OK, but does not eliminate a fork....While these are a nice way of securely handling a large piece of meat, I would not say they can replace a simple fork. They do a good job of reducing a Butt to smaller chunks, the teeth are too large and too far apart to get the pork to a final size. I also wish that the back of them was solid and not hollowed out. It would make cleaning them a lot easier. 3Uncomfortable to Hold. Not Suitable for Shredding Meat 2 or Smaller.I got these during Prime Day day. I was waiting for the deal and was thrilled to have snagged them. But, I don t like them. What I Like:1. They seem to be made of sturdy plastic. What I Don t Like:1. When I cook meat I intend to shred, I cut it into 2 inch chunks. The distance between the tines is 3/4 . So, when holding them in a normal way, I found shredding was limited to ripping meat into large pieces, 3/4 wide. My goal is pieces less than 1/4 wide. These claws couldn t do it and I ended up using forks.2. I have large hands, but I found these very uncomfortable to hold.Bottom Line:1. These are very uncomfortable to hold.2. They are not suitable for shredding pieces of meat 2 or smaller. 2Mother says they are awesome and wants more...I bought these for my Mother. She cooks for her church. Shredded pork is one of the big items they make for various functions. I have seen how many pork loins they go through and the process is familiar to me. For the occasional times I make shredded pork a pair of forks work fine. I figured she could use these, even if she prefers "old school" methods for a lot of things, especially her cooking. She called me the other day and wanted to know where I got these. She said they were amazing!! The shredding process with these was easier than anything she has ever tried. And using them to take the meat out of the pan added even more value. She even threw in the other ladies saw her using them and were just as amazed. Coming from someone who has been cooking for over 60 years, that is quite a statement. Now, will they hold up for her? Only time will tell. 5Works perfectly - Great DisclaimerThe products work as expected. I was a bit leery when I realized they are made of plastic - but after considerable use, they're just as strong and sharp as they were on day one.The highlight? A day or so after I placed the order (before they arrived), I received an e-mail from the manufacturer thanking me for my purchase. They also cautioned me with regard to wearing them and pretending you're Wolverine from "The X-Men." They acknowledged that yes - it's pretty damn awesome. They just wanted to remind me that the claws are genuinely sharp, and can do serious damage if you're not careful. I have to admit - as I was placing the order, I was actually thinking about Wolverine - and the e-mail was right on the mark. I have to wonder if they bother with the e-mailed caution when the product is ordered by women, who tend to be far more mature and responsible.100% happy with the purchase, and I only injured myself (slightly) once. 5I wanted a better method. I ordered a set of theseThese meat claws are strong, sharp, and really do make shredding cooked meat easier. Before I bought these, I pulled pork (and beef, and chicken) with two forks. That always took more time and effort than I thought it should, and my hands were always tired and sometimes achy afterwards. So, for an upcoming family gathering where I planned to pull two whole pork shoulders, I wanted a better method. I ordered a set of these, but as the date of the gathering drew near, and I worried I would not get these claws in time, I bought a different pair of meat-pulling claws at a local store. Then, these arrived, in time for the gathering. As a result, I was able to "test drive" both types of tools. I have to say that using these Cave Tools claws is the superior way to pull pork shoulder into shreds. The grips on these tools allow them to work like extensions to my knuckles, and they really do allow the user to pull an entire pork shoulder into shreds in just a couple of minutes, versus what I estimate would have been 10 to 15 minutes of work using two forks, and would have resulted in tired "people paws" afterward. I have only one suggestion for an improvement, if it is not a technical impossibility of the plastic-molding process: make the backs of the claws solid and smooth; there are small indentations in the backs that can hang onto little shreds of meat that make cleanup a little more work than a smooth, solid back would do. 5Perfecto.......Hi guys!Well got my chance to use the claws this weekend. Smoked us a nice pork butt with a great rub and these claws made it much much easier to shred for pulled pork sandwiches & tacos!!!! Must have! I imagine it will work excellent with brisket too!!!! The quality is great, sharp pointy suckers too!!! Good buy! 5Surprisingly UsefulSo, yeah. These things look a little childish. I admit that when I first saw these I was less interested in how they work than I was in how much I would feel like a middle aged fat superhero with them. I even laughed along with I watched Alton Brown make fun of them in a recent video (don't know if his were this brand or not). But when I was out of town on a business trip, my wife ordered them for me anyway. You know what. I like them. I know, unitasker, drawer candy, sink danger magnet. All the warning signs. But they are handy.First, I do indoor slow cooking quite a bit. I do a barbecue style dry rub and wrap up an electric roaster and set it to 225F and let it go overnight. You don't get the