Customer Reviews

overall im never impressed with anything like this, BUT MY GARAGE:I have a small 2 car "tuck under the house" garage....so it can be considered insulated, it is 18 X 18 with 8' ceilings, with insulated garage doors... I live in New England. With that said the space does get very cold anyhow....QUALITY:I build machines for a living, and me personally im old school on quality.....everything made in the USA during the 50's was built well.....needless to say those days are gone, overall im never impressed with anything like this, BUT....I will admit I was happy with the quality of this unit, just the right gauge thickness for the enclosure, mounting bracket was nice and sturdy, so on....It arrived in perfect working orderPRICE:I would have liked to see this unit just under the $200.00 mark, just my opinion....NOISE:It certainly is not a quiet, but you can carry a conversation with someone with out raising your voice if your standing near it...OVERALL:Clearly this unit is a bit more than I need for my size garage, but I picked it for that reason (you should never undersize) it will get the garage from 45 to 68 in less than half hour....then it cycles every 10 to 15 minutes for a few minutes....COST TO OPERATE:I have not seen the bill yet, but I have electric "spot" heaters in other areas of the house and have used electricity consumption calculators....it is estimated that this 5000 Watt unit running...say 2.5 hours a day (intermittent throughout the day) multiplied by your Kwh price...And here in New England we just got slammed with an electrical price hike...but I shop around for best rates5000 Watt X 2.5 hours use X .1199Kwh = (about 1.50 a day/$48 a month) well worth it to me, my garage is my shop... 4Got the job done By the size of it, you'd think it was a toy. I was wrong. It heated a #2 car, non-insulated and drafty, garage with high ceilings in 0 degree weather. My goal was to keep the plumbing in the garage thawed and it accomplished this and more. Easy install too. 5Nice Unit I wired this heater up in a two car garage to be able to do some woodworking in the colder months last winter. If you have some basic electrical knowledge, this is easy to install. I ran a new, dedicated line from my fuse box. It works much better than I thought! My garage is not well insulated but I was able to work out there all day with this thing running. I had to preheat the garage for about an hour or so depending on how cold it already was. 5Update First one was delivered and after I hooked it up I found out that the Fan was against a bracket and would not turn. Called customer service and they paid for the postage for me to return it and I had another one in 4 days. Put it up and it works perfect. It does a great job on my 500 sq. foot garage. I was very happy with the way customer service handled my problem.NOTE------JANUARY 26, 2015: Had to drop this to 2 stars. After 3 months of use the heater worked perfectly. Then one cold day in the garage when it cycled on a I heard a large boom and sparks flew everywhere. I made it to my breaker box to shut the breaker off before it started a fire. Lucky I was in the garage when it happened. Again, customer service was very helpful and wanted to send me another one out right away. I said no way, after that experience I decided to go with a different brand,(Fahrenheat FUH54) one made in the USA. I hope it works as well as the G73, only a lot safer. 2Nearly +5 degrees every 10 minutes I'm using this in a 21' length x 19' width x 11' height two car garage that I use as a gym. It raises the temp almost 5 degrees every 10 minutes when on high. It's a little loud, but I expected to hear a strong fan sound. It gets this garage from 55 degrees to very warm amazingly fast compared to 120v heaters I've used previously. Those things are a complete joke by comparison. Also, I bought the Amazon recommended Coleman cable, and it worked, so I don't know why some people are saying not to buy it. Another thing, some people are installing switches to turn it off and on, but, if you have it low enough that you can reach the dial on the back, turning it all the way toward low turns it off completely for me. 5Good heater I waited a long time to have this installed as my contractor got sick in the coldest part of this winter. I have a 750 sq ft garage . This heater took the chill off in about 30 minutes when the temp outside was about 10 degrees. It heated the room up in 15 minutes when it was 40. Thankful to have found this product. It is a bit noisy but worth it! 5I have a model train layout in my upper garage ... I have a model train layout in my upper garage. This heater is minimal wattage for the area being heated. However, it is only turned on, when I am in the upper garage. It does a decent job, especially for the price paid. It does get over 70 degrees after a few hours. I do not know, when it gets down to zero, how well it will heat. That will be determined later, not in the near future, I hope. 5Didn't operate like we would have liked The heater does not have a shut-off. So at the minimum the heater stays on at 1. Which in the midwest fires are a problem so anything you have to leave on like that is a hazard unless you shut off the breaker or create your own shut off switch. The heat took the chill off but unless you run it on high the whole time you won't feel warm at all. I have no idea what it cost us on our electric just to run it the few days we had it. 3Does the trick I purchased a couple of the 4000 watt heaters by Dimplex before purchasing this 5000 watt heater. My garage is 32' by 36' and it has both 10' and 14' ceilings. 2x6 construction with R-19 insulation and sheetrock on the inside. From what others have told me, "the ultimate man-cave". It is actually a working garage with my office for my business above. When I built it, I never had the intention of using it full-time as an office, but more as a storage for our boat during the winter months. Well, that changed, so I needed to install a heater to keep the garage semi warm. I wired up a 30 amp outlet, which wasn't difficult since my breaker panel was right below where I hung the heater. It's not a huge heater, but it puts out good heat. Last week, it got to -17 at night, the heater was running most of the night, but the temp in the garage never got below 50 I would say. In my mind, that is pretty decent. I have been very pleased with it, like others suggested, wish it had a dryer wire or such to plug it in, but I wired up an existing range cord I had and it seems to work fine. I wouldn't suggest the 4000 watt ones, they just didn't seem to do the trick for me, just blew out semi warmish air. This one, the 5000 watt one, blows out nice hot air. 4Great heater just a little noisy. My only complaint is the amount of noise when it's on. It makes it difficult to watch tv in my garage mancave. Two people talking isn't too bad but you would have to turn the tv up quite a bit when the heater is on. All that said I can use my garage in the winter and be comfortable. 4
