Spent the extra Frappucino on this set, and cry once, rather than twice ;)Just got this in the post and did my first job with it, as I'm going to the range soon and needed this set to install some stuff stat...First off, after using several of the punches, I'm of the opinion you're better off getting this slightly more expensive set, than a discount, vinyl-rolled, Harbor-Freight-quality one of dubious / indifferent quality. There's Harbor Freight Chinesium, and there's Apple-grade Guangdong miracle tech. This isn't some Starrett-killer, but it isn't dishonest 'gotcha' garbage of the stereotype either. I like it -- the punches are straight and true (twirled them all in my fingers), the case is compact & holds the tools properly, they're all well-marked with sizes mirroring the ones on the case... and the hammer is knurled nicely and feels well-weighted. My P320 sights and Glock chassis pins approve. There are any number of Chinesium listings on Amazon. If you're not a gunsmith and have to use your tools to the pleasure and payment of a discerning clientele... do yourself a favor, and skip the 'nesium and grab this set. It's even $5 cheaper here than most firearm's related sites with Prime shipping (for once). :D 4Overall for the price its a great kitPretty pleased with the brass punches, changed out sights on a S&W Shield with these and they worked. Leaves a few brass marks that rub off with alcohol. Did get some very minor deformation on the ends, I used the biggest 2 punches. Though that's the whole idea.. You have to use a softer metal in order not to mar up whatever it is your working on. I did beat them pretty hard to get the factory sights off. You can sand / grind them back down a little and they will be perfect again. The hammer is decent, smaller then I imagined but it works for the delicate jobs. Delrin side gets chewed up pretty easy, but I'm sure that is typical. 4Seems like a fine addition to my workshopI needed a punch for work on my Sig P320C and selected this one because of other positive reviews and what appeared to be a good selection of sizes and composition. I am well satisfied. Remember... Brass is soft. It is designed to deform before the slightly harder metal pins or other parts (like sights) so that it doesn't mar them. Use them gently and lubricate the part when possible. 5Does what it's designed to doSo I got this primarily to use on my firearms but have also used it on trying to punch out a rusty cotter pin out of a ball joint. I have not had any problems with the punches I've used bending... maybe because I know how much force I need to use? Gents, don't bash them hard.. They are meant to take taps from the provided hammer not hard. Blows. If you're having problems trying to push something out, squirt some penetrating oil. The brass, especially, is not meant to take heavy hits. It's purpose is to give so you don't end up marring what you're punching. All in all, it's a good set for a good price. 5I've used this kit to build several AR-15 lowers and the brass makes it so much easier to do without so easily scratching your nThis hammer and punch set is a must have for gunsmithing. All sizes needed for various tasks in gunsmitting are included in brass, and if you have a need for something a little tougher there is the steel punches included to get those jobs done. The included hammer is very handy with it's double sides. The nylon side is for essentially guaranteed damage avoidance. The brass side is non-maring to most surfaces but has the hardness needed for strikings smaller surfaces or sharp edges that the nylon may take damage from. I've used this kit to build several AR-15 lowers and the brass makes it so much easier to do without so easily scratching your new gun's frame. The carrying case is built well and has places to securely hold the various pieces included in the kit, although I do find that the latches are a bit tough to open - this is both good and bad. Good because it securely keeps the tools inside and bad because it sometimes takes a pry tool to open. 5high quality tooling and a great caseThis is one of three punch sets I keep on my gun workbench. The tools are high quality and have just the right weight to them. The punches are tooled very well, and I've never had an issue with them. The plastic case is very sturdy (unlike some of my other kits) and therefore I actually keep the punches and hammer in the case, as opposed to moving them into a catch all drawer. I'm an amateur smith and appreciate products which make life easier - this is one such product. 5Hammer broke on my first tap. What a piece of junk. The first time I used it, the polymer side of the hammer broke off. And I wasn t even using that side, I was using the brass side. 1Nice portable setDecent set for the money, the hammer is a little undersized but I guess it has to be in order to fit in the case. I shattered the nylon face through my own incompetence because I was using it to wail on a wrench trying to break a bolt loose. I tried to find a replacement face but could not find one on Amazon small enough. I called Wheeler and they sent me an entire new hammer no charge. Only issue is that the hammer they sent me is the not the one from the set to it is too large to fit in the case, but hey, its free. Great customer service! 5Two-faced hammer and punchesNice to have all these punches and two-faced hammer all in one place and in a fitted case. The case even has a few empty recess to place small parts in.5Works. Just be careful how you use it.I built three AR lowers with this kit so far and the punches have already bent. So I have to be careful and keep turning the punch so it bends the opposite way where possible, or I try to bend the punch straight by hand. Reading reviews a see lots of different brand punches on Amazon have the same issue. I guess nothing but crap is being sold these days. Anyway, I built three AR lowers without issue and will be building more with this kit. Just be careful with the angle of the punch and hammer. Keep things straight up and down, not sideways or at an angle as that will produce a bent punch. YMMV.If I lost this set I would buy it again. The price is good. If I need to replace single punches then I would look to try other brands, but I bet they are just the same stuff. 3A Good Value for a Starter Set - But Know Its LimitationsI've started to do basic work on my firearms at home and quickly ran into cases where I needed the right type of punch to avoid doing damage. So far, I've used this set to detail-strip my Zastava M57 (Tokarev) and punch out stubborn pins on sporting rifles, as well as doing some work on an MP5 clone. You get a lot of different sizes for your money, as well as a non-marring hammer, which I found invaluable when reinstalling the extractor pin in the M57 slide. You also get a couple polymer punches which are just the right size for larger takedown pins, as on the MP5 and AR-pattern rifles. However, the smaller punches are steel - probably necessary for strength, but do be aware that they can scratch or mar in a way the brass and polymer pins won't. Most frustratingly, the 1/16th inch punch is incredibly fragile - I bent two of them with very gentle and perfectly-aligned taps, and was so surprised at how little strength they had that I exchanged the item. The second set arrived with one of the 1/16th punches already bent - probably a set someone else had returned once! With the sole exception of the 1/16th punch, I'd strongly recommend picking this up if you have a couple firearms and are looking to do anything beyond everyday field stripping. It's an ideal starter kit and the price is right. 4Great kit for the price!Nice little kit. If all you're doing is the occasional maintenance/upgrades to your guns, save some cash and pick this kit up. I've used mine several times already and have zero complaints whatsoever. So long as you use the right punch for the job (polymer, brass, steel), you'll be fine. Great kit for cheap. Definitely recommend it....5
