A cheap way to add some cooking space to your stove. My apartment has an older stove, which is on the smaller side. So every cooking surface counts. This is especially true when I make breakfasts as there are often several items that need to be cooked simultaneously. This particular griddle was on sale, so I thought "Why not?"My first impressions: small, light. It would not completely cover the stove elements left to right, which is how I first imagined it would work. However it did manage to cover them back to front perfectly fine. The good:- It is non-stick and easy to clean.- It does effectively add more cooking surface. However...The not-as-good:- It doesn't distribute heat very well. The majority of the heat is pretty much wherever the elements are and not the portion between the elements. That part's hot, it just doesn't sizzle....BUT the hidden benefit to this is that you can move your food items to these "not so hot" spots if they're cooking too quick. Perfect for when cooking things in batches. When I was making short ribs, it was useful to move the smaller cuts to these sections while the larger cuts cooked more.User concerns:"Warped."There is very slight warping on mine but I don't really notice it when I cook. It is more obvious with sauces or other liquids as they will usually pool up at one end. Be cautious, especially with omelets. I think this warping does cause the griddle to shift slightly during use. But that's nothing a little nudge with your tongs won't fix."Cheap material"It is definitely not cast iron. But I wouldn't call it "cheap": It's light. It's aluminum. It might not feel like a solid slab of metal, but it holds all your sausages!Overall this is a decent griddle if you need some extra cooking space for things like pancakes or bacon. And I imagine it would be good for camping as it's very light. If you want to do serious cooking, then you probably want cast iron. But if you simply want more space to cook on in your bachelor pad, you could do worse. 3Nonstick finish pitting and flacking off pan We have two Nordic Ware 10230AMZ 2 Burner Griddle 10-1/4-Inch by 17-1/2-Inch for less than 60 days and, after reading commentary prior to purchase, have been very careful to prevent warping and washing with only cloth rage to prevent damage to the pans.Unfortunately after only a dozen uses both pans' non stick finish have started to pit under the finish and in some areas the finish has separated from the aluminum base. This is very disappointing because in every other manner these pans are wonderful to use. 1Very cheap Very cheap and thin. I was well aware it didn t have handles when I bought it but I thought it d be heavier and sturdier that no handles would be ok. It s so thin and light that it moves around very easily and with no handles it makes using it tricky and difficult. For me it s more hassle to return it than to just keep it especially cause it was fairly cheap but if I could change it I wouldn t have bought it. 2gets way too hot The surface are is small, and it gets WAY TOO HOT! I set my heat to medium. The surface got so hot, it immediately burnt my french toast on contact and melted the edges of my spatula. I'm guessing it's made of aluminum. It also doesn't heat evenly and it's hard to flip items due to the lip around the edge.I do like that it doesn't have wide handles, which made it fit well on my range (my other one has wide handles that require that the griddle be staggered unevenly over the flames, which is why I bought this one). 2Small sides on pan This is a decent pan. The sides are a bit small for cooking anything with grease (one pound of greasy bacon and its full) I have used the pan about a dozen times and it has started to warp slightly. The nonstick is very good so far. Cleaning the pan is easy with warm soapy water. I would not recommend using a dishwasher. 4Too light to cook with properly The griddle is very light and it does not sit flat on my glass top stove. It actually twirls around when trying to flip pancakes. You have to hold it with an oven mitt with one hand while you flip the pancakes with the other hand. It also does not heat evenly. I would recommend getting something heavier and pay a little more so you can keep it longer. This will probably need replaced within the year. 2Love at first use! Made my life a bit more easy!! Making 3 pancakes at a time instead of 1 at a time is game changing in terms of how quickly I was able to finish making brunch! Very light weight and slick design. Doesn't take much space and not bulky at all. Non stick, worked great for eggs too! 4USE LOW HEAT :) lightweight, convenient, easy to clean i