Fantastic sandwich knife / spreader - Great size, effectiveness, easy handling Since originally buying one at TJ Maxx, I wanted to have one more on hand and ordered it on Amazon. I LOVE this sandwich knife. This has got to be the best size and feel of any spreader / knife I have used. Far better than a regular knife at scooping PB&J, or mayo... carries much more, and can spread across the bread slice much quicker and more effectively than a standard knife, or a tiny butter spreader. Very useful, wonderful size. 5Great For Peanut Butter Sandwhiches! I would not make peanut butter sandwiches again if it wasn't for this knife. It spreads the peanut butter more precise than any butter knife can and makes it last longer as a result. This knife also looks amazing in design and is very comfortable to handle. 5Love this knife Fantastic! So, it's a little knife and it's 4.99, this thing isn't life changing. But, it is hefty and extremely solid for the price. It fits comfortably in my hand and the cutting side is just sharp enough to get through a sandwich without my worrying that my kids will lop off a finger in the process. Let's be clear, you could cut yourself, but it is primarily made for spreading and the serrated cutting side will get you through some bread and deli meat but that's where it ends (and that's where I want it to end). The spatula is just right for everything from mayo to peanut butter - wide enough to scoop up and spread a reasonable dollop, narrow enough to fit in the jar easily. My mother always had spreaders in the house. I made due with table knives and had purchased this as part of a gag gift to put in a Fluffernutter kit I was making for my daughter for Christmas since we normally don't keep fluff in the house. Now, I'm going to buy another one as this one makes it into every dishwasher rotation. I feel like I got far more than anticipated for $5. 5Why didn't I get one of these sooner? Wow, this is one of those handy little kitchen tools you'll wonder how you ever lived without! Speeds up sandwich prep time considerably, especially if you've got kids who just have to have the crusts cut off their sandwiches. It gets daily use around here, and barely makes it into the dishwasher before someone's looking for it. The ergonomic design feels good in the hand and really spreads PB & J evenly, as well as helping to get the last bit out of the jar. 5Disappointed Around our house we make lots of toast and sandwiches every day - so having a good supply of spreaders is pretty dang important. A few weeks ago we purchased this one - and the OXO Good Grips one (feel free to check out my review there as well). Long story short - this blade on this thing rusted and discolored badly the first time we put it through the dishwasher. It's been through the dishwasher now probably 15 or 20 times and the blade is very discolored and continues to rust. Given the cost and the brand name involved here I expected much more - I mean come on - what would a more premium stainless steel material have really added to the manufacturing cost here - 25 cents?...I should meantion that the length, grip and overall balance is great - and it feels as if the blade is full tang - my primary gripe is the metal rusting and discoloring 3Fits the hand so nicely. Spreads and cuts wonderfully I just adore this spreader! Fits the hand so nicely. Spreads and cuts wonderfully. Could not be happier and intend to purchase several more as gifts. I'm already a huge fan of Zyliss products, even though they discontinued making my favorite corkscrew. Delighted though, that the one made by "Cuisinox" (and available on Amazon!) is a perfect match to the previously available one made by "Zyliss". 53 Sandwich Spreaders, reviewed. I purchased 3 different "Spreaders" for this, my review. These included the above pictured "Zyliss Sandwich Knife", the " OXO Good Grips Stainless 23181 Spreader", and the "Montana knife 7326 Spreader". The wife, children and I, all have been using these 3 spreaders for over 9 months! I now come to the following observations concerning these spreaders: In my opinion, the best spreader, & best value of the 3, is the "Zyliss Sandwich knife". I come to this conclusion because of the following: The "Montana knife" is outright out of contention, because of its short length: at 7.5 inches, it is obviously shorter than the Zyliss' 9.0 inch length, and the "Good Grips' 8.8 inch length. The spreader's length becomes important when removing jellies or other food material from glass jars, or from cans: (Which you Will want to do at some future time!). The "Good Grips" spreader comes in a very close second to the Zyliss product because the "Good Grips" product has twelve 1/4 inch deep "Grooves" at its handle - which prove problematic to easily clean out, should peanut butter, or jellies, etc., get into the narrow grooves. Lastly, the property of the Zyliss Sandwich Knife which we all find advantageous surprised us!...The yellow / orange handle is not only easy to clean, but is also easy to pick-out of a drawer full of eating utensils! - This last property: the bright color of the handle cinches for us, the "Best of the three", and I'm about to order 5 more of them, for our family's use! (I hold no interest, financial or otherwise, in the Zyliss product or Company.) Richard E Tracy, MD 5Look Elsewhere for a Better Knife This is not a sandwich knife. It's too thick and heavy and also too short. It also is NOT double edged where one edge is serated and the other is a smooth, thin edge for spreading (note the difference in the picture). It only has a serated edge, and the steel is too thick to cleanly cut your sandwich. When my husband made a sandwich and left the knife in the sink for 45 minutes before I got to it to clean it, it was already irreversibly stained. In the pictures you can see the black stain on this knife that has been used 3 times and my good knife that's 11 years old. My husband made this purchase, and unfortunately I threw away the package. So now I can't return it. I suppose the other reviewers have never had a really good sandwich knife before. 1Still rusted I make pb&j's for our five kids' lunches almost every day and have a few different brands of sandwich knives/spreaders; and this one is the only one I regret purchasing. I always hand wash and dry immediately, and after only about two months I've noticed rust developing where the blade and handle meet. Never been in the dishwasher, always dried completely with a towel. Disappointed :-(That said, I do use several other zyliss products in the kitchen and love them! Just not this one :-/ 1What could go wrong? Right? Well it's started ... What could go wrong? Right? Well it's started to develop rust spots between the teeth on the serrated edge of the spreader and now the rest of the blade is starting to show spots even though it says stainless steel. 1
