GE is the best, I tried the others
I bought the GE, DuPont and Culligan so I could compare them and decide on one to get all the time. The GE FXHSC is about twice the quality of the other two, they use about double the filter paper and the quality of construction is noticeably better.
5The water tastes great, but has a high iron content
We recently built a new house and have a well. The water tastes great, but has a high iron content. My wife is a cleaning fanatic and our toilets would be orange in about 3 days. Of course, this drove her insane. I checked online reviews and the GE whole house filter scored very high for a moderate price. Our toilets now stay very clean. The filter says to replace every 3 months or 30,000 gallons. It is just my wife and I and I have put in all low flow faucets, toilets, and front load washer. I just replaced the filter after 6 months, as we were beginning to see a slight pressure drop. Our water seems to create a slimy orange film if not filtered. Filter took care of this problem.
5GE FXHSC whole house high flow sediment water filter, size interchanges with Sears 42-34379.
High flow, whole house water system replacement sediment filter. 4.4500" X 9.7500" - 1.0500" hole. Made in Mexico, 3 month life, off-white paper filter, 30 micron filter. By measurements, this filter will interchange with the $45 Sears filter 42-34379. However, the Sears filter is made in US, states a 4-6 month life, bleached white paper filter. Both are 30 micron filters. Besides paper color, visually, the filters appear to be the same. I can't say why GE is 3 months and Sears is 4-6 months. If true, savings replacing the GE filters 4 times a year won't be very much, compared to 2 times a year for Sears.
5I use these filters to mostly remove the iron deposits ...
I use these filters to mostly remove the iron deposits that come from our well. After using $10.00 filters made in china that I bought at Wally World, I discovered their is a difference. Less pleats=less filtration=less life. They can attempt to copy but usually China stuff is not up to par.As usual you get what you pay for. Charles
5Maybe we just got a bad one??
We've ordered this filter a few times and it worked wonderfully filtering out all sediment and the terrible chlorine taste. The last one must have been bad or something, though, because it doesn't filter chlorine at all. We installed it and gave it a week or so to see if it would work itself out, but its just terrible. Had to go back to the Brita filter for drinking water and short showers for dry skin reasons.
2Nice whole house filter
We have this as a whole house filter because we have a well. It works well and we've never had any issues with our water. I was a bit surprised to see how dirty the filter gets after a few months so will probably have to start changing it more frequently. Wish they were cheaper but the build quality feeds good and sturdy.
5Great to filter out water main particles.
Works fine, no issues installing. I picked this filter because I just wanted to filter any big particles coming into my house from the city water (like when they do work on the street pipes and knock junk free in the lines.) I think using this filter helps my wash machine, refrigerator water, dishwasher, etc. from getting dirt particles that can mess up the electric water valves. Best price I have found for this filter. I only replace the filter once a year. Looking at the used filter, that is soon enough for my water.
5I run this in conjuction with a FXHTC filter and am happy with the results!
What started as a project to replace a dated water softener lead to monster feature-creep. Now that it's all done, I'm happy to be able to report back with almost 24 months of usage of this filter (and it's peer, the FXHTC) under my belt with no issues. In my case I replace it less frequently than some due to water conservation efforts (see above, re: feature-creep). It does a good job removing the sediment that my well pump occasionally sends down the pipe. The only other thing I have seen regarding this filter is ants. Yes, ants. Somehow they've gotten in the line 3-4 times in those 2 years I've been using it. Who knows what all was in there before when there was no filter???
5product has changed.
This WAS the best filter, and I have tried many other. However they went and changed the product. What used to last us 3 months now only last us 1.
3Low cost, easy filter system, works as advertised. Will buy again
does what its supposed to do, take the big chunks of sediment out of my well water. I have my well water go through this first in a 10" x 4.5" GE filter cartridge, then 2nd into a 10/5/3micron 10"x4.5" filter, then 3rd into a 10"x2" carbon filter to take any smell or taste issues out. This is a low cost solution to seriously improve my extremely hard well water. I change the filters out every three months and they work well.FYI - I also use a NUVO Whole House chelation filter 4th in the filter series to try to reduce the iron after all the filters. The jury is still out on that filter's effectiveness.
