These are great to take with you when you want to have ...Bought these as a gift for a friend, but ended up with a pack for myself as well. I'm a total pen snob, and can't abide ballpoints. These are great to take with you when you want to have a decent fountain pen, but don't want to worry about losing a good one, or having to keep it clean and filled. I think this also makes them a great introduction for fountain pen newbies who may feel intimidated by the idea of a more expensive pen that requires maintenance and may be lost/taken.Like many fountain and rollerball-style pens, these will tend to bleed on low-quality paper, and I've had paper fibers get stuck in the nib a few times, which is easily fixed. No real issues on my Rhodia dotpad. The nib seems slightly flexible, which lends a small bit of variation in line width. These pens won't replace a good, non-disposable pen (like my workhorse Lamy Al-Star), but they're a great budget option. Pick up a pack and keep them at your desk or in your bag. 5Good set of pens. Sometime trouble getting good flow out of the black and purple...I like having a variety of colors to take notes with. These pens in general write very nice and rarely have left me with ink on my hands. I've used a lot of different cheap refillable fountain pens and these write far better without the hassle of refilling and spilling. I've written with expensive fountain pens as well and, as expected, these do not write as well as those. One great benefit of having these disposable pens around is that you do not have to cringe when some one walks up to your desk and grabs your pen to write a note. I use blue primarily and order those, in quantity, separately. I rate the blue pens a 5. I rate this pack a 4 because I have struggled with the black and purple inks. I've had three packs of these pens and consistently I had issues with having nice ink flow out of the black and purple pens. The other color work great. 4Good Quality Fountain Pens For Newbies Or The ExperiencedI mostly write via digital means, but still maintain my ability to write in an analogue way. (If for nothing else, so I can scratch "Help Me" in the dirt with a stick if I'm in an a car wreck or something.) I had a teacher in high school who wrote only with fountain pens, from which I developed my love and admiration for fountain pens.I came across the Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pen Collection a few years ago. For disposable pens, they are quite good quality, delivering a steady, clean flow of ink with no streaking or pooling. This collection comes with multi-colored pens, several colors of which you likely won't use. I'd like it if Pilot would also make a 6- or 7-pack with just black or blue. The are good enough quality that you will use them every day, and probably get a question or compliment or two from doing so. 5High Quality Fountain Pen for everyday useThese fountain pens are easy to use as promised - every day pens. No hassle of refilling the ink. Use it and throw it. They dry easy in no time. Ink doesn't spread on the paper. Pens don't bleed through even cheapest quality paper if you don't double-write (go over same thing over and over again). The picture below demonstrates what these pens can do as the 100% color media used in that picture is varsity pens. Black and 4 other colors are used in the picture and its drawn on a standard $1 notebook from target. Recommend these, well worth the price of less than $2 / pen. (01/2016) 4Just AwfulThese pens looked promising and I was super excited to use them for my first ever bullet journal. However my excitement was short lived due to the fact that these pens are 1. Hard to write with, and 2. Smudge all over the dang place, including leaking ink all over your fingers. I couldn t believe these were so highly recommended. My pages are a mess and unless your seriously careful and even then the ink will smudge all over, ruining your hard work. Thanks for nothing Pilot Varsity. 1Makes medium to thick lines and may skip ink.I bought these pens because I wanted to try using a fountain pen. I love office supplies, and I'm really picky when choosing which pen to use. I got tired of my RSVP pen skipping ink and thought these would be a way to solve that problem. Unfortunately, the dark blue pen that I would be using the most out of this set skips ink as well, it seems to write better if you turn the nib upside down though. These pens write more like a medium or thick line, so I am unable to use them at work because I need a finer line. I will keep this set to use on less important documents or when writing sloppy notes to myself. I ended up buying the Pilot MR Retro Pop fountain pen with a fine nib and it seems to be a better fit for me. 3Feels like a REAL pen!I grew up in England, where fountain pens are much more common. Living in America now, I've often found myself missing writing with fountain pens, so when I found out that the Varsity pens were so affordable, I instantly searched for them on Amazon and made the purchase.I am happy to say that I am not disappointed at all! They are great little pens that write smoothly right out of the package, and feel very comfortable in the hand. I even noticed that my 'old hand-writing' even came back, and I've been finding excuses to write things just because I get a genuine joy from writing with a 'real' pen!The varsity pens are just plain awesome. They bring joy back to writing, and are obviously made with high-standards. I highly recommend them, even over some that are quadruple the price! 5Smooth ink flow, easy to write with & fun to use!A friend let me borrow a pen which I loved using, so I had to find some for me! These are great, very smooth flow and ink flow can be slightly controlled by pressure. These pens have the old fashion nub tip, like the type one would dip into an ink well. This style of pen makes it easy to write neatly and quickly with a steady ink flow which does not require too much pressure. This has a feel that is comparable to much more expensive pens. I could not resist the rainbow color pack, but I will definitely buy another set with mostly black or blue pens. If you know someone who enjoys nice pens, they would appreciate this set. The ink does not smear. They are fun to use and greatly improve penmanship. 5Nice variety, some colors better than othersBought this variety pack after someone gave me a Blue one; was so impressed with it I wanted to try the other colors.Black is black; red and green are bright, medium/light; purple is nice, dark, slightly blue-leaning; pink and turquoise are really nice, bright and vibrant. Blue is still the stand out, not so much for the color itself which is a decent medium/dark blue but, like fancier Pilot inks, for the sheen it exhibits on good-quality paper, in this instance a wonderful red. 5Has some flaws, but AMAZING!Sometimes ink leaks into the other side of the tip, and these last for me about 2 months before starting to get low (and probably 3.5-ish months until they're all pretty much gone) as someone who uses them every day for writing notes and for doing assignments at school or at home for homework. These do leak more than the average ballpoint pen which these being fountain, so you should be wary about the thickness of the paper you use them on. For me they don't leak all the way through to the next page, but it's enough to discourage me from using the back side for most of my notebooks (which are the cheap ones at Walmart my mom buys for me in bulk). Also the dark blue and purple are very hard to differentiate. But while these pens have quite a few flaws IMO, writing with fountain pens is just SO much more satisfying and it's easier to write better. And having so many colors (especially when taking notes) is SO fun! I LOVE those aspects, so when balances against it's flaws you get my subjective 4 stars. Get thicker paper, ignore the ink sometimes leaking to the back of the tip (because it doesn't leak all over your hand like cheap ballpoint pens anways), and enjoy the f out of these! If you just want one decent pen to write with, it'd probably be cheaper in the long run to get a $20-30 "permanent" pen, as those'd probably be built better (these are all cheaper plastic) and maybe write better and you could replace the ink cartridges as opposed to replacing the entire set like like you have to do with these. 4
