Customer Reviews

Easy to replace - no need to buy the Retainer nut wrench. Changing the blade was a very simple process. If you don't have a retainer nut wrench and don't want to buy one it is possible to use a pair of pliers to remove the retainer nut (the large metal ring on the bottom of the container). Here's how:You will notice that the retainer nut has two raised portions with a gap between them.1. Get a pair of medium sized pliers.2. Open them all the way.3. The jaws should sit nicely in the retainer nut gaps.4. Grasp the handles and turn counter clockwise while aligning the jaws in the gap.5. This should loosen the retainer nut. ( Mine was not very tight at all)The directions that come with the replacement blade are very good. Basically once you have removed the retainer nut you will grasp the blade from the inside of the container with a cloth and pull it out. Clean anything dirty then reassemble in reverse. Drop in new assembly, lightly oil threads and secure retainer nut.During the assembly and reassembly process it is necessary to secure the container. I found it easy enough to put it on the ground and lock the container with my knees. I felt it was all pretty easy but this assumes a basic amount of coordination and being comfortable with hand tools. Good luck. 5The Real Deal This was an exact replacement for our Vitamix 5200 that was just outside of the warranty period. The only repair option Vitamix offers was an entire container assembly for ~$150. I was a bit uncertain, but this was the real deal OEM part which fits and functions perfectly! 5excellent part. excellent service excellent part. excellent service... I HAVE VITAMIX FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS AND MY WIFE MAKES SMOOTHEE EVERY SINGLE DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK.... FOR ME THIS WAS THE BEST INVESTMENT OF MY LIFE... AFTER 15 YEARS BLADE GOT DULL. . SO I JUST CHANGED THIS BLADE AND THE WHOLE MACHINE IS NEW AGAIN...........MY ADVICE.....DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING SMOOTHEE FROM OUT SIDE .. THEY ARE JUST GOOD FOR TASTE.. MAKE AT HOME WITH PURE 100% FRUITS WITH NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS ADDED... WITH VITA MIX OFFCOURSE..... IT MIGHT BE EXPENSIVE... BUT JUST IN ONE YEAR YOU WILL HAVE SAVE MORE MONEY JUST FROM SMOOTHEE ...... ENJOY IT...................I AM ENJOYING IT FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS... 5After 4 years of daily use, the old one died. I had to replace this as my old one wore out. Looks and works just like the original. The old one started to get a bit louder. We used it every day for 4 years. Then the last time I used it, I found pretty little metallic sparkles under the blender when I lifted it up, it was extremely loud that time. I tried to turn the blade by hand and couldn't. If you ever see metal flakes under your Vitamix, don't use it again till you can get a replacement blade. Luckily the motor wasn't fazed still works fine. One reviewer said this blade made the Vitamix quiet again. I doubt it's just me but quiet and Vitamix are words I've never used next to each other unless separated by the word - Not! Glad to have the blender back again after spending the weekend without it. 5Life saver. I thought I was going to need to send my Vitamix 1500 in for service. My old blade bearings have been grinding and causing my Vitamix to be EXTRA loud when you turn it on. I don't have a newer model so my 1500 was fairly loud out of the box. I wasn't sure what the problem was but I could see some metal dust underneath my container when I inspected it to determine where the sound was coming from. My old blade had finally worn down after so much use. If i sent it in for service I would have been without my Vitamix for at least a week. And, it would have cost me at least a hundred bucks to fix. I'm so grateful I found this blade and that it was the right size. I popped it into my container and was back in business. My Vitamix has been the work horse of my kitchen since we bought it 9 years ago. I have been thinking of getting an upgrade if we make it to 10 years with it. But it works so well that I think it would be a waste. I'm grateful parts are readily available and I can fix most things myself. I still may trade in and upgrade because the newer machines are quieter and have some nice new programmed setting that my old manual machine doesn't have. Either way you go parts are easy to find. I think this blade will last me another 9 years. Looks and works just like the original blade. 5Make your Vitamix like new! 5min install. Perfect replacement for a worn out blade assembly. Used the (purchased separately) Vitamix wrench to install. Old blade popped out. New blade was a bit difficult to install until I cleaned the threads on the lock ring. Applying a bit of food grade grease to the threads helps immensely and helps avoid cross threading. 5Blade assemblies are not interchangeable. The ordering process was easy; the delivery was speedy; the packaging and the included directions were exactly as expected. BUT, the vendor sent the wrong blade assembly. The photo with the Amazon description matched the blade assembly I needed in every way, right down to the imprint on the blades themselves. However, the blade assembly I received did not fit my Model 5200 Vitamix. THESE BLADE ASSEMBLIES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. The 5200 model blade has a much longer threaded area between the blades and the gear that engages the machine...I believe it has 7 or 8 threads, whereas the blade assembly I received only had 4 threads. In other words, after taking off the old blade assembly and attaching the new one, the gear did not even reach the corresponding part on the base to spin the blade. The return process was simple; I printed out the Amazon label, attached it to the box and dropped it off at UPS. Within a week, my credit card had been credited for the full amount. In the meantime, I ended up calling Vitamix directly for advice on which blade assembly to buy. I was surprised to learn that my blender was still under warranty and Vitamix sent me an entire new wet container, cover and blade assembly at no cost. Who knew?!! 2DOES NOT Fit VM0102D CALL VITAMIX 1-800-848-2649 BEFORE ANY REPAIR!! Had I done that in the first place, they would have done a courtesy repair free of charge. The issue with blade is that it is not warrantied or sold directly by Vitamix. Amazon sells it. Vitamix no longer sells blade assemblies. I have a VM0102D from Costco. This blade assembly WILL NOT WORK on that 64oz. low profile pitcher. The gear is too shallow and will grind the base gear and the blade's gear. Call customer service first and they will do a courtesy repair if this is your first "infraction." (I had a metal spoon remain in my smoothie mix.) If Vitamix customer service doesn't give the answer you like, by all means search for another method. 3Genuine replacement; the only way to go. My VitaMix 5200 was out of warranty by a couple of months (of course!) when it started growling whenever I tried to use it. My blender is relatively lightly used, and this should not have occurred. I knew it was the blade assembly because the machine operated silently when I turned it on without a container and with my dry-blade container.Anyway, I ordered this genuine replacement part, it was delivered the next day, and, once more all is running smoothly. I already owned the wrench for attaching the assembly, and I recommend using one. 5Not supported or warranted by Vitamix If there was a way to give something no stars, this would be one of those times. I'm usually pretty forgiving, but this time I feel utterly ripped off.I've had this blade assembly a little over a year now and it barely moves freely anymore. I can barely move it using my hand. I thought my motor was burning up because I could smell a burning smell, but after inspection of the motor, turns out it's the blade assembly. So I call up Vitamix about replacing this part since I paid $64, I figured there's got to be some kind of customer service protocol to take care of these kinds of problems. You know, like, "oh I'm sorry this stopped working for you. We'll send you out a new one in a week." Nope. The CS agent told me they don't even recommend that you buy this part. Their recommendation is to buy a complete jar and not this individual part. WHY DO YOU EVEN LIST IT ON AMAZON?! Please don't confuse us loyal Vitamix customers into repairing our machines when you don't intend to provide support. I'm tempted to try my luck with BlendTec. 1
