Well worth it!!I know some families think heated baby wipes are a waste of money, but for our daughter this was a huge life saver. As a newborn, cold wipes would make her scream. We eventually moved her changing table into a bathroom and used hot clothes. Worked amazing! Once she was a few weeks older, we set up a changing table near her bed with wipes in this heater. They work great and take he cold edge off. When you re changing your child in the night, especially if you live in a cold state, this can be a huge game changer for you!! 5Great for cloth wipesWe use this for cloth wipes. I don't feed the wipes through the hole, but just open the main compartment to get them out. I stack the wipes in there with solution made from Dr Bronners, coconut oil and distilled water. This keeps them just the right temperature, and my daughter will smile and sometimes giggle when I use these warmed wipes. My first Prince Lionheart wipes warmer lasted two and a half years. I think that's pretty great for 24/7 use. I rebought the same one and now I'm using it for my second kid. 5Great at dispensing, not great practically as a wipe warmerUpdated 4 months of use later: Downgraded to 1 star because after daily use with my twin boys, the lid is permanently in the open position. OK, so with twins I probably open and close this wipe box twice as often. Even so, I to expect that the life of the wipe warmer is only 8 months? Very disappointed.I wanted to like this warmer so much. But in the end, it seems like an extraneous piece of baby equipment that I can do without. It keeps the wipes warm, sure, but like others have said, after you pull out the wipe it gets cold to air temperature in about 3 seconds. Maybe that's not the product's problem/fault but just the way it is when you bring a wet nap out of any warm box. I've kept the warmer anyway instead of returning it because I do like how easy it makes dispensing any brand wipe one at a time. The reason I took off 2 stars is because the adapter draws *SO MUCH* electricity. The adapter gets so hot that it borders on unsafe in my eyes. I've unplugged it and now just use the box as a wipe dispenser. 1Works with Water WipesThis wipe warmer works for water wipes. I was skeptical to get this after I had a previous model of prince lion heart before and it did not work. It kept leaking water out and eventually, had to toss it. After trying several other wipe warmers that didn t allow water wipes to be warm, I decided to try this model and so far, it s working well. No leakage and it s keeping the water wipes warm- warm but not too warm to where they dry out. So far so good. 4Gets way too hot. Burns liner. This dispenser gets way too hot! I purchased the pads that you wet and place below the wipes and it dries out and burns to the inside of the dispenser within a week. It's recommended you rewet it with every wipe refill and change pads out every three months but the pads burn. I'm afraid this may cause a fire. Would not recommend. 1Comparison to the Munchkin top-down warmerI've got lots of kids and so I've tried a few wipe warmers out in my day. Our first one was pretty similar to this one, but unfortunately, I don't remember the brand. I'll refer to that one as "model 1". I've also had 2 of the Munchkin wipe warmers and the goal of this review is primarily to compare this Prince Lionheart ("PL") to the Munchkin.CAPACITYMunchkin wins hands down here. Having gone through tons of kids, I've also gone through boxes and boxes of wipes. My most-purchased wipes are Kirtland Signature (it's the brand you get at your local warehouse club). You technically *CAN* fit a full pack of wipes in the PL, but you really have to squish it down to close the lid and that makes taking out the first dozen a difficult task. The same pack completely fills but still fits comfortably in the Munchkin. (Note that "model 1" also fit a full pack, but since it didn't do the whole 1-at-a-time dispensing thing, it's not a fair comparison).EASE OF USEMy wife hates that the Munchkin has 2 little "clips" on the side that you have to slide to open the top (I'm not talking about the lid to draw out wipes one-at-a-time, but the whole top, which you would do to add more wipes). I don't find it to be a big deal, but it drives her nuts - esp when 1 wipe does not properly "draw up" the next one mid-change. For this one, the lid just pops open and she thinks it's fantastic. However, as noted above, it is very difficult to get the first dozen (or so) wipes out of the PL whereas the Munchkin is ready to go right off the bat. For me, that's a win for Munchkin. For my wife, it's a win for PL.