The carafe is beautiful. The blue glow is very NICE - BUT -This was my second purchase. The first one lasted a year using it consistently multiple times a day. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, blaming myself for it's premature demise. This second purchase lasted a few months then died. The carafe is beautiful. The blue glow is very NICE! However, there is something assuredly wrong with the base which is where the heating of the water takes place. Two machines died with the identical problem. I have switched to Secura SWK-1701DB The Original Stainless Steel Double Wall Electric Water Kettle 1.8 Quart - it isn't as pretty, but it has worked very well for the past 5 months.A friend of mine saw mine. Bought one for herself. Her machine died too recently. It's so nice in appearance. I just wish it would last. 1Liked initially but over time regret purchaseWe bought this kettle about a year ago. Initially I loved it. It heats water as expected and the blue light when it's heating is really pretty. I have 2 complaints that make me regret the purchase. 1. When you fill the kettle, the lid doesn't open far enough which makes it difficult to position under the faucet. I can't sit the kettle in the sink to fill it, because when I do the water hit the lid rather than the opening. This is a minor complaint and easy to work around. 2. Water has gotten in between the glass and the black plastic base (not the base it sits on but the base that is always attached to the glass) and green MOLD has grown in that space. There is no way to clean it. It's on the outside of the glass, but it just looks gross. I had my last electric kettle for 10 years, but will be replacing this one with a different one because of the mold issue. 2Beauty over substanceUpdate: I'm lowering my rating for 2 factors. It's now been about 6 months of use and the push button no longer works. So in order to open my kettle I have to hold down the push button and manually lift the lid. Is this a first world problem? Absolutely and annoying. Also, despite using filtered water it develops extremely hard to clean spots on the bottom of the kettle. I don't hate it because essentially it'll still boil water but what a waste of money. I didn't "register" the kettle within 30 days of purchase the 1 year warranty is void. I'm not even mad about it because I don't want a new one. This is the worst kettle I've ever owned.First review: There are a lot of things about this Kettle that I genuinely love. I think it is beautiful to look at, the automatic shut off feature is great, it heats quickly, and doesn't take up much counter-space. However, there are a few things I don't like now that I've used it daily for several weeks. One, the cord is a little shorter than I'd like. There is no plugging this in behind another appliance. This has to be plugged in and kept relatively close to the outlet so I had to rearrange my counter in order to make this work. two, I really don't like that the on/off switch is directly next to the push button to release the top. Because of the way the button is grooved it seems as though it is one continuous button and I keep pushing on when I want to actually open the lid to put water in. Three, the top doesn't open as fully as I'd like. I like to use filtered water in my kettle and it'd be nice if the top was on a hinge that went all the way up so you could fill it directly from the fridge. As it is, I have to put water in a cup and transfer. Four, when it's ready it shuts off so silently that I often miss it and end up having to reheat it again. I wish it whistled. I'm going to use it until it dies but I wouldn't purchase it again. 2the base still worked fine but the kettle just clicked on to zero actionI order almost everything I need online and have been doing so consistently for several years now. In all that time, this is the one product I have ever given a negative review. I purchased this kettle three different times, charmed by the beauty of watching the water boil lit to blue LED lights. (And grateful it is BPA free since that's a necessity for me.)The first two times, the kettle stopped working suddenly about three to six months after purchase. By the time I bought my third one in less than two years from Amazon, I knew to test prior kettles and bases to see where the problem was. In both cases, the base still worked fine but the kettle just clicked on to zero action. With my third time's the charm attempt, I backed the product up with a warranty from Assurant--which was a true waste of money. It turns out it is only an extended warranty. However, since they sent out an email immediately claiming I was covered and did not need to do anything additional to register the product, I did not realize the first year is under the manufacturer. When I contacted the manufacturer after Assurant couldn't/wouldn't help, I was told to provide proof of purchase from Amazon (which I don't have since the confirmation email lists only one of the eight products shipped in that order and the others require my Amazon password to get to) plus pictures or video of the defective item. Not only would those be inadequate in proving the item no longer works, but I have neither phone nor video capacity as I have to keep my EMF levels as low as possible for health reasons.Aside and apart from the challenges with getting any replacement (which I thought I'd invested extra time and money to address this time!!), the more important concern is the product itself. For an electric kettle to consistently stop working after a few months like this does not say anything good about its craftsmanship. I will be avoiding Ovente products in the future. 1Awesome product with circuit problemThis kettle is awesome. I would have given FIVE stars had the product not failed at 1 year 4 months. Basically it would reach a boil, then auto shutoff (expected), but then take about a week to turn back on, then digressed to one month at a time (painful). The problem went on for a couple months before I called customer service.Customer Service reprensentatices were highly responsive AND skilled. Normally when one calls a customer service department about an ongoing issue it's not uncommon to have to tell one's "story" repeatedly: not so with Ovente Customer Service because the ticket tracking system is quite exceptional. Empathy was pretty strong too when I expressed that I felt like it would be good to have replacement parts (base or switch, for example) instead of filling up the landfill.I don't know if my situation is a one-off issue. My hope in writing this review is that the product development department at Ovente get this feedback. Ovente has all its ducks in a row with this product (it's so light weight and easy to handle!) - they just need to troubleshooting this specific failure. Honestly, for whatever it's worth in improving the product, I would have paid more for it. I love it. Please fix the problem and you'll have a kettle that rocks. 