I got the lemonEdit to previous review.I changed it to 1 star from 4 because while it works great for heavy sleepers and people who tune out noises when there is a loud AC running, the alarm and vibrate functions quit working inexplicably just a couple of weeks ago (4 months after purchase). I figured this out after getting up late for work several days in a row and at a loss thinking I had slept through even this alarm. I tried setting it to go off while awake. Nothing.I tried to reach out to the manufacturer, but the information is no longer valid. So I'm stuck with a $35 alarm clock that only tells the time and no way to fix it through the manufacturers warranty. And no idea what to do now to ensure that I wake up on time. Also, in very thin ice with my employer right now.Update: I figured out that it was the backup battery I had just put in that was causing the alarm to not work. I put the battery in because we had had a lot of storms and brown outs that kept causing the clock to reset.Leaving the 1 star because really...if I'm being sold a defective product, I shouldn't have been charged full price.Otherwise, the alarm works for heavy sleepers. 1Corpse-approved, but your neighbors might kill youI basically sleep like a dead person, and I've tried EVERYTHING. I was tired (no pun intended) of sleeping through classes, work, and just about everything else, so I decided to give this one a try. I have slats under my mattress, so I had to put the bed shaker under my pillow instead - and I'm glad I did! The bed shaker feature works extremely well. If you're like me and you hit snooze while you're still sleeping without realizing it, YOU NEED THIS. The bed shaker will make you feel like you are falling off a mountain; it's very strong, and you may end up on the floor. Now on to the sound; this is the first alarm clock I have ever purchased that wakes me (and the rest of the neighborhood) up 100% of the time. I work full time on an ambulance, and honestly, I can't decide what's louder, my siren or this alarm clock! The very first time I used it, my neighbor came knocking on my door because it also woke him up. Sorry, Mr. D, but I'm keeping it. 5IF YOU ARE A DEAF PERSON, THIS IS FOR YOU.Perfect for someone who is deaf and gets up earlier than their Spouse. I am deaf so I can't speak for the siren or whatever noise it probably makes very loudly, I've no use for sound so I set it for just the shaker.I keep that shaker module tucked just under the corner of the head of my side of the bed, between mattress and box springs. Wakes me every single time without fail. The flashing lights also help; they look like regular LEDS but they are VERY BRIGHT and they do help to alert me to get the heck out of bed and shut the thing off to start my morning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE DEAF, BY A DEAF PERSON who bought this a couple/few months ago. It has NOT failed me. If you need something affordable to get your hiney up in the mornings, and you are deaf, BUY THIS. You'll not regret it. 4Does not work on zombiesI bought two of these alarms, for my girlfriend and her son. Everything works fine with the devices themselves, but I have a haunting suspicion they might be part zombie because it fails to wake them up despite me setting the snooze to its 1 minute minimum. I hear two of these every week day morning for 45 minutes to an hour, and have come to utterly and completely loathe this product. My stepson's is wedged against his metal bunkbed and the wall and sounds like a road crew jackhammering on concrete at 6:45 AM. My girlfriend has hers and her phone going off at the same time. The vibrator wiggles out from under her pillow on a regular basis to come visit me and bang on my shoulder. I have considered duct taping it to her forehead... In the end the device is great for those still of this world, but if you have a zombie (s), good luck. 3This video is all the proof you need. This thing is loud and should work for my teenager.....however, he still sleeps through this. I honestly don't know how. It is crazy loud and obnoxious. I think for 99% of heavy sleepers this should work fine, but it didn't for us. Still a good product and I would recommend it. Crazy I know, but I feel this product would work for most everyone else.**NOTE- BEFORE you watch this video, turn the volume alllll the way up! It is more enjoyable! **UPDATE: He sets this alarm and wakes up daily. The STILL shocking part to me is that the alarm goes off for about 2-3 full minutes each morning, he then turns it off, and then he actually gets up when the backup alarm go off 10 minutes later. Needless to say, the mornings are loud, VERY loud around here. We had to start cracking his door for our POOR dog that sleeps in his room. Those first few days that we forgot to let her out before that alarm went off, surely did revocable damage to her already insecure tendencies. HOWEVER......there are NO more morning fights, arguments, and threats of harm (by me), or punishments handed down because of the morning wake up issues!