Excellent quality cookware, but not recommended for electric stovetops Excellent quality, the handles are sufficiently large for such a heavy pan and the ceramic coating should last a lifetime. A word of caution, there is a maximum temperature that the entire Le Creuset line can take and it is possible to exceed that temp on an electric stovetop. Doing so will cause the ceramic to transfer from the bottom of the pan to the heating element. 4A Masterpiece If you dont know Le Creuset then thats fine, just stop reading. This is for discerning chefs who value the experience of cooking. What better way to invest in your kitchen then with this work of art. Why waste money on some bourgeois scribbling on canvas you hang on your wall when you can get this utilitarian work of art and hang it from your kitchen pot rack for all to admire. Cherry is the only way to go. Peace. 5Love cast iron! Love the heat retention of cast iron! I m new to cast iron but I ll never go back to any other way of cooking! We have a gas cooktop and always use low or medium low heat and everything turns out perfect with minimal sticking. It seemed odd to cook on low at first, but the pans truly hold the heat and disperse it pretty evenly. 5Silicone handle cover and white cleaning paste is definitely recommended. For pots we use bar keeper powder btw I'm a man. Few years ago I had purchased Le Creuset iron pots for soups. With 3 sizes I have all I needBut this pan is one of the most used items. It is not even close to being non stick (yes I wait until the pan is heated and use plenty of oil) and since you can't use metal on it so you lose a good portion of your food every time you cook. I had been using cast iron for years and only wanted to change as I got tired of having to season those pans regularly, and I splurged on le creuset because of the rave reviews. When I received it, I read that you can't use metal spatulas on it and the one plastic one we had wasn't working well, so I bought the le creuset silicon spatula, thinking that would solve the problem somehow. But, no, that was simply more money down the drain, as that is a floppy useless device. It is a nice looking pan, but it will serve as nothing more than an over-priced kitchen decoration in our house. I have never been so disappointed with something that has such a good reputation! And, I truly do not understand how anyone likes using this pan at all. Save yourself $170 and get a cast iron pan! 1Not all cast-iron are the same, beats Lodge hands down I was a Lodge cast iron guy. $30 pan, no nonsense, used it for all my cast iron needs for years. Even after I would season the pan, and work all my magic, I never got that magical cast iron pan that people would tell me about. Never have to use non-stick again, perfect for almost any job.I was reading a review about this pan, and couldn't believe the price. Who pays this much for a cast iron pan?Well, add me to the converts. First of all, it's gorgeous to look at. Love the enamel outside, in 'flame' coloring. It is easy to handle with a nice grip, and a good weight balance. The cast-iron itself is just smooth and beautiful. Super easy to clean (I bought the nylon brush by Le Creuset).I use it for all sorts of jobs, from searing steak, cooking pork chops or frying dover sole. For example, when I make my pork chops, I cook them 4 minutes either side in the pan, and then transfer the whole thing into the oven at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. This thing is beast mode. You can do almost anything with it.The price tag? I get it. Honestly, I wish it was cheaper, but it's like buying the Rolls Royce of skillets. I expect I will be using this for the next 30 years, as long as I maintain the seasoning. 5Not like the older Le Creuset I love Le Creuset, and own several pieces. Unfortunately my old pan like this fell off the counter and the handle broke... so I bought this.This one is NOT like the old one! Perhaps it's an Amazon version? Or maybe Le Creuset has changed their way of making this pan?? What's different is the cooking surface. The older version is very non-slip. But this one is not at all non-slip. For some reason this cooking-surface is porous and grippy, which causes everything to stick to it, which makes it so very hard to clean.I am very disappointed by this pan. For the money, this is not worth it. 1My Go-To Skillet I very nearly didn't buy this after reading several reviews saying everything stuck to the pan. I've now seared meat, sauteed veggies, and made a frittata in this pan with absolutely no problems and no sticking. It heats evenly and I doubt I'll rarely ever need to use it above med-low, given how well cast iron retains heat. Yes, you do need to heat the oil for a few minutes before you add in your meat or veggies and make sure your burner isn't up too high, but isn't that just cooking like usual? I honestly don't know how people are finding this pan to be too sticky, except to think that they're cranking up the heat too high. I expect decades of heavy use from this excellent pan! 5Who knew a pan could make her happy. It was a little bit expensive but it's the Cadillac of pans. Side note in an emergency it will make a helluva weapon. 5No disappointment Absolutely love the way this skillet cooks. Of course I am a big Le Crueset fan but still this pan met all of my expectations and is a dream to clean. One caveat - it doesn't have a lid to simmer something but I quickly found that a 12" glass lid from Bed Bath and Beyond soon fixed that small annoyance. 5