2Excellent until it died just 32 days after purchase.Excellent until it died just 32 days after purchase. The product looks and works well, with a modern yet simple design and blue LED glow during heating. It boils water very fast and the pitcher itself is free of cords. The product is simple to use and works as expected. The problem is, ours died after just 32 days (won't turn on anymore). Which is past the Amazon return policy. So I called Ovente's customer service 800 number, which is just a front because you get a recorded message saying they don't do defects, returns, technical support of the phone for "safety reasons". No one actually answers the phone. Having registered the product means nothing because it just puts your contact information in their data base but the consumer doesn't get any additional support information. So I paid to boil water for about a month and now I have to dispose of a useless piece of junk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY 1Originally Busted; Ovente replaced it quickly. MOST RECENT EDIT: I've escalated this from 1 to star to 2 star to 4 stars.Started at 1 Star because it was clearly broken out of box.Moved to 2 stars because the company contacted me for a replacement and it came promptly without any hassle on my side.Moved to 4 stars because I received the replacement and this one isn't broken and works quite well. It boils quickly and looks nice. I agree that it'd be nice if there was a whistle or some kind of tone to let you know it finished (it just turns off by itself otherwise), but then again it only takes like 5-10 minutes for it to boil and if your place is small enough, you can hear the button pop to off when it's done. I feel like I can't give it a 5 star since it was clearly busted when I got my first one, but I can't give it 3 stars or less because they were very quick about sending a new one without any trouble, but it's actually quite a nice product. From looking at the reviews here it seems that the main issue is a quality control issue. The product is awesome and most people get a great product but it feels like 1/10 people get a lemon.-------------For history's sake:EDIT: I'll escalate it a star for now because they contacted me to replace it and the process was very painless. I may escalate it again another star or two after I receive it depending on how well it works. I feel like the max I can give it is 4 stars though since I did get a clearly defective product the first time. So, in a week or so this MIGHT be a 4 star if it works as good as it looks. Or if I get another broken one it'll be a 1* again.Looks nice and theoretically it could be nice.I took it out of the box it looked great. Instructions said to clean it and to clean it it said to fill it with water and add some vinegar.I added some water and it started to drip from the bottom. "Oops," I thought. "I must've spilled some and it's leaking out of the side but it'll stop soon."It didn't stop. So much of it kept on dripping down that I started to think "boy, how can so much water be leaking?" I shut off the water and it still was dripping. That's when I realized water was coming out from the bottom of the jug and it was starting to emptying itself. Now I started to think "is it supposed to do that"? Then I realized "no way, if it was supposed to do that then it'd drip boiling water all over you when you tried to use it."So... it looks like I'm going to return this thing. I have no idea why it's leaking either because it's not damaged in any way. 4very disappointedThere are many electric kettles out there to choose from. I chose this one primarily because it is glass--I like to watch the water boiling, and it was very reasonably priced. I have now been using it for over 6 months and I still really like it: I would be willing to say that it has exceeded my expectations. The water isn't touching any plastic, the construction is quite good especially the cord. The automatic shut off feature has never failed, it comes to a rolling boil--plenty hot enough for loose leaf black teas. It even has a ring of light around the base while the water is boiling, so it is all lit up and cheerful. The only negative comment I can make is that the thin red decorative strip around the lid is lifting where it's closest to the spout. Not a functional issue at all, and I'm only mentioning it because otherwise this review might sound too good to be true. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone considering a new kettle.Update: Less than two weeks since my first review of this item, the kettle is now not safe to use. It was not abused or overfilled. Although I am not an expert, it appears that the lid is not able to withstand the heat of the boiling water and it has warped so badly that the auto shutoff feature no longer functions. That makes it unsafe to use as it is advertised, since you cannot leave the room and you must watch it and turn it off manually. No matter what else I like about it, this makes it worthless. I am sorry to have to change my review so drastically, and I hope it is still returnable. 1DON'T BUY! Product broke basically all at once and IT BURNED ME BADLY!I've had this product for 1.5 years. Suddenly things started to fall apart... This morning, as I was boiling water for coffee, I lifted it from its platform (once it came to a boil) and the handle broke off AT THE SAME TIME as the glass container shattered. This caused the boiling-hot water to splash all over my groin. I just came back from urgent care with a diagnosis of first-degree burns, and I'm missing work, too, due to excruciating pain. All because of a poorly constructed product that seems to fall apart all at once. 1I loved it! Until it melted....At first I LOVED this kettle. It looks clean and neat on the counter, has that awesome blue light, does its job, etc. One downside is that you sorta have to tilt it funny to run water into it since the lid doesn't open quite all the way, but that was never a big deal to me.The BIG downside that I found was this week, after having it for just over 2 years, the top (kettle part) melted into the bottom receiver. There is melted plastic all over the contacts, and it simply isn't safe or functional to use anymore. Sure, I got two great years out of it....but when can we go back to making products that last? I couldn't find a way to contact the company about it, but this is obviously a manufacturer's defect.Bottom line, I wish I could give it 5 stars, because I really enjoyed it, but just over 2 years isn't long enough for the life of this product! :( 3