*** So, the moral of this parenting story.... the sonic boom alarm clock turned our miserable mornings around! My mornings are now something out of a dream-minus the obnoxious sound of the sonic boom. I am now able to get up, drink coffee, prop my feet up, and I know that after the second alarm goes off he will get up and moving. My mental morning sanity is now restored. Granted, the last few years took something out of me, that made me question every single life choice I have ever made, I am now back at 70-85% mental parental operating capacity. Although, that isn t a standard I would normally be proud of, I will take it! 4I wake up... real quick!I am the heaviest sleeper I know. In the past years, I have been late to work several times for sleeping through my alarm. I am a snoozer, but it got to the point that I wouldn't even wake up to hit the snooze! So, I got the Sonic Bomb on labor day weekend -- perfect time to test it, I thought. Let me also add that I can go back to sleep 99% of the time no matter how I'm awakened. The first thing I wanted to test was the bed shaker. I put it under my pillows, but didn't have much hope because I'm a psychopath who sleeps with more than 8 pillows. So, it's about two and a half pillows deep, ya'll. I set the alarm for 7. When 7 AM rolls into my apartment, I am rattled from my sleep by the intense vibrations of the bed shaker. I'm quite literally shook, okay? This thing feels like it's a little more than gently rattling my spine. But I'm awake. It's done the job! I turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Because that's what I do (see above). It's the weekend. Now, I needed to see how the bed shaker worked in combination with the "loud alarm." So, I set the bed shaker and alarm to go off at 7AM again the next morning. It was like waking up in a war zone, guys! That alarm is WAY loud and I wonder if I also woke up my neighbors (forget about it). So, your spine/head is more than gently rattling while this siren BOOMS (you can adjust the pitch; mine is about half way) and you just know the Red Coats are coming. I am UP, AmazonDudes. I turn off the alarm, but there's no going back to sleep for me this time. War has changed me. 5LOUD AND SHAKESTHIS ALARM IS THE LOUDEST ALARM AND SHAKES YOUR BED TILL YOU WAKE UP, I ADDED A PHOTO OF THE PART OF THE ALARM THAT YOU PUT UNDER YOUR PILLOW THAT MAKES YOU THINK THE RUSSIANS ARE ATTACKING AND GETS YOU UP AND OUT OF BED IN NO TIME 5BOMB is a good name..I'm usually not one to do reviews but this certainly deserves a review!!!We've had this about 5 months now.. life changing!Hard sleeper? Hitting the snooze button a lot in the morning?Yeah..well, that s me..it hasn t always been Heck, I used to be up by 5 AM every morning, ready to kick booty and take names. Well, not so much these days. Not sure if it's because I haven t had a full night s rest since 2012 (thanks Al s) or because my diet & exercise have turned to crap-- nonetheless, Russians attacking the U.S. in broad daylight couldn t wake me from a midday power nap if given the chance.Being business owner, WAHM, Wifey.. Surely you can see how that can be an issue. As fate would have it, Mr. Smo and I happened across this surreptitious alarm clock marketed towards those that sleep like a railroad tie instead of a normal human being should. Literally never heard of it. The ad promised to wake the heaviest of sleepers. I m thinking, they ve obviously not met me, so.. What the heck, let s give this thing a whirl. We buy it. It comes in 5-7 business days, yada yada. Of course I m testing it out! I ain t fixin to DIE trying to come out of my sleep (if it really works, that is!)Firstly it comes to you literally looking like a bomb wire to a hockey puck. Like, that probably should have been my first clue to walk away. Nope, I m a glutton for punishment.Y ALL- we were testing--- I repeat, TESTING this alarm, broad daylight Not sleeping Heck, we were expecting the thing to go off in a minute s time. That alarm went off and y all, If I m lyin I m dyin! I dang near fell out.. I nearly had a HEART ATTACK! This thing packs a whopping 113 decibels, (the same as a chainsaw, so you imagine one starting up as your alarm clock!) My ears probably bled lol..The vibration was jolting, but more on that later.Alright, now to the real test:So Night #1: Side note: Both Mr. Smo and I have a love affair with our snooze buttons. We usually set the alarms 1-2 hours ahead so we can snooze and drift lightly back to consciousness in time for the day. Night #1 we decide we re gonna be some daredevils. Set that joker for the exact wakeup time. Let s do it. We placed the jolter-majig under our mattress, in the middle, to make it fair for all parties.I wasn t ready. He wasn t ready. Also, might I add, tiny Smo, too, was also not ready. Now, let s break this down. You re sleeping. You re dreaming. Then you get the jolt , and by jolt , I mean sit straight up in bed, bug eyed, scrambling for glasses, screaming across the king size bed, HOLY !)@*# IS THAT AN EARTHQUAKE?!? kind of jolt. The bed-shaker (that actually goes underneath your pillow, I do NOT recommend that) shakes so violently, you can hear and feel it on the other side of the house. So, yes, it literally shakes your lazy tail outta bed. Imagine a guy coming into your room each morning with a jack hammer, and that s about it.Then, you get the squall ... (is that a good word? I feel like that s a good word.) Remember the aforementioned 113 decibels? Try going from sleeping soundly, to a chainsaw in your ear with no warning. Your heart rate will go from 60 to 130 in seconds, from the first jolt, really. Now, this God-given, Satan inspired gift also has one more trick it has LIGHTS, as if the brutal awareness that you are no longer asleep, but may now have an anxiety attack instead, isn t enough. I wouldn t go as far as to say these red-flashing lights would cause a seizure, but it probably would be good to keep in mind if you have epilepsy. The only way I can describe these lights is, if you ve ever seen flashing red lights on an ambulance, that s about what it s like. The only experience Mr. Smo says he can compare this alarm clock to is being jolted to consciousness each morning in basic training. Like drill sergeants, the shear volume of this alarm clock will make it impossible for one to ignore it. Really, I m not even sure why they included a snooze button on this thing. If you have heart issues, do not get this. If you suffer from anxiety, do not get this. Epileptic much?