Perfect for our chicken!!
We bought this to cook our whole chicken in and it was perfect! It then made the best stock we ever tasted! Now that there are only the two of us we need smaller cooking pots, so we bought this and it is great. The chicken browned perfect but the stock we made after is the best we ever tasted. Just so tasty and delicious the way it cooked in this pot! Best buy we ever made!
5Perfect size and shape for my round convection oven
I love granite ware and I love this pot. It fits nicely inside my round glass convection oven, sans lid. I have used a granite ware pie pan for a lid and it works in my oven.I love how lightweight granite ware is. It is safe for cooking and with reasonable care will outlast most people. It s easy to clean and care for. This is a nice size for roasting and for making smaller amounts of soup and things. These can also be used in solar cookers and ovens.Mine arrived in excellent condition without flaws. Very happy with mine.
5Great for Bread Baking!
I use this for baking bread (boules) and have been very satisfied with it. The lid seals well to trap steam and it is much, much lighter in weight than a cast-iron Dutch oven.An 8" round pizza stone fits in it perfectly. I dust the stone with corn meal prior to baking and my loaves never stick. I also spray the inside of the lid with water for a little extra steam.
5Four Stars
It's a very small Dutch oven but it's well made. Its only for meals for one or two people.
4You can't go wrong with this roaster!
Some years ago I went to a friend's house for dinner and had some lovely beef. I asked her how she got it so tender and it turned out this roaster is the answer. Since then I will only use this roaster to slow cook any larger pieces of meat or fish. I put some water or stock in, add the meat and cook it in the oven on low heat (300) for 2-3 hours. It always comes out super tender and delicious. Once I have taken the meat out I put the roaster onto the stove and make gravy from the juices. Perfect! I wouldn't cook a roast any other way.

Excellent! I bought it to use in a solar cooker, and it is perfect!
5good roaster, made in Mexico
I bought this roaster for use in a solar oven. I haven't actually used it in the solar oven, but I have roasted a couple of chickens with it in a regular oven and they turned out great. Some of the other reviews mentioned that it was made in Mexico. The product website, the Amazon pictures and product description all say made in USA. However, the roaster showed up with a similar sticker to what is shown in the picture. The only difference was that a made in Mexico logo replaced the made in USA logo. For this false advertising, I deducted one star. The lid fits reasonably well, but it is not a perfect seal. There are dimples on the top, not holes. I was expecting holes from the picture, but I actually prefer it this way.
4Perfect for a smaller oven, a single chicken, or side dishes.
I have a Cuisinart convection/toaster oven that 's big enough for a half lasagna pan, so just right to do some real cooking for one or two people without using my main oven, or for side dishes if I am cooking a big meal for company. I have been using a smaller, oval granite ware roaster that my mother gave me, which might be as old as I am. I have been searching for another similarly sized one for years. This roasting pan is just the right size for a single chicken or small roast and fits within my toaster oven (without the lid). I especially like the rim as that means I can easily pull it out of the small oven. It also cost far less than the bigger pans in the grocery store.
5Not Made in USA
Item description shows Made in USA. Upon receipt of this item, it clearly shows item is Made in Mexico. The color and finish differ greatly when compared with Granite Wear Made in USA. The Granite Wear round roaster I received (Made in Mexico) shows large runs and drips on both the inside and outside of roaster.
1Manufacturer needs quality control
I was very hopeful about this roaster, but both of the ones that were sent to me had missing enamel on the handle, which seemed to be a guarantee of future rust. One also had a gouge in the enamel inside the pot. Because the roaster is packaged with the cover inverted into the body of the roaster, then banded with shrink plastic, there is no way for a packer to know if the roaster has defects on the top of the cover or its interior; this is a manufacturer issue.