--> THE LIDThe Munchkin lid is just a piece of plastic on a hinge. No clips or anything like that. The PL has a pretty strong latch that requires you push rather hard to open. While this is good to keep the toddlers out of the wipes, it does require a bit of force and makes a "click" when you open and close it. Once open, it stays open better than the Munchkin which, annoyingly, falls closed sometimes. Again, this is preference. I like the simplicity of the Munchkin lid. My wife likes that the lid doesn't close on her with the PL.WARMINGThe biggest difference is that PL is a bottom-up warmer while the Munchkin is a top-down warmer. Right now we have 3 kids in diapers and sometimes go through a bunch of wipes all at once. The Munchkin sometimes gets overwhelmed, esp. if it was fairly empty to start off with. For that matter, if the Munchkin is mostly empty, the few remaining wipes don't get all that warm because the heat from the top just doesn't make it down that far. The PL does a better job of warming the whole stack all at once. I suspect (though I haven't measured it) that the Munchkin uses less power since it only has to warm the few layers that you are about to use whereas the PL warms everything all at once. I'll have to look into that... (Note: my "model 1" warmer was also bottom-up and performed about the same as the PL).ALSO, we have a plastic changing pad downstairs and we fold it up and store the wipe warmer on top of it. With the Munchkin, that worked out just fine, but the PL tends to heat the plastic up so much that... well, it doesn't melt it at all, but it does get the plastic feeling kind of soft. Maybe that won't ever be a problem, but I'm feeling a bit cautious about it...--> BROWNINGThe Munchkin has never browned anything - ever - at all. We haven't had any problems with the PL yet, either since it is using the "pillow". My Model 1 warmer browned wipes all the time until I figured out that I could just put a wet washcloth in the bottom (which acted the same as this "pillow" that comes with the PL). Side note on that--once I started using the wet washcloth, I never had problems with browning (unless I forgot to re-wet it when I added new wipes). If your bottom-up wipe warmer doesn't come with a pillow, or if your PL's pillow gets lost or ruined, don't buy a new one, just use a washcloth--it works fine.LIGHTBoth have a very small light to let you know it is on. The Munchkin also has a brighter light you can turn on and off at the push of a button, but honestly, I have yet to use that feature.POWERBoth have a power cord that easily detaches from the unit which in turn allows you to take the unit elsewhere, use it, and then easily take it back and plug it back in. This is an IMPORTANT FEATURE and one that "model 1" didn't have. If you are looking at another brand of wipe warmer, be sure that it can do this, too. Anyway, the PL's power cord plugs directly into the unit itself. The Munchkin's power cord plugs into a small "tail" that comes out of the back. The tail feature is nice because it allows you to put the unit closer to a wall, however I wish they had used a thicker gauge cable because if you aren't careful to unplug it properly (holding onto the plugs themselves and not the wires), then the wire breaks and shorts. Incidentally, this is why we have gone through 2 Munchkins--the first one was fine in every way except that the cable broke on the first one. I imagine the PL would have this same weakness, but since there is only 1 plug-to-wire transition instead of 2, that makes it 1/2 as vulnerable. More importantly, since it is going into the unit itself (which is sturdy) instead of a tail (which is "floppy"), you can easily grip the correct part of the plug and unplug it with 1 hand, so the opportunity/need to (incorrectly) pull on the wire is greatly diminished, so I'm hoping it doesn't come up.BOTTOM LINE:In the end, these are both great warmers. For me, the capacity thing makes the Munchkin a better choice, but for my wife, the need to slide 2 latches on the Munchkin in order to open the top makes the PL a better choice. I also prefer the top-down warming style. I don't think my wife has an opinion (or at least, she hasn't shared one with me yet...). If it's winter and you have a small baby, he/she won't really care which you get, but will be very grateful that you are doing something to take the chill off of those wipes and will thank you by not crying (as much) during diaper changes. 