Spoiled productMy two dogs have been enjoying these patties crumbled on their dry dog food for months. Always scarfed their meals happily. However, this last bag must have been spoiled. Both of my dogs refused to eat their food, and one began throwing up. After trial and error I ve realized it was these patties. So disappointed. Not sure if this is a Stella & Chewy s issue or an Amazon issue, but I won t be purchasing this product again. :( 1so I was disappointed to recently discover dangerous bone shardsMy dog absolutely loves this food, so I was disappointed to recently discover dangerous bone shards. I gave it as a treat . . . my dog loved it dry right from the bag. In the past, I would notice that sometimes my dog had trouble swallowing it and thought it was just because of the dry texture. But last night I actually crumbled the patties and I felt something sharp that hurt my finger. It was a bone shard . . . way too sharp. I tore through the bag and crumbled all the patties and found bone shards of all shapes and sizes, some close to 1 cm long! And some with very sharp edges. You would never know this unless you actually crumbled the patties with your fingers. In light of my recent discovery, I'm thinking that my dog may have had trouble swallowing these in the past because of these fragments. PLEASE beware if you serve these. Check the patties, especially if you have a little dog. I don't think I will be able to give these anymore if this is the norm. I'm talking . . . sharp bone fragments that are hidden in these patties. 1Expected patties, received a bag of "sawdust".It's a great product if you buy it in the store but unfortunately this arrived crumbled to smithereens. Essentially received a bag of "sawdust" with not a single formed patty in the bag. I guess we'll be using this as a food topper instead of feeding as treats as we had hoped. Won't be buying this product from Amazon again as it doesn't appear to hold up well to shipping.Edit: Our dog, who usually loves these, completely refuses to eat this batch. Exp. date 8/17, which is much less fresh than those we usually purchase at our local pet store. They're more expensive there, but I guess you get what you pay for. Lesson learned. 1This is definitely good eating. My dog goes crazy for the patties ...Goal for next year: negotiate a raise simply because "my dog needs more Stella & Chewy's"The price of these patties is, well, insane. It was initially not my choice to feed my dog this (I'm way too frugal for that), however, my family kindly watched my dog while I had to leave the country for some time and they got him hooked. I was horrified when I learned about this, but they justified it in an interesting way - as insurance. (Feed the dog well now, less problems in the future - hopefully). They told me their biggest regret was feeding their two dogs grocery store junk and watching them suffer later in life.Novella aside, I'm hoping they're correct. This is definitely good eating. My dog goes crazy for the patties in almost every flavour. I've hit on a few bags with some poor quality control over the years, but Stella & Chewy's always pulls through when I let them know. They seem to be a great company that's actually focused on their four-legged customers. The patties are also very versatile - you can toss one as a treat, crumble them, soak them in water, or mix them with some kibble. I alternate. Just make sure to wash your hands afterward! I've happened to get violently ill a couple times since feeding by dog these patties, and I'm almost 100% sure it was due to being sloppy after feeding him. (These ARE raw meat at the end of the day, so be careful.)Until I go broke, my pooch will be eating these. 5Cured my dogs allergies in a matter of days. This food and the other Stella & Chewy s ones have totally transformed my Japanese Chin. She got to she would not eat. I thought it was because her beloved Lab had to be put to sleep because of cancer. So I tried every food in the store. She developed where she chewed constantly her feet, her hip, any place she could chew. Took her to the vet and he said she was having an allergy to grains. So I switched her to grain free everything. It slowed down but did not stop. Then he had me try Skineze. This helped but did not stop the chewing. Then he told me about this but said I would need deep pockets if it worked. Well the pockets have now reached my knees. It is insane the price of this food, BUT she stopped chewing. Completely. She is not all red when you look at the skin on her belly. Before she was red all the time. She loves this. I put water on it, sometimes I don't she will let you know if she wants it Dr'd up. I give this to her and nothing else. For one little dog it is about 150.00 a month. I am retired. I have learned to let things go for me. I have to keep her comfortable and happy. This food does it. If you ever give out free food sign me up. LOL 5Poor quality.Very disappointed. After buying this product for many year I found green plastic and what look like bone fragments in it. They were hard as a rock. It was only after my dog threw up that inspected this batch. 