great smoke flavor but when you work 12 hour days it's the closest you feel like getting. I also, at least once a month, cook a large pork roast in my crock pot covered in sauerkraut. With the wife and I working long hours we like to cook set it and forget it meals. Those often involve large chunks of meat in slow cookers that don't make it easy to remove them.My first act with these babies was to pull a Boston butt out of the roaster. Now, the meat is falling apart already so it's usually really hard to get out of the roaster with other utensils. I often use them just because they make picking up large hot items a easy as cake (although I don't think I'd try to pick up a cake with them). I have used them to pick up roasted poultry and an entire beef brisket that I had no intention of shredding. But this particular butt I both picked up and shredded. They shred like a dream. Normally, my meat is really tender (as to be expected for guys my age)...so shredding isn't that hard anyway...but these things just fly through it.If I have to give one complaint, it's that once you get a little pork fat in the mix they are a little hard to handle. They try to turn a little in your hands making you adjust your angle to a little bit uncomfortable position from your wrist. That's usually just when trying to pick up a heavy item...when you're shredding it doesn't really bother me. It's really not a big deal and I'll make that sacrifice if that lack of grip is what makes these things clean up so easily.******UPDATE*******OK...my complaint about the fat has a fix. After shredding a few more things, I noticed that I had worked out a way to keep them from slipping so much. It's hard to explain, but I'll give it a shot here. Don't shred your meat holding the claws perpendicular to your line of motion. In other words, don't shred in the way that seems like how they should work...like a cat clawing a chair. Instead turn the claws about 45 degrees to that angle and pull towards you. I find the easiest way is to use one claw to just hold the meat down and use the other to rake towards me. 4These are must haves!!!!If you smoke any type of meat and you want to effectively shred it? The are the claws for you! I must caution you, be very careful how you handle these claws. If you're not careful, you can really do some damage to yourself! PLEASE!PLEASE!PLEASE! Do not let your young kids handle these claws! They are not toys and should be stored properly to avoid being injured by them. I smoked a pork butt and had to put it in the refridgerator because, I didn't have time to shred it right then. Since the meat was cold, I thought it would be tough to shred it (pull apart) but, I was wrong! Using these claws totally crushed it! I think I finished shredding that 7 or 8lb pork butt in about 10 to 15 minutes. Clean up isn't a problem as long as you have something like a toothbrush that reach into the nooks and crannies. You can pick up a 10lb brisket with no problem using these claws! 5They work. They work very well!First, I am not being paid to review the item, didn't get a discount, etc. I purchased these on my own with the hope that they'd perform as the description says. Well, they do. Lightweight yet well-made and sturdy. The tines are sharp, sharp, sharp. I've used them once so far (pulled pork). It grabbed the meat easily when I removed it from the crock-pot and then shredded the meat easily and effortlessly. I'm pleased. Oh- kids (and some adults ...) will want to play "Wolverine" with these. Don't. They are sharp. Definitely not a toy. Oh, one other note: I'd read a review that said they don't fit the hands well. Not my experience. I'm 6'0" and 220 lbs - yes, a "husky" man ... and they work just fine. 5Makes shredding easier but difficult to clean due to gaps in the plastic.I purchased these shredding claws because my wife has started a new diet and I've been frequently cooking meats in the slow cooker for her. Initially, I was shredding the beef and pork and chicken with two dinner forks and thought to myself, "There has to be something better out there." It didn't take me long to find a bunch of options on Amazon. I went with the Cave Tools brand because the price was fair (I didn't want something too cheap, but I also didn't need anything expensive) and they were plastic (I didn't want metal to corrode or scratch my cookware). These claws were excellent at pulling the meat apart and shredding it quickly. They're larger than my forks, so they shred in less time, and they don't have long handles, so they're easier to handle than the forks. That also means your hands have to get closer to the hot food, so let it cool first. They're also sharper than they look in the picture, great for puncturing meat to hold it in place with one claw while the other shreds.I did find one flaw with these shredders though. They saved money by not making the claws a solid piece of plastic. The plastic is hollow on the underside, meaning there are large gaps that come to a point in the prongs. This is a great place for food and debris to hide, and it's too small to get a dish scrubber in to clean. I would rather have paid $5 more for the claws and had them be one solid piece of plastic without the nooks and crannies for food to hide in. I hope a version 2.0 comes out with an improved design. Still, I'm happy I purchased these claws and do recommend them to anyone who shreds anything on a regular basis. They definitely made cooking easier. 4/5 stars. If you found this review helpful, please show some love by clicking the "Yes" button below.