4Functions as it should, but has a few downfalls. This wipe warmer works well for keeping wipes warm, but it definitely has its issues. First, about 50% of the time, the lid where the wipes "pop up" doesn't stay closed. While I'm still putting a clean diaper on my son, it pops open, or sometimes I walk back into the room and notice the lid is up, when I know I have closed it. The second issue is that it comes with an ever Fresh pad that has to be moistened once a week, and recommended to replace every few months or so. I am constantly forgetting to pull it out, run it in water, or replace it. When i do remember, it's brown on the bottom from being dried out and kinda "fried." It does mostly come out, but my previous wiper warmer (which I gave to a friend between having babies) didn't have this extra piece/step. Probably, I should just remember to do it when I refill the wipe container, but that's usually happening during a nasty diaper change and it's the last thing on my mind. But the little light is cute, although it doesn't have much function except to let you know it's got power, and it does keep the wipes warm. 3It'll do in a pinch, but it's not my highest choice. When we were expecting out first child we decided to get a wipes warmer. That thing warmed wipes for six years! Then we thought we were done and we gave it away. Flash forward a year or two and -surprise- we weren't done after all. At first my frugal self said we could manage without it. He's baby #4 after all, they're tough. Yeah, no. All the screaming from the cold wipes *helped* us to reconsider. I searched the old store for the same brand I got originally but they no longer stock that kind so we got online and ordered this one.We have been using this one about six months and I'm pretty unimpressed thus far. It keeps the wipes warmer than room temperature... usually. It's not the nice and snug warm temp that I'm used to. The latch that holds the lid down has already broken so we have to retrieve the wipes by opening the entire compartment. Before that happened we had to stretch the rubber seal that the wipes pull through because it was so snug would rip the wipes in half. It needs extra moisture put in there every few days because it dries out the wipes terribly and discolors the bottom ones. (not that discoloration matters for functionality, but after 6 years of NOT discolored wipes, it's another reason to gripe)Pros: It keeps the wipes warmish, which is better than cold wipes for those middle of the night changings. It's a roomy width that can accommodate cloth wipes as well as disposable. The cord can be removed from the back of the unit. I'm not sure if that's a pro or not but it might matter to somebody. 3Its okay.I have had the opportunity to use this product for quite some time to give an overall review. The warmer comes with a antimicrobial pad that needs to be replaced monthly. I do not remember reading about this in the description prior to purchasing the warmer. So the fact that I had to go and find the replaceable pads as well as pay for them did not win me over. Also it states to rewet the pads every week. I highly recommend checking them to see if they need rewetting every 3-4 days because the pads actually dry out rather quickly and 7 days are too long in my opinion. Nevertheless, using the warmer was so-so. Once you wet the pad and place at the bottom of warmer you place your desired amount of wipes on top. The more wipes you place in the warmer the longer they take to get warm. Also if you overfill the warmer the wipes will be hard to get out. Don t fill to wipes to the very top; leave a little space at least. Keep in mind when you remove the wipes out of the warmer, make sure that you are going to use what you pull out right away because the wipes do get cool again rather quickly. The wipes are a comfortable warm for baby. Given the fact that baby s skin are very sensitive to temperatures and you don t want something too hot (at least I don t). I didn t mind using the warmer. It served its purpose. 3Great product to keep baby comfortableMy family teases me about spoiling my baby with a baby wipes warmer but I have no regrets! Before the warmer, I used wipes directly from the package. I never thought about buying a wipes warmer. One night while changing my baby at 3 AM in the morning, he umm, got me wet too. I used the wipes on myself and it was cold!! I would have bought the wipes warmer from the get-go if I had known the wipes were that cold. To think, I've been using cold wipes on my baby all this time. My poor baby. I am so glad I bought the wipes warmer. My baby won't suffer from cold wipes anymore.Pro: Keeps wipes warm. Your baby shouldn't have to endure cold wipes in the cold morning hours.Con: The top dispenser doesn't work with my Babyganics wipes. I have to open the lid in order to use the wipes. Small price to pay to keep my baby comfortable. Also, have to keep the pillow wet so wipes won't turn brown. Replacement pillow every now and then is an added cost. 5