1$6,000 in vet bills and my dog almost died2/13/18: My two dogs love, I repeat, LOVE Stella & Chewy's (all flavors). In fact, they love it so much that I can no longer get them to eat anything else. They were previously eating Orijen and Honest Kitchen (both high quality dog foods, as far as my research tells me) but now they turn their noses up at both. I almost wish I hadn't introduced them to this because it's pretty expensive, especially for two dogs....8/31/18 UPDATE: I exclusively fed my dogs Stella & Chewy's for about 6-9 months. They love this food. I mean really, really love it (see prior review from February above). I purchased the first bag at a local pet store and intended to give it as an occasional treat but it quickly became the only thing they wanted. Given the cost, the joke was on me. Anyway, two weeks ago one of my dogs became VERY sick with pancreatitis and cholangiohepatitis. I mean sick as in she almost died. She was treated inpatient at a prestigious animal hospital in NYC and multiple doctors on the internal medicine service stated that although there is no way to prove it 100%, they felt extremely confident that my dog became ill as a result of infection from her raw diet, the very high fat content of the food, or more than likely a combination of both. This was devastating to me, as I had been paying an arm and a leg for what I thought was the best possible food for my dogs. These reputable, expert veterinarians who treat thousands of animals each year told me that since the raw food craze has taken over they have seen a huge spike in infections resulting in the deaths of many beloved pets. It honestly sort of pains me to write this review, as I think that overall Stella & Chewy's creates good products and as a company I do not doubt their good intentions. However, apparently the risks of feeding our pets a raw diet are many and this is not information that I want to keep to myself. If you are not worried about infection (because yes I know, this is a chance you take buying ANY commercial pet food), please also pay attention to the high fat content of these patties compared to that of many other types of dog foods. Understand that like humans, dogs are at risk for things like pancreatitis when they are eating food that is too high in fat. I was most recently feeding my dogs the Duck Duck Goose formula and in retrospect realize that the fat content was probably way too high. I feel like a moron for not paying closer attention to this. It is suspected that my dog had a low grade, chronic pancreatitis for many months from the higher fat diet which then became exacerbated by an infection from the raw food (this assessment from the veterinarians was backed up by many expensive tests but I will not bore you with those details). In summary, I suppose this review is not specifically for Stella & Chewy's but applies to all raw pet food or any pet food with very high fat content. I wish that I had known some of the negative experiences of pet owners before me so that I could have made a better choice for my dogs. I don't doubt that millions of pets are eating raw without any issues, but I trust that the animal hospital was not lying when they told me of this epidemic of sorts that they have been seeing with the recent rise in raw food popularity. Many people who read this will continue to buy raw, but having read my review at least they can consider themselves warned. After much research and debate my dogs are back to eating Honest Kitchen Base Mix topped with home-cooked lean meats. 1Sharp bone pieces in every pattyI've been buying Duck Duck Goose for the past 2 years from my local pet food store and everything's been great, but the batch I just purchased through Amazon contains sharp bone bits in nearly every patty. I have a small dog (16 lbs) and these 0.5-1.0cm bone shards seem very dangerous for her small throat. It seems like Stella & Chewy's is either using a new supplier or they switched machinery to prepare this food, since bones are no longer getting fully ground. 2I am quite disappointed in this orderHello Seller,I am quite disappointed in this order. To start, I ordered the Stella and Chewy CHICKEN patties however, I received the BEEF patties. I figured OK, I'll just try the beef and see if my dog likes it (and if she does, no problem). As I prepared the meal for my dog, I realized the patties were not of the texture that I am used to. They did not crumble, instead they broke into chunks yet, felt moist when broken. They were also darker on the inside where, I assume, the moisture was held. (see image 1)In addition, there were two expiration dates on the package both of which are dated for about a year ago. Obviously someone at the facility tried to cover up the original expiration date which was 02-15-2017 (see image 3) by putting a sticker with another expiration date over it (see image 2). But that didn't work because whoever tried to LIE about the expiration date, dated it for 01/2017 which would make it older that the original expiration date. This dog food costs too much money for the company to provide me with a product that (first) I did not order and (second) one that has been expired for at least a year. 1Plastic inside the patty? We use these as treats, not for meals. Love that we can break them into smaller pieces and give as much or as little as we like. Our dog loves them, so I'm sorry to be yet one more report of foreign objects in the patties . . . we have not seen any bone shards as of yet, as some others have found, but we did just notice what appears to be green plastic embedded in one of the patties (see pictures). It's a great product, so I hope that the manufacturer gets on top of their quality control issues. 2
