Customer Reviews

Great value! I have owned the pressure cooker for over two years. I paid around $65. You will be hard pressed to find a pressure cooker of this size for the price. I use the pressure cooker about twice a month for pressure canning. The only draw back is that it will not work on induction stoves. Every once in a while I have to tighten the handles using a Phillip screwdriver. 5Nice volume, easy to use I have now used this as a pressure cooker for making chicken stock, and for canning pints and quarts, and I love it. Using it as a giant pressure cooker was marvelous for reducing the amount of simmering time needed. I learned that it needs about 4.5 inches of clearance between the top of the liquid and the top of the vessel, or the contents come up through the pressure relief valve, and there is the risk of it getting clogged. I found it easier to use and more intuitive than the old Mirro pressure cooker that I learned with. The meat that I canned came out tender and flavorful, and the stock is rich and delicious. I have recommended this canner to a couple of friends, and would buy it again. 5Be prepared at all times First time using a pressure canner and I love it!! So far I have done 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce with meat and just finished up 14 quarts of beef vegetable soup. I used to freeze all of these things but what good will that do if we lose power for any length of time?! Chili is next on my list!! 5'Rusted' lid? It's the jiggler's fault! Some people have complained of the lid rusting; this is probably not true. The rust-discoloration is the fault of the jiggler. Even with extreme care the metal wire inside used to 'clip' it to the steam pipe rusts and makes everything look terrible. I had this happen with two regulators so it's not an isolated problem. The rack should be thrown out as the coating sheds and will leave rust marks. The safety valve on one unit was improperly seated and leaked, making it take forever to pressurize. Once it was reseated it worked fine. It's a functional canner but it has several serious design flaws. If you don't care about getting discoloration on your lid and can adjust the valves (if necessary) it's fine. I just wish they'd used a better metal for the jiggler spring! That's more irritating than having to unscrew and reseat valves, it's going to vomit rust-water all over itself forever and there's nothing I can do to fix it! If there's a compatible replacement jiggler made with decent materials I'd love that, but I'm not sure that exists. 3Thus far we are very pleased with the canner We've never owned or used a pressure canner before, so we were a little in the dark, relying on customer reviews to make this purchase. Thus far we are very pleased with the canner, which presently is processing our 12th through 16th quarts of green beans from the garden. The simple weighted rocker system (familiar to us thanks to a previously-owned pressure cooker (not canner), works perfectly. It operates nicely on our electric GE range's glass cooktop, on the "power boil" burner, in spite of a warning in the manual that it might not work. The simple manual is concise and easy to understand, and the unit is very sturdy. We look forward to many more years of service from it. 5Affordable, well made canner. While searching for a pressure canner/cooker I came across this product. After reading the glowing reviews and shopping around for price I decided to make the purchase. This large pressure cooker fits 7 quart jars, 8 pint jars or 24 half-pint jars at a time and is made of anodized aluminum. Aluminum is a non ferrous metal so it will not work on an induction cooktop. I have no issues using it on my gas stove in my apartment and it heats up quickly. The canner comes with a rack to hold jars, a rack for steaming, and a 3 piece rocker pressure valve. The simple weighted pressure valve avoids the ever troublesome pressure gauge (which needs to be calibrated yearly) and means that this canner is actually affordable. The valve allows for the canner to operate at 5, 10, and 15 psi depending on how it is configured. The valve itself will achieve 5 psi and begin rocking back and forth when it reaches pressure. The pressure can be increased by adding one (10 psi) or two (15 psi) of the metal washers that are included. All in all I am very happy with this canner. Has been easy to use and clean and exceeded my expectations. If you found my review helpful, please do me a favor and take a second to click the "Helpful" button below. Thank you! 5Can't beat the price, great savings So far I've canned chicken, pork, beef, hamburger, bacon (yum), meatballs, pork-n-beans and other beans. Canning the meats helps me save valuable space in my freezer for other things. I wait til a store has a fantastic sale on meat, stock up on it then have a canning weekend. It does take some time. If you prep everything beforehand it helps A BUNCH! 5Not great I chose this over models with a gauge so I wouldn't have to have the gauge checked every canning season.I pressure canned a few batches of quarts with no incident. I processed the max number of quarts and had a jar explode. I though maybe it was just a bad jar and moved on. The next two batches of quarts I had to redo several times because the pressure regulator kept getting stuck and releasing pressure so I'd have to start over. I contacted the manufacturer and they said they were going to send me a replacement part to fix the sticking issue, but didn't tell me which one. What I ended up getting in the mail several weeks later was two weighted rings, not the vent pipe or the regulator itself.I found what appears to be the only source for replacement parts and ordered the regular (complete with weight rings) and vent pipe. The shipping is more than the five dollar, one ounce, vent pipe.I'm now saving up for an All American as those seem more reliable. 2I'm very pleased. This is my first pressure caner The instructions are very minimal and not many people are familiar with weighted pressure cookers, so help is hard to find. A couple of things: the part that holds the weight needs to be tightened every time or you'll never get the weight to rock which means it isn't up to pressure. The gasket has to be in the lid just so. It needs a very hot burner to get up to and stay at pressure. One last thing, the handles on the basket are awkward. The way they have to fold down to fit inside the caner makes jar placement a pain. Jars will lean and touch a little.Overall, I'm very pleased. This is my first pressure caner, so I'm still working the kinks out. But it does what it's supposed to do. 5Wonderful Small Canner! I LOVE this canner! I have a small home garden so needed a small canner to process my fresh vegetables. This is the perfect size. It is so light and easy to use. It builds pressure and depressurizes quickly. I have a large heavy canner which takes forever to cool down. I like too that the jars never touch the water. The required water level stops at the bottom of the rack where the jars rest. This canner allows for the three levels of pressure and I don't have to sit and watch a guage. I can do other things nearby and easily keep track of the correct pressure. It is a treat to use! 5