got the 2 burner griddle - it does cover my two gas griddle, i tried both front to back and left to right and it fit both ways . i think this was getting such bad reviews bc people may have been cooking on high. i just happened to ALSO get a two burner cast iron griddle and cooked on high to bad results -- i learned i had to use low to medium low heat on that. so i figured i'd try low heat on this. i put butter on it (which i can't do on cast iron), put it on low and let it heat up as i prepared my pancakes. i think people's pans are buckling bc they are probably using medium high to high heat - and to this i ask the maker of both cast iron and this, why don't you write in humungous letters all over the ad and packaging - use low heat??proslightweight, especially compared to cast ironheats up and cooks food quicklyeasy to storefits on two gas burnerssaves a lot of time - a pan would do 2-3 pancakes at a time, this does 6.easy clean upcan use butter, unlike cast ironaffordablei use nonstick spray or butter on this, and nothing has gotten stuck on it, unlike cast ironcons-only fits 6 1/4 cup pancakes, unless i'm doing something wrong. a standard mix serving of one cup pancake mix makes 8 pancakes, so i can't make all pancakes at once - but i think that's a size limitation of all two burner griddles.-i have trouble flipping the pancakes because the sides of this are low, so there is nothing to stop the spatula, but i do it. i would suggest getting one with a backsplash for pancakes - this might be better for sausages etc (food that doesn't need to be flipped.)-aluminum is arguably not good for you, as it leeches into your food. when you use cast iron, the iron also leeches into food, which may be great news for anemic/menstruating women, not so great for men who have no way to release iron.-i get a tinny taste after eating food on this, but maybe it's for another reason unrelated to the pan. not sure. will test more over time,so in general i recommend it. if it's this v cast iron - well cast iron will last for years, but it is very heavy and requires constant seasoning. food can also easily get stuck on it. he loves the lodge cast iron reversible griddle/grill to make steak. i'm definitely less of a cook and way more of a convenience girl. i so wish they made this in four griddle size, the only affordable one i found is a different brand and weight 18 pounds. 4Too shallow for anything other than pancakes I got this griddle for use in my RV so small size and light weight were plusses for me. What killed it for me was that it is not deep enough to cook hash browns and other dishes like chopped onions, etc. without pushing part of what I'm cooking over the edge and onto the stove. Also hard to keep bacon grease from spilling over. It's about 3/4" deep. I may replace it with the T-Fal griddle which is 2" deep according to the Amazon description. 3Great value for the money Our 18" Circulon non-stick griddle gave years of yeoman service, but is now increasingly difficult to clean. Amazon reviews on available replacements did not inspire confidence. Finally we bought the Lodge cast-iron griddle. We have other Lodge black-iron cookware, and love the stuff, but the Lodge griddle was not a happy choice. It is fussy, and EVERYTHING sticks (after seasoning ), no matter what; may be fine for the campsite but has no place in the kitchen (we have not tried the ribbed bottom for steaks/chops yet).Out of frustration I bought this Nordic Ware 17.5" griddle for less than $20.00. It is little more than a lightweight aluminum cookie sheet, and I did not expect much. Surprise! GREAT product! Perfect for cooking shredded potatoes, bacon, scrapple. (Haven t tried eggs yet. ) Lots of breakfast stuff can go on there all at once. Nonstick top cleans up nicely, no hidden corners or grooves to store grease like Circulon .Tip: Do not cook too hot! We have different size gas burners, and it is wise to set both burners at the same heat level, medium at hottest. Take your time! Shredded potatoes cook up beautifully, golden crispy, at medium heat with corn oil (and, if Mom s not looking, some butter). I have warped more aluminum griddles than I care to count, by excess heat, or uneven heat, or too quick to rinse in cold water. No metal utensils, of course, and some ammonia will de-grease the griddle without vigorous rubbing.Tip #2: Some corn oil baked onto the shiny aluminum bottom of the Nordic Ware griddle. (How? No idea.) A paste of Comet cleanser did nothing to remove it. Barkeeper s Friend, however, cleaned it of nicely. If we get a few years out of this griddle, we are way ahead of the game. Again , great purchase. 5
