It Works! Just follow the directions, and the product works 100% as claimed by the seller.$15.00 for just 4oz. of this product may initially seem expensive. However; I assure you, a small amount of this quality product goes a long way -- when measuring as directed. Taking into consideration the excellent results of using Cast Iron Oil on cast iron cookware, the price for this product is easily justified. If you like cooking with cast iron, this product is definitely needed. I suggest all cast iron cooks to stop wasting their money inferior alternate oil products that may cause sticky buildup and poorer results over time. As long as the price for Cast Iron Oil stays in this general range, I will continue using and recommending this excellent product.TIP:When using a paper towel to apply the product, I suggest taking a standard paper towel sheet and cut it into quarters. I use only one quarter of the sheet; folded over a couple of times to make a small "pad." I found by using a reduced sized paper towel sheet, more of the Cast Iron Oil product is applied to the cast iron pan, and less of the product is wasted through wicking (capillary action) into a larger piece of paper towel. By the way, always use padded pot holders or oven gloves when handling hot cast iron cookware. 5AMAZING! Added one extra step to my griddle. I took a 60 grit orbital sander and some elbow grease to make my griddle completely smooth before seasoning. Following the instructions and the rest is history. I would buy this product again and use on all my cast iron pots and pans. Great Product! 5my cast iron pans never looked more beautiful. It works all you have to do is follow the directions and have patience because it takes awhile to do this and get good results. It takes 5 days to put the 5 coats on the pans to get the proper results. 5Incredible!!! I have always had a hard time getting my cast iron to be non stick. I have done a dozen different methods, and figured I'd give one more a shot. I stripped my pan and then used a teaspoon of this oil with a paper towel to lightly coat the bottom and sides. I then used the "Burner" method. Using your oven for hours at a time is a waste, when you are only going to be using the bottom and sides of the pan. Just lightly coat the pan, crank up the heat on the burner, and let it smoke the pan for 10 min or so (disable your smoke detectors and open a window for sure!). I let it cool for about 30 min, then repeated only one more time (total of maybe 45 min) 2 coats, and this pan was better than my teflon! Was so impressed tried it out on my carbon steel pan, and an old steel wok, both using the same method as before - both incredible afterwards!Highly Highly recommend. 5but the natural seasoning process after cooking with the pan many times is far better than multiple coats of this product I seasoned my first cast iron pan with this and it worked OK, but the natural seasoning process after cooking with the pan many times is far better than multiple coats of this product. When I bought my second cast iron pan, I decided to re-season and add another layer of this oil to my first pan at the same time as seasoning my second pan, since I could fit both pans in my oven at the same time. By adding a layer of this over the natural seasoning on my first pan, it got worse and food is sticking more now. So, I don't recommend using this to an already seasoned pan, but it does work ok as a first layer. The same company makes "Cast Iron Conditioner" made out of coconut oil which I have been using after every time I use the pan, and it makes the nonstick surface better than the flaxseed oil does initially. What this flaxseed oil it does really well is the protect the outside of the pan. Since on the initial seasoning, the directions recommending rubbed this oil over every surface of the pan including the outside, sides, and bottom, that has held up really well as a dark black shiny hard protectant layer from moisture and rust. 4This is the product to buy! Our cast iron pans looked like they were toast! We put them into the self-cleaning cycle of the oven (only recommend if you can ventilate VERY WELL!!!! Lots of smoke!!) But we had to get layers of crud off the pans and start over. Once we did, we used this product to re-season them. The season built up slowly and beautifully (3-5 treatments prior to using). We maintain it regularly and have really enjoyed this product over the last few years. Love how a small amount goes a LONG way. 5This stuff works great. My pans now look like new with a ... I decided to try this flaxseed oil instead of my old standby of Crisco solid shortening. The flaxseed oil takes longer due to multiple coats needed. I completely stripped 3 cast iron pans and used this oil.It was worth the time. This stuff works great. My pans now look like new with a very hard seasoning coating.Be sure to follow the directions and resist the temptation to put on heavier coats 5Couldn't be happier. This stuff is great. I was able to season 3 skillets, 1 Lodge cooking pot, and 1 large Lodge Dutch oven with a 4 oz bottle and still had 1/3 bottle left. I followed put a light coating on with a small patch of cloth and baked for 1 hr at 450 degrees. When finished I removed and let cool for an hour while I baked a couple of the other items. I re-applied the oil and re-baked each item 3 times over the course of several hours. After the 3rd coating/baking, each item was almost black with a hard coating of baked-on oil. They look great now, like they're 100 years old. 5Do not buy this sham product. Read my review and see attached picture. I cannot comprehend the positive reviews of this horrible product. I followed the Cooks Illustrated directions EXACTLY and all looked good after the very long seasoning process. But upon using on the stovetop, small pieces of black matter started showing up in what I was cooking. So I stopped cooking and put the pan under running water and used a paper towel to gently wipe the surface and CHUNKS OF BLACK MATTER began coming off. WHAT??!! I've seasoned pans in the past not using the product without fail. Also, this product was not advertised as NOT FOOD GRADE but when it arrived that's what it said on the bottle. I should have immediately returned it since I would be using it for a pan and cooking food in it. This is a sham product. I decided to remove the horrible "seasoning" and begin again with a completely different seasoning but couldn't get it all off. So now I have to buy a new Lodge cast iron. See attached photo. 1Best oil for seasoning cast iron. I used this to re-seasoned two neglected cast iron skillets. If you've never used flaxseed oil before, be aware: it smells weird. The odor doesn't linger long and it's not overpowering, but it will be there. Don't let your curiosity get the better over you and open the oven door early. The instructions on the bottle suggest 450 for the actual curing process, but it was too high in my oven and started to smoke. 400 worked better for me. I had noticeable results after the first application. Follow the directions and you'll get good, consistent results. 5
