Rust spots after 3 weeks.I've been using these knives for 3 weeks, and they've already developed rust spots. I hand wash and dry them after use, but this doesn't seem to help. The knives themselves work great, are very sharp, but for the price (and the "stainless steel" claim), I would expect them to hold up longer. We tried using barkeepers friend on the effected areas, but this didn't work. Save your money and buy cheap knives, or spend some real money and go for the best. These are not a good middle of the road option. 1DON'T BUY THESE!These were absolutely awful. My first order came and it appeared that it was a returned set. The knives were in an unsealed box inside of the shipping box, each was wrapped lazily in different wrappings. The block looked like a 3 year old glued it together, the craftsmanship was horrible. The knives did appear sharp, but dirty. Then my husband noticed that only the bread knife had the logo printed on the end, and that one knife had a smeared faded logo. The rest were unmarked, though the photos on amazon show logo labeled knives. We returned the knives. Our next set was no better, and may have been worse. Both went back and we will not be purchasing again. 1Not like they used to be.Friend has the smaller set from years ago and they look, feel and cut great. Was excited to receive this set but alas, it s a piece of excrement. Two knives are missing the logo, the wood block looks and feels cheap. Not to mention it has glue and wood blubbling and sticking out all over the place. Knives are DULLLLLLL. Drags them across my fingers and hands and nothing. If I do that with my calphalon I d be in the ER. Save yourself time and money and skip these. I got the Calphalon Precisiok series and love them. 1A Value, considering similar quality knifes from other companies would cost around 300 dollars per knife. While most sets of knifes from Ginsu leave something to be desired, this set is the exception. Not only is the price great compared to similar sets, but all the knifes meet most Chefs critera:-Full tang, as in the the metal extends all the way into the handle-High Carbon Stainless Steel, so it's both rust resistant, and is easier to sharpen/maintain an edge-the blades are made of a thick, folded metal, as apposed to thin flimsy blades that are Stamped out of a thin sheet of metal-All blades have a bolster, which reinforces the blade at the top of the handle-and finally, a pet peeve of mine which this passes, the cutting edge is sharpened on both sides like v (not a perfect v but like a thin u)as apposed to |/ or \| (I'm not sure this matters though, since even the most expensive knives sometimes don't have this detail). One thing I did struggle with was the Serrated utility knife, which had an odd serrated edge unlike the normal ^^^^^^^ or upside down uuuuuuuu. Also the scissors were no where near the quality of the Knifes and the honing rod doesn't really hone all that well.Note that the blades are Handwash only, and should be immeidiatly dried and honed after each use (with the exception of the serrated knife, since serrated knifes don't AND SHOULDN'T be honed). Now these knifes can't compete with wusthof or henckle 300+ dollar knifes, but considering that your getting a whole set that is only one tier below, for around 100-120 dollars, you should question whether you need to shell out for those German brands (or some of their Japanese counterparts). Note this is the ONLY set of knifes with this level of quality from Ginsu (as in the Chikara series) that I would recommend 4when I got to cleaning the knives I noticed that two of them had bad nicks up and down the bladesMy wife order these knives, when we received them I opened them up but never took a look at them. my wife just use them for the first time and it was my job to clean up the dishes. when I got to cleaning the knives I noticed that two of them had bad nicks up and down the blades. we are very good with our knives, we have a cheap set from Sams Club that is still in perfect condition after a year. the secret is never mix your dirty knives with other knives or metal in the sink. we keep our nice separate from each other and anything else so nothing dulls or nocks the blades. when I inspected the blades I found two of them extremely damaged with nicks. we did not do that for sure, it really looks like maybe somebody return those knives and they were result to us as a new product. needless to say the quality aspect of it is very upsetting, the nice look like they're very good quality except they were damaged and manufacture or we were sold a used item. I'm going to ask Amazon to replace them and see if the issue is resolved. 1Ginsu - rated best buy by Consumer ReportsThese knives are sharp! They are balanced well and the round grip works fine. I like the variety of knives in the set -- I have used the chefs knife for chopping, the Santoku for slicing, the paring knife for peeling and hand-cutting things like broccoli. The scissors are super sharp and cut through anything, even splitting a chicken. The scissors actually cut better than two other pairs of "kitchen scissors" I have, I think due to where the hinge is and how tight the two sides are held together. The two 'middle' knives I have not used as much -- one is a smooth blade and one is serrated. I think the serrated one would be great for slicing tomatoes and crusty bread, although it's too short to be called a "bread knife."The bamboo block is OK -- I don't really like storing knives in a block though. I will get a magnetic holder that I can mount on the wall instead. The steel used can be stained by chemicals or rust, if left wet for a long time. I hand-wash them after use, dry and then put away. I would not run them through the dishwasher. 5Excellent product, but can't communicate with the seller.I purchased two sets of these. The first set has performed perfectly for 2 years. I follow the care and maintenance instructions, and they hold an edge very nicely. The second set, purchase a year later, works just as well. But the first time the small play nice was dropped on the kitchen floor, the handle broke. I can find nowhere and no way to communicate with the seller about this, to find if I can replace it somehow. I would even pay for a new one if they won't do anything about it, but I can't reach anyone about this. The review would be five stars except for this. 3AMAZING SETI bought these for my mother as a gift since i noticed that her cheap knives were making her struggle with some of her cooking since they are not the proper weight or cant be sharpen any sharper then they already are. After doing a very serious research on some good quality knife sets, all the reviews and articles ive gone through would always point or talk about this set, being under the 100$ price tag, its an amazing deal for high quality product. So being the loving son that I am, I decided to trust these reviewers and bought these for my mom.FIRST OFFWhen you open the box it comes in, ALL of the knives are properly packaged individually. The block that it comes with is stunning and gives your kitchen a +1 in design points.Apperantly all knives came already sharp and ready to use!The weight of these knives feels amazing, it feels like your holding a 100$+ set of knives.PERFORMANCEAMAZING! I REPEAT, FOR UNDER 100$, these knives work amazingly well! This coming from the chef herself (my mother), these are the best knives she ever worked with, they cut flawlessly, and when she usually has to either put more power in cutting is now a thing of the past. The design on these are also another +, the handles are not glued or bolted to the knife as far as i can tell, it feels like 1 complete piece. So far no problem with cleaning, because there are some knives out there that either the handles can fill up with water or something like that but with these, again it feels like its 1 complete piece of forged steel.FOR UNDER 100$, its the best deal for a high quality set. 4Sharp knifesSo far so good! I read a lot of reviews and people are stating that their knifes have broke or have stains. These are my babies and I have owned Ginsu products in the passed and upgraded to these beauties. I hand wash them (which is what it states to do) and they are super sharp! 5Best Knives Ever! These are by far the best knives I have ever owned and I have owned sets that cost 3 times as much. I was worried about the quality because of the Ginsu name and so far I'm very impressed. Have had them now for several months and have not had to sharpen the knives at all....they stay very sharp The wife loves them. If your like me....someone that just wants a quality product at a good price then get these knives. Unless you plan on spending thousands on kitchen knives (because that's what it would take to improve over these) with these you can't go wrong. We had a house fire and lost everything and these knives were by far our best replacement purchase. A major upgrade from the $300.00 set of Hinkles we had. They stay sharp! 5
