Bought in 2014 - Still Works!!I purchased this dispenser in September of 2014 (thanks, Amazon for keeping track!) and it STILL works! We use ours in the kitchen (with liquid hand soap only) where it gets plenty of use. I m not going to say that it s been absolutely flawless, because it hasn t... It can get clogged (possibly because we don t use the SimpleHuman liquid soap?), as we discovered firsthand, but I ve been able to unclog it relatively easily (this has happened twice in the 3+ years we ve had it). Battery life is acceptable and the sensor works perfectly (keeping the exterior of the unit clean helps). I ve purchased a knockoff of this unit, which ended up in the garbage 2 months later because it jammed up and then started leaking. Lesson learned. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. I d have given it 5 stars if it never clogged, honestly. Would I purchase again? Absolutely. Would I recommend to others? Absolutely. I was in no way compensated for this review, either. 4Three blinks, you're outI wish I'd read the reviews more carefully before ordering this, on a lark. I used to have an older generation simplehuman sensor pump, and it worked well, but the batteries were super difficult to replace (took many tries to get the contact right). This one has a redesigned battery compartment, but unfortunately, after short amounts of use-- sometimes only two or three dispenses, sometimes up to a week-- it always switches to a mode where it blinks three times instead of dispensing soap. Brand new duracell batteries, plenty of soap. I've found that sometimes, if I turn it off, take out and put back in the batteries, shake it around a few times, and offer the right magical incantations, it will turn back on and dispense. Definitely inconvenient, there must be a design flaw somewhere if so many of us are having this problem. 1Bought this to replace a cheaper brand, and so far...Been using this for 6 months now, and it has worked flawlessly. So glad I got the white one...it doesn't show any drips or water stains, fingerprints, etc. This one is a replacement for a different brand (cheaper) that I purchased back in October, which I returned for a full refund. (Thank you Amazon.)With this one, I took it out of the box, put fresh batteries in, filled it with the free included packet of SimpleHuman soap, powered it on, and....so far...so good. The only thing I did was to increase the amount of soap dispensed by pressing the + button once. It dispenses the soap onto your hand very rapidly, as compared to my last one, which kind of had a delay, and would confuse guests, leaving a little puddle of soap every time. This unit has a better hand sensor so it doesn't freak out if there are shadows or flashes of light which would cause random dispensing of soap.with my old one. I like that you can easily see when it is time to refill the soap. So far I am very pleased. 5Battery Hog. Not recommended. This unit worked fine for a while. Now its eating batteries every three weeks. I'm spending way more on batteries than the cost of the unit. Other users claim the same issue. I would not purchase this unit. 1Loved these at first and bought 3 totalLoved these at first and bought 3 total. Too bad 2 out of the 3 broke after a couple of months!! I sent back one of the completely non-functioning dispensers back to simplehuman and they said it was working fine and shipped it back to me.... but no matter what I tried, i.e. resetting, replacing batteries, cleaning, nothing worked. Had to dump that in the garbage. With the other broken one, I could hear the valve working but nothing would come out. So I went on to cleaning it like they recommended and tried to see if unclogging it with rubbing alcohol and priming the dispenser would help. Nothing worked. So there went another one in the garbage. What a waste of money! Incompetent product. 1Very Convenient, and Works GreatI've had this for 7 months so far, and it's been working great. I use this in my kitchen for handwashing. I just recently needed to change the batteries. I used the simplehuman soap sample that came with it, and it worked great, but I refilled it with the Method hand soap I normally use, and it's been working well thus far. The simplehuman soap is definitely a bit thicker than the Method soap, but I haven't had any problems with the Method soap dripping or leaking from the spout. It does release a bit more soap per squirt after I switched soaps, but it's not a big change.Update (1-16-19): Still works great, and no issues.Update (7-19-19): Still working with no issues. 5A nice upgrade from the entry-level Lysol productSo far, I'm loving this dispenser. Perfect size, I love how narrow it is so it doesn't take up too much countertop room, and the sensor/spout is long enough so getting soap isn't an issue. It seems well made. We got this when we ran out of the Lysol refills for their branded soap dispenser for the last time, since I was tired of having to special order them and wanted a soap dispenser for the kitchen that could take any old liquid (non-foam) soap like the one we have upstairs (it's a wall mount one that I forgot to review). But there's no place by the kitchen sink to put a wall mount dispenser, so I at least wanted one that wouldn't take up too much space and hopefully wouldn't accumulate this pool of nasty congealed soap dregs around and underneath like the Lysol one had a habit of doing. Well this one seems to solve that problem too, because it really doesn't drip as much and I especially like that you can adjust the volume of soap it puts out; I always felt the Lysol one dispensed far too much soap for a single use.The only negative I can think to mention is that the sensor doesn't work as well in dim light as the aforementioned upstairs bathroom one, but I specifically got one that was made to work in low light conditions in that case (for, say, early mornings when you stumble into the bathroom half asleep and don't want to blind yourself with the lights at 4am). Likely not as important for a kitchen dispenser, and I wasn't looking for this functionality in this purchase, so it doesn't figure in my evaluation. 5Another casualty of Simple Human's guttingAnother stinker of an item from Simple Human.Using only their soap, I've gone through two of these already and they're all dead. Got warranty service for both and the replacements also died. One of them was "rusty" according to their customer service, and I was chastised for getting them wet. Yet the only time I got them wet was when cleaning out the soap in preparation for shipping, of course winding up flushing lots of soap down the drain. Are the suggesting keeping it by a sink is too "wet"? It's a soap dispenser! The list of broken Simple Human stuff has now exceeded the list of still working stuff in my house. Do yourself a favor and skip this. 1Simple fix for slow or reduced soap dispensingBought 3 of these a year ago and recently they started acting up with very slow or very little to no soap coming out. Tried changing batteries and turning up the volume - no luck. Had a closer look and it seems the soap has congealed over time at the bottom. No one ever lets the dispenser go completely dry so soap keeps going in with the oldest at the bottom. Also using different soaps seems to exacerbate the problem (more dense stuff settles to bottom). Simple fix - empty out the soap and rinse out the reservoir with water. There is a little cog at the very bottom which pushes the soap through the pump. You must leave the batteries in while rinsing and dispensing at the same time to clear the cog (impeller) of congealed soap. This will take a few minutes and have a clean dish towel handy. Note the water will not be dispensed (not thick enough). When clean, refill and run a few times to flush the foamy mix out. Should work as new at this point. 5One in every sink area in the house! We have four of these at home - that's how much we like this product! You can either use the simple human soap or any other liquid soap you like. You can also change how much soap you'd like coming out in one shot. It takes 4 AA batteries. 5
