16 slice is too hardThis apple slicer requires an incredible amount of force to get through apples. I'm astounded by the positive review numbers. Perhaps there's been a change in the device. I purchased 8/12/18. The blades have visible edges, so they're not very sharp, but the amount of material that must be forced through the apple is the likely problem. Further, there are spaces where the blades attach to the hub, that accumulate apple matter which is essentially uncleanable. I will try to return. 1BEST THING EVER!Seriously, why has this never been invented before? It's the best thing in the history of apples! It cuts the apples perfect size for kids (and even me) and the bottom base to push the blade all the way down is a game changer. I always hated cutting apples because the last push was annoying and made slices fly everywhere. This is easy and keeps them all mostly attached. Love love love it! 5Bad cover designIt's a good slicer and makes nice size pieces, and the plastic cover for the bottom is handy to get the slices out, but it was clearly designed by someone who never actually used it. Why is the cover permanently fastened on so it gets in the way when you try to cut?At least they didn't make that flaw impossible to correct: use a small screwdriver or needlenose pliers to get the hinge pin loose and remove it. The cover still snaps on, still pushes cut slices out, but no longer shoves everything else off the counter as you try to maneuver around the fruit you are cutting. Shouldn't have to do that though. 2Almost perfect 16 slice apple corer/slicerI was having trouble finding a 16 slice apple corer/slicer. I find the 8 slice apple sections to be too thick. I had an adjustable 8/16 slicer but it was difficult to use and the slices were never uniform. Over time it became difficult to line up the 16 slices so I gave up on adjustable models. Many slicer have blades that are angled up and therefore they do not cut all the way through the fruit. I like this slicer as the blades are flat to the bottom and the attachment pushes the slices through so that very little gets caught in the blades. It does take some effort to get through firmer apples for 16 slices but I still prefer this over the 8 slice models. Except for the blades it is all plastic and I hope it hold up over time.My 2 complaints about this (and all) apple slicers are:1. The core diameter is too small so there can still be seeds and core pieces on the sliced apples.2. The whole slicer should be about a 1/2" larger in diameter. Some of my favorite apples are fairly large and will not fit through this slicer. All the manufacturers seem to have about 3-3/4" to 3-5/8" diameter for the slicers which can be a challenge for some apple varieties. 4Dull bladesThe concepts are good, 16 slices versus 8 or 10, and a flip bottom that helps you push it all the way through the Apple. However, the blades are very dull, they have a very very difficult time getting through the peeling of any Apple, just slicing the top of the Apple off helps tremendously, otherwise when it finally budges and goes through, it often goes crooked and of course then you most often go through the core instead of down the outsides of the core. In addition, the design of metal-on-metal, grabs hold of little pieces of apple and does not want to let go, making it very difficult to clean. See the picture. And yes, I've used firm bristle brush too. Again, good concept, fair, but not good, delivery. 3Wonderful Little ApplianceIt arrived on time and works perfectly! The materials are good quality, nothing is bent or broken. It's a bit larger than I expected but it works just as well on small to medium apples as it does large! It makes cutting apples a breeze. The packaging indicates that it should be hand washed so I would avoid putting it in the dish washer. The blades are sharp, but I didn't feel any pain when I put it on my palm and pressed down or when washing it so it's safe just handling (the packaging does say to use/wash with caution and not to let children use so please be mindful of that!) It does take some pressure to cut so I recommend holding it at waist length and wiggling it slightly while applying force. The lid that you flip and use to pop the apple completely through is nice, but be careful you don't pop the apples onto the floor! Wonderful little appliance to save some time and get thin slices! 5Worked great for a short time, broke. Flawed designWe loved this item at first. The concept is great - 16 slices works great for our kids. However, this has a poor design on two fronts. 1) Cutting 16 slices requires a lot of pushing force. 2) The plastic frame is too week and we've had two of these break - photo belowI suggest getting a metal framed version that cuts 10 slices instead. 1Easy to Clean, Easy to Use.I owned one of these for almost a year, when it cracked and was no longer usable. The material used is not a cheap plastic, but it's not a super tough plastic either. If you use it on a daily basis, it will break over time unless you are very gentle with it.The design is amazing, and the apple core pops right out. Most apple slicers cut the slices into huge chunks, but this one is better for small, thinner slices. Especially great for those with children! The blades are sharp, and cut the apple in a flash. But are not detrimental if you touch them while washing it. And washing it is a breeze. All other apple slicers I've used will have pieces stuck to the blades no matter how much I clean it. And I'd rather not have my hands near those blades for that long.I do love this so much, that despite it cracking, I've ordered another one. The flip bottom makes it so handy, it's worth buying another. 5It'll Slice Apples without Slicing Your Hand!Pros: The design is GREAT. It has large, easy to grasp handles. The blade cover is just that, a blade cover. It is ATTACHED to the slicer, which is really nice - bc you won't lose the cover in a kitchen drawer somewhere. The blades are sharp. It cuts right through the apple with ease, you don't have to be a body builder to use it! We've used it on about 9 apples since we got it (we have a toddler with an apple obsession) and it cuts down lunch prep time by at least 4 minutes or so. Definitely a MUST-BUY if you eat apples once or twice a week.Cons: It's a little bulky to put in a drawer. We have a drawer that keeps all of our wooden spoons and spatulas.. it fits in there but sometimes gets the drawer stuck. I have an easy solution to this - GET RID OF SOME STUFF. So really, it's a personal problem :) The product itself is really great!!I've attached some photos so you can see the product with the cover and without the cover.I would definitely buy again! Hopefully we won't need to. We've washed it a few times and havent seen any rust yet. I will submit an edit to this review if I ever do see rust, but as of now, and if you don't see an edit, everythings great! 5My Little Tip for Using This SlicerI really like this slicer; in fact, I just bought another one that I can use at work. I was having a hard time putting enough pressure to cut through the apple, so I came up with a little technique: I just cut a tiny bit off the top and bottom of the apple, so they're flat. The slicer is super easy to use like this and it works like a charm! 4
