pain or who tends to use their clippers a lot and would like to avoid hand pain. The company overall is fantastic too, because each and every part on this investment is replaceable and fixable with your own two hands. 5The best gardening tool The best gardening tool. Ergonomically fits your hand, the blades are sharp and substantial and makes trimming effortless. Am careful to clean it afterwards and I sharpen it regularly to maximize it's performance.Excellent tool, I have bought several in eluding a lopper by Felco. If you are a serious gardener consider buying the Felco line of tools, you'll be happy you did.It is the best quality of its kind. Highly recommended. 5For those with large strong hands I love Felco products usually, but the Felco 7 is designed for a large hand, something the packaging indicates, but the Amazon description does not. The pruner puts a lot of strain on my medium-sized wrist and actually hurts to use. It also seems unbalanced. One more thing: that attractive holder suitable for storage mentioned in the description is simply an open plastic tray. The tray does come with a small device for adjusting the pruners. Do try Felco, but perhaps not this particular product. 3The very best in pain-free pruning! A life-saver for your wrists! I've owned this for over 5 years now. I chose Felco over other brands at the recommendation of Tom Burford, also known as "Professor Apple", who is a world-renowned author and authoritative expert on heirloom apple variety identification. He is also the author of the following excellent book on American apple varieties: Apples of North America: Exceptional Varieties for Gardeners, Growers, and CooksMy main reason for choosing these pruners was comfort. And I have not regretted my choice. Most other pruners cause me pain in my wrists that can last quite some time, but the rotating handle really helps to absorb the impact that otherwise you would be absorbing.I highly recommend disinfecting them in between in each tree so as to avoid spreading potential pathogens or disease (Mr. Burford also mentioned this). I have chemical sensitivities so I use grain alcohol diluted with water (approximately 50/50, or roughly 45-50% alcohol) and that has been shown to kill virtually all bacteria, viruses and molds. (I carry a bunch of paper towels, a trash bag and a small plastic spray bottle with the alcohol solution when I'm out pruning.) But regardless of what you use, disinfecting before you move on to the next tree is really a prudent precaution as you have already invested time and money in each tree and disease-causing organisms can be spread so easily as it is without having to be caused by negligence. Pruning is like surgery for a tree, so it is a shame that this step is often overlooked. The blades have held sharp through the years, I have not had any need to resharpen them yet. We have several fruit trees that get pruned more than twice a year, and they have grown quite a bit in the past 5 years so I've used them quite a bit and I am still completely delighted with these pruners! Their super ergonomic and fit like a glove. I have U.S. Men's Size: Small/Medium Hands and they're the perfect size regardless of what Felco's website and their packaging states. I found the F7's to be better suited for my needs then the F8. Regardless if you're young or old and if you've beaten up your wrist and hands over the years the F7's are definitely the way to go, they power through thicker branches with less effort then the F8s. They're all metal components and parts no plastic parts besides for the plastic and rubber stoppers and the comfortable red rubber rotating handle which makes using them a total pleasure. I admit I was leery of getting the pruners with the rotating handle after using a pair of cheaper Fiskers with the same option. This superior ergonomic design is next level and believe it or not it the rotating handle was designed in the 60s. In my opinion these are the best designed, engineered and made pruners on the market. The Swiss, Germans and us Americans make the best hand-tools out there. I love that you can get all genuine Felco replacement parts for this hand-tool. I recommend getting the Felco 910+ Leather Holster to protect these beautiful pruners. Thanks Pruner Warehouse for stocking and selling the 910+ Leather Holster, but please sell it on Amazon. The only other pruners I would have purchased were the Leatherman: Genius Pruners - but they were retired unfortunately, I hope they bring them back. 5Fabulous Pruner--easy to use I'll never go back to a regular pruner. Until this year I have never had to do a lot of hand pruning, so this is the first serious pair of pruners I have owned. Maybe if I were used to a regular version this would have been harder to adjust to. As it is, I took the F-7 out of the package and pruned for 3 hours straight. No blisters, no hand fatigue, plenty of leverage in the blades. I can't imagine using any other model! The swivel gave me pause for the first couple of cuts, and then it just felt natural; the swivel handle moves effortlessly with the natural movement of your hands and wrist. It comes apart easily for cleaning and oiling, and replacement parts are readily available if needed.I have read comments that the grip is too big; I wear a women's size 8 glove and it's very comfortable for me.I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase. 5this is still my least favorite, least used pruner purchased in 2011, this is still my least favorite, least used pruner. No complaints regarding the construction. The swivel handle is simply too awkward for me to use repeatedly while pruning nursery stock. i find myself always having to adjust the swivel handle to fit into my hand. 2These pruners cut well and work pretty well, but the rotating handle always seems to ... These pruners cut well and work pretty well, but the rotating handle always seems to slide off, and become disconnected from the metal. When you do as much pruning as I do as a professional then this problem becomes a big hassle, especially when you consider the cost difference. 3Received knock off product! Received a knock off version of Felco 7s. Didn t realize it until I heard there were knock offs sold on Amazon recently and I compared my pair to others that were definitely legitimate. Wish I had realized this earlier so I could return my fake ones. BUYER BEWARE!!For those wondering, legitimate Felco 7s will not have Phillips head screws holding them together and the anvil (rather than the blade) will be two tone. There are also differences in the latch that holds them closed, in the metal of the blades, and in the color and plastic on the handles. 1