-- probably not for you. This alarm is no joke. But it s EFFECTIVE. I often find myself waking up before the alarm even goes off due to what I believe is almost fear. Imagine someone putting a jack hammer to your bed and the loudest alarm you can imagine going off. If you can sleep through this then you may want to go see a doctor to check and see if you re still in the land of the living. Though, I m certain no matter what state of decomposition one is in, it d probably still wake the dead.As far as wiring issues, not working, etc... no problems so far. 5This hearing impaired person says yes to the Sonic Boom! Most of these Sonic Boom and Sonic Alert clocks will wake up heavy sleepers with no problem. However, I am hearing impaired and, without my hearing aids in, I can't even hear a regular clock's alarm when I am asleep due to the high pitch. My phone's alarm goes unheard as well. I HAVE to have a clock that's not only loud but has variable tone because my type of loss is in the high pitches. If a clock or any device has a high pitched sound, I can't hear it (Store theft alarms, microwaves, cat meows, etc.) I had Sonic Alert's The Skull with Bone Crusher Bed Shaker and it was great but broke after a year and I had to get a new one which broke again after about a year of not too constant use. I decided this time to get the Sonic Bomb with Super Shaker - SBB500ss. To my surprise, Amazon says I bought this clock in 2010! I have no idea where it went or what happened to it but I bought another one anyway. This clock is very lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of space. It has a large display and a battery back up. It has both volume and tone adjustments which are both absolutely a must for me. I have it set to the lowest tone and I can hear that just fine. I also have it set to the loudest volume setting which would probably scare the pants off of a person with perfect hearing but doesn't bother me when I hear it except to know I have to get up. There are nice features like the ability to adjust snooze time from 1-30 minutes and the ability to select the alarm duration from 1-59 minutes. I set the snooze for 5 minutes and the alarm time for the full time. I can always turn it off early.Setting the clock is a little different. You can push a button to make the time go fast or slow. That is, rather than setting the hour, then the minutes, you have to push the button and let the clock cycle through every hour and minute. But it's very fast and, when you get close to the time you want to set the alarm, you switch to the slow button and get it just right. Not an issue, just different from the norm. The clock has a bar on top which blinks red and other lights that also do the same when the alarm does off. It has a different sort of alarm pattern. It beeps three times, stops, then repeats until you tap the sleep bar or turn it off. Other clocks continuously beep until they're turned off. This doesn't affect the clock's power to wake me up but again, I am just so used to the Skull that I had to adjust to the new alarm pattern. The bed shaker is effective. I usually put it under my pillow or in my pillow case when I use it. I can feel it quite well and even hear it because it has the pitch that my ears pick up. I generally only use the alarm but when I NEED to be sure I get up, I use the shaker and alarm and also set my Fitbit's silent vibrating alarm on my wrist for good measure. This alarm is loud but not quite as loud as the Skull. It is certainly plenty loud enough for heavy sleepers and even for someone like me who has hearing loss. Setting the alarm, shaker or both is as easy as sliding a button up on the side of the clock. This clock is a great choice for heavy sleepers and those who have hearing loss. Even if you can't hear the alarm, the shaker will do the job of waking you. The lights are a plus especially if the room is dark or dim. I like the clock but I am not sure of its durability. I guess time will tell but at this point, I feel confident that this will wake me up with just the alarm or the shaker. If you need a clock that's loud and also that has adjustable tone, this one is a good choice. The ability to adjust the tone makes all the difference in the world to people with hearing loss in either upper or lower pitches. I can not hear the clock at the loudest setting when I set the tone/pitch to the highest level. It's above my ability to hear just as birds are. But at the lowest tone, it's enough to wake me even out of deep sleep.I am going with 4 stars because the Skull was a bit louder and I think the way you need to set the clock is a bit more work than setting the hour and minutes separately. But those are small things compared to all the good features this clock has. It will wake almost anyone up! 4Vibrator Stopped WorkingThis was an awesome product for the first few months, but shortly after I purchased and began using this item the vibrator stopped functioning properly. Instead of "throwing you out of your bed", the vibrator simply made a humming noise and a light vibration, not one that I could hear or feel while unconscious. The result was multiple workdays and classes were overslept because the alarm could not wake me up. (Loud noises aren't enough for me, too heavy a sleeper). I spent a good few hours trying to fix the vibrator to no avail. Very disappointing.Update: ended up taking apart the vibrator and the weight needed to be reattached to the motor. It ended up being an easy fix, if anyone seems to have this same problem. 2